You’d think that if your opponent’s campaign is putting out doctored videos, you’d go out of your way to show you can speak.

It’s been a troubling month of so. Hope he wins obviously

I've heard Fetterman talking extensively and he sounds fine to me. Those people just love lying about anything and everything, and that includes fake videos and completely out of context quotes. He's gotta push back.

Guys...there is a reason his campaign has limited his speeches and has not given the media a chance to really talk to him and ask him questions. It's a problem.

This was a few weeks ago. He only spoke for a few minutes. You can't tell me he sounds fine here.

Yeah pretty much fine - I saw him on a zoom earlier in the year and he had some of those same struggles. Pre-stroke.

But yeah JP, he probably needs to speak to policy a little more. Of course, you and I want to hear that, but the average person just wants the red (blue?) meat. Maybe one of those Good Dog blue-cheese burgers, amirite?

I mean I get it. But this is the thing - if he can't "prove" that he speaks as he did before his stroke does that change things for you? If anything - and their campaign is pretty sharp - I think they're going to adjust as needed depending on which way the wind blows. Maybe their numbers are telling them it's not worth the exposure?

Or maybe at some point they do an about-face, and lean into it. I would do that if I were them, at some point - lean into the overall medical health issue that ties to basically everyone in the state, along with what is starting to border on ableism: ala get some people who've had strokes, are in wheelchairs, have some kind of disability, etc etc, up on stage and speak to whether they're not able to do their jobs just because they've had some kind of medical/health issue of one kind or another.

And then of course lean hard into the Roe, Roe, Roe Your Vote.

Also, can't stress enough how dumb this state is - he's right to keep leaning into the Oz Snake Oil Salesman/"He's Not From Here" routine because it plays huge in the middle of PA.

It would not change anything for me since I am voting for him no matter what. I am just concerned about how it's playing out with people who are on the fence and, judging by a lot of polling now, are moving into Oz's corner. Republicans are just better at exploiting things like this in their favor.

Leaning into it sounds like the smart thing to do but I don't see them doing that yet. Maybe they will as we get closer to the debate to sort of downplay expectations. There's really no playbook for dealing with this so it's tough to criticize the campaign. But the debate is worrisome for me since it sounds like he wasn't a great speaker pre stroke, he did poorly in the primary debate, and Oz has decades of tv experience which no doubt helps him on that stage no matter how shitty a candidate he is.

Really? That's when I've actually seen him debate, speak, etc and I feel like the histrionics and political theater of it all has always been his wheelhouse.

Johnny said the clip I showed is pretty much how he talked before the stroke? I guess I am not as familiar with him speaking as you guys are (as he's barely done it during this campaign). I don't know. It sounds like he has this weird cadence where he's emphasizing the wrong words or something. I can see him being haphazard with his use of exclamation points.

Yeah, that's why I included that YouTube video to our event, it starts where he's introduced and begins talking. He definitely doesn't sound like that.

Alls I know is I think the debate environment benefits him because he can be confrontational, can pivot the discussion, etc. The reason I know he didn't do a Dem primary debate was because of the incident of pulling a shotgun on a Black dude running in his neighborhood. Which is still absolutely an issue for me.

Semi-related: I wish all debates were better, they all come down to the integrity of the moderators. They have to keep the candidates on track to the issue/answer relevant to the question asked, and know when to rope in pivots.

"What is your take on the overturning of Roe v. Wade?"

"Well, when I think of Roe I think of all the inmates that John is going to let out of prison to run rampant in the streets to rape your women and children."

This is a realistic response to me.

Okay I didn't watch that until just now. Yeah, he doesn't sound nearly as sharp at this point. So I take back what I said about not being a good speaker pre stroke. But I don't think this changes my concerns though. It's probably a better reason to lean into the health issues he's dealing with leading up to the debate actually.

Yeah, around the 38, 39 minute mark he does the whole unroll his sleeve and show his zip code tattoo, which he does everywhere so that's tiring but I get why he does it. And I do like the zip code response to the education question though, that's good shit. So, yeah, political showmanship is a big part of his deal.

I think Shapiro should send some money his way since he's Deion'ing it to the endzone. The fucking FOP is endorsing him, I'm astounded by some of the endorsements coming through.

I mean, I know what I heard back in February or whenever. But yeah, leaning into the "Oz is an ableist" thing should help.

Anyway, I just realized this team still has 7 games left. God help us.

Mastriano is actually doing a thing in Philly today.

It's like he's trying to lose. So weird how the only time you see him is in a Shapiro ad and literally no where else.

But seriously, though, this guy is a terrible candidate. And I think it's his absolute atrociousness makes Oz look normal, which is just insane. This is the general playbook of the GOP though - sooo much nihilism & fear.

To take the Deion analogy further, just get in the damn end zone DeSean.

Like I said, not a huge fan of Shapiro. But thems the breaks right now.

Also, I'd say this is very relevant to all these convos we're having:

Obviously they know they can't take the Senate without beating him.

Honestly, everyone's got to do a canvass to get out the vote.

JT joined the catchers 20/20/20 club (no idea who else has done this) with his 20th stolen base (and zero times caught stealing). 21 homers, 20 SB and 27 runners caught stealing(!). It's gotta be up there with Jimmy's 4x20 2007, right?

Phills need to sweep the Nats. I didn't even know they were playing the Astros to end the season. Milwaukee looks like they have an easier schedule finishing with the Marlins I think.

It's underrated how big that comeback from the Marlins was, it basically changed everything.

Gotta gut this out and then hopefully the Pads can fall back and Mets fall into the wildcard. I don't care if the Mets have owned us this year, I'd very much rather play them in this series.
