    Good article, thanks!

This kind of got my dander up (bold part):
"Researchers who dive into it will have to surmount obstacles like its low profile and slow pace, and a political environment where the word “climate” is enough to derail a funding conversation."

A good article that talks about the recent record disaster hurricanes and now wildfires that are just a tip of our future.

If they're right (and I suspect they are) and things are going to get worse than the "new normal", Mother Nature is going to kick out collective asses.

Though not exactly what you would call a "Christmas movie" (it just happened to be the day we had to time to watch our latest Netflix DVD arrival) this evening we watched an excellent documentary called "Merchants of Doubt".  It's from 2015 so I'm surprised it had come to my attention before this but what a great documentary!   The film ties together disinformation that has pummeled the American populous from the 70 and 80's debates about whether or not cigarette smoking is bad for one's health, to the asbestos scandal to the more recent debate on climate science/ global warming.  The surprise here is that a very conservative politician, former U.S. Representative of South Carolina Bob Inglis, gives one of the most clear, logical and passionate supportive viewpoints for taking action to curb global warming.

    Definitely worth checking out!

A couple of interesting reads.  I read an article about a year ago that this would be happening around 2025 based on the position of the magnetic poles of the sun...if I am remembering correctly.

I don't think they are trying to fool anyone.  There is some science behind this and some modeling that goes back thousands of years and matches up with similar times during the earths history.  I know it's not 100% guaranteed it's going to happen but it is interesting.  It just makes me realize how small we are when it comes to the earth and the universe as a whole.  We have to treat nature with respect or she will shake us off like a bad case of fleas....like George Carlin used to say.

They are trying to fool people, and you are buying it and selling it on.
This has been making the rounds in the climate denier circles.

It's been pissing me off, and this is why.
The same people who think climate science is junk and distrust it are perfectly willing to buy this bit of science because it confirms their bias.  Ocean floor samples, groovy.

Yes!  And I'm sorry to keep harping on this but in "Merchants of Doubt" some of the biggest names in climate denial basically admit they tell lies and do indeed try to fool people.  It's fucking unbelievable.

Bob Inglis is one of the heroes of this film for me.  Inglis describes himself as a hard line conservative, Christian and Republican.  He thought global warming was a crock until he was put on a climate committee.  Once he saw the data and the facts, he did a 180 on climate.  He had been elected several times but when he bravely stood up and voiced his opinion, it cost him his seat as a representative.  An amazing fellow.

Sure, but that's not what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about my FB friend who trusts that there is going to be cooling because of a few data points of temperatures recorded on Mars, but doesn't trust the thousands upon thousands of data points recorded here on Earth.
The folks who don't trust science until it agrees with them are just irritating.

Is it just me or does the line "there is some science behind this" prove that you actually lack enough understanding of the science to tell if it is fake?
Damn, this is a rude group of people.  I never said I didn't believe in climate change or that what the majority of the replies on here said were incorrect.  Yes, I have plenty of understanding of the science behind these articles and I have read a lot of other science articles on the topic because I think it is interesting.  I actually found it interesting that this was just now being discussed in mainstream media which is why I brought it up here.  Now before anyone jumps all over me I will say it's the first time I have seen it discussed in mainstream media...I am not part of some anti-climate change circle so I haven't seen it discussed like was mentioned before.
The cooling down of the earth and models done over the past few years has shown there is a correlation between this occurring and the magnetic poles or waves of the sun.  There is a chance...a chance..that this could occur again in the next 10 years or so.  Does this mean that climate change doesn't exist and that we don't need to do anything and everything we can do to clean up our act and be more responsible for future generations...fuck no!  And by simply dismissing this you are doing the same thing that people on here complain about by simply dismissing this and  picking and choosing the science you want to believe in order to support your argument.  I don't see this information or opinion as anti-climate change propaganda.  To me it's another example of climate change!
Anyway..I'm done.  This is why i quit the Moving Train quite a few years back.  If you have a different opinion or simply try to add something to the argument people assume you are an idiot and refuse to have an open mind.

Sorry if these responses here are harsh MakingWaves.  Most of us on AMT could do better that way.

I'm not going to try to wow you with climate science prowess or try to make you think I'm a scientific genius (I'm not)- I just spend a lot of time reading widely on the topic and do my best to disseminate the information I find best researched and most widely accepted by the scientific community.  Some excellent sources for climate science information include realclimate.org. NASA's climate change site, and NOAA.    Yes, there are sites that will refute what climate scientist are telling us but I think it makes sense to go with those who really do this for a living.  The vast majority of published scientist agreed that the planet is warming and not likely to cool.  What they are hoping for is to minimize the damage.  Few if any believe it will turn out well, they just hope it won't be a nightmare.
