And so that some person, irrationally scared and motivated by fear while walking towards a group of black kids on the same side of the street, decides to shoot?

is it really an irrational fear when the percentages are so high for young black male committing crimes? not saying they should open fire but totally understand being very wary in these type of situations.

You speak of percentages... so let's consider them: the percentage of black youths who are committing crimes is miniscule. Most black youths are just youths- dreaming of some kind of future, but worried for what might await them.

Where the heck do you live?? Those "Percentages" you are talking about are overwhelming in Chicago.

in that case the attacker had better knock out his tough guy, gun totter victim or he may end up dead from a well placed shot to his head...and that would just break my heart.......

Ahmen Godfather.... I deal with violent crime victims all the time with my job and can honestly say that the definition of a bleeding heart Liberal is someone who has never been the victim of a violent crime.

Yeah I do too. I've yet to meet one that suddenly switches political philosophies after they've been attacked or injured.

With all due respect, that was spoken like someone with no appreciation for what it's like to be a victim.

So... you are saying that a high percentage of the black youth sector are committing violent crimes?

When you say 'overwhelming'... what exactly do you mean?

I do not think a high percentage of black youths are playing the KO game. The media has managed to sensationalize this game while vilifying black youths and many whites- eager to believe- have bought in.

When we hear of (among many similar stories) white guys dragging a black man in chains behind their pick up truck until he essentially disintegrated, did the media paint a picture that white people were commencing their lynching methods and that black people should be particularly wary of any white people advancing towards them on a street?

And call me a bleeding heart liberal if you wish (in your last post you made some reference to some 'head-up-their-ass-weaklings-reluctant-to-deal-with-crime'), but go over to the death penalty thread to see what I think of violent crime and how we should deal with our worst offenders.

It just dawned on my that what happened to me last night (see AET) might fit under the category of this thread. Very disturbing.

Exactly! And I thinks it's worth mentioning that people like this come in all shapes and colors. And they probably got it from someone when they were kids and I feel badly about that but right now I'm just trying to keep my head together.

Well after going over to AET and have a read. And I do not pretend to be politically correct anytime, anywhere. In a clean way so I don't get banned. You have to know when to call a spade a spade.

I was angry too and as much as it reads as support... I'm not sure about this comment, man. Maybe edit?

These punks need to be dealt with severely. The cop who is working on my case (well, was- I don't think they'll catch the punk) said he wished it had happened to him because there would be one less punk on the street. That's pretty severe and rehabilitating is always preferable to killing but on the other hand, like the article says, people are dying as a result of this "game". This is truly one of the worst examples of depravity in a society in the throes of decline.

It is pretty sick, and I am not trying to go off on a tangent but that is one of the reasons why I prefer to be armed.

Hope your recovery is going well.

You seem like a very conscientious person who likely is very gun-safety knowledgeable and assuming that's true, I would not try to persuade you from being armed (though I would prefer no one be armed, if that makes sense). Unfortunately, the idea of the average person being armed give me cause to be very wary. I'm think of this George Carlin line: “Just think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize half of them are even stupider!”* and then picturing them being armed. Yikes!

I'm doing well these days. Appreciate your kind thoughts. Thanks, unsung.

    * but not here, of course! :-)

Yet again - and again and again - what the FUCK happened (or did not but should have, such as maybe decent parenting) to these kids to create such a lack of compassion, to do this for entertainment?

    Fifteen years old.

In a perfect world we would not have to be, unfortunately reality is much different. Trust me, I genuinely hope I never have to use it.
