I'm glad that Leatherman was left off, I'd rather have a 4th LP of Lady Gaga added in than to have that stupid song on there.agree

Im sorry, but i don't consider Lost Dogs a studio album. I hate saying this cause I'll probably piss a lot of people off but I consider it to be a compilation album. It's a collection of b-sides, rarities, and other unreleased songs right? Usually a collection of songs over a bands career is considered a compilation, not a studio album...0

Dear God OP!! Have you never heard the greatness that is Yield??????Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...0

Well, I don't even consider it a studio album, so I'd have to say no. Granted, they are songs recorded in studios, but to me a true studio album is a batch of songs from a specific time, recorded at the same sessions, released with a specific track order - not a bunch of outtakes and previously released b-sides that aren't even in chronological order (though I'm sure they did put thought into the sequencing of LD).
I've probably only listened to it as "Lost Dogs" a few times - what I've done is create playlists of each studio album, and then at the end I tack on the b-sides and then the outtakes, and listen to it in that form. I just like it better that way than any other.
So for example, when I listen to Riot Act it's:
(the full album)
Down ("I Am Mine" b-side)
Other Side ("Save You" b-side)
Undone (outtake)
4/20/02
(and I even tack on Eddie's solo version of "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" at the end, since it also came out in '02 and I think was played a fair amount on the Riot Act tour).0 -

Agreed. I do not consider LD a studio album.
There is not a song on LD that I don't root for. I love them all - thoroughly entertained!
That being said - what makes a bad song? The actual lyrics? The actual music?Oh please let it rain today.

What makes a bad song? Go ask The Script. All my favourite singers have stolen all of my best lines.0

It's technically not an album like Ten or Vitalogy so it's difficult to compare. Each album has a certain feel to it and Lost Dogs just mashes it all together. I really enjoy Lost Dogs, but I'd call myself crazy if I ever thought of putting it ahead of Vitalogy or Yield.
It would be kind of like calling a bands 'greatest hits' their best album.
A-Hey, man, what's your favourite Pearl Jam album?
B-Without a doubt, Rearview Mirror.
A-Oh, great song. I love Vs, too!
B-No, bro, Rearview Mirror is my favourite album.
A-That doesn't make sense... it's a greatest hits.
B-Don't tell me my business; you're not my dad.
A-Okay, but I'm just saying that a greatest hits is a mix of every album. It doesn't really count.
B-Blow me. I do what I want.
A-Alright then, this conversation turned real quick.
B-Whatever. Tickets for the upcoming shows are going on sale tomorrow morning so I have to go home, sit at my computer, and constantly click 'refresh' so I can get as many tickets as possible. Seeing Pearl Jam once a tour isn't enough.
A-Don't you think it's a little ridiculous that you're hoarding so many tickets? How can you afford that?
B-I'm skipping on child support and not eating. Oh, I need to by this never Sevens thing they just released. I have no idea what it is, but I need to have it.
A-What does it cost?
B-Doesn't matter. I need it.0 -

Maybe if it didn't include worse versions of so many amazing songs it could be a contender.

Drifting

BR&Y

None of the versions on LD are as good as the originals.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"0 -

Lest we forget the re-worked Footsteps too.
Keep the harmonica for concerts...leave Footsteps alone. There was NO need to add it to the studio recording. None.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"

i agree with all of that, Footsteps/Wash/Drifting should have been left alone. I never listen to those versions, i want the originals.
The lack of any kind of cohesion definitely ruins it for me. I honestly was shocked on release that they didn't try to make things mesh a little more. If they re-recorded vocals, why couldn't they take 5 minutes to get a mood and flow to the tracklist.
Plenty of great songs, so i'm thankful they put it out. Fatal, HTI, Strangest, Down, All Night, Sad, Otherside. These are the highlights for me, by far. Leatherman should have been on there, especially considering Leavin Here or YL is. Dead Man is great, but definitely sort of a downer, so i don't listen to it much. Some of 'em, like Hitch/Education/Undone i find kind of ....blah. I love Gremmie, that can stay. Hate Bee Girl. Hate Sweet Lew, far more than anything else i've ever heard by this band (this coming from a PJ fan who loves all the interludes and Stupid Mop on Vitalogy)
Studio album? Eh...maybe/sorta. Best?NO.

Leatherman was an odd omission.
Last Kiss should not have been on there. But that being said, and since it is a cover (as well as Leaving Here), then where the hell is Sonic Reducer and I've Got A Feeling?!?
And leaving off Angel was just a slap in the face to Dave A.
And another song they re-worked that should have been left alone: Dirty Frank.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
