Official Toronto Night One Kicked Ass Thread

Wow. Totally speechless. Got some great conversations between Eddie and the audience, FOURTH ROW CENTER SEATS COURTESY OF TEN CLUB, and the acoustics only Massey Hall can offer. About two and a half hours long.
EDIT: I apologize for my lack of knowledge of Neil Young's catalogue - the song I had previously stated was a new song was indeed Long May You Run by Neil.
If anyone can remember what came after Sometimes, please help - I'll update this and try and eventually have a complete setlist up here.
Songs I can remember off-hand in no particular order:
Show started with Liam singing Elderly Woman
1. Walking the Cow
2. Trouble
3. Sometimes
Drifting
Believe You Me/Wishlist
Long May You Run
Trouble
I Am Mine
Dead Man
Man of the Hour
Setting Forth
Guaranteed
No Ceiling
Far Behind
Rise
Goodbye
Broken Hearted
Here's to the State
No More
Hide Your Love Away
Porch
Last Kiss
The Seeker
Long May You Run
Picture in a Frame
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town
Society with Liam
Parting Ways with Liam
Hard Sun with Liam
Arc (GREAT loops)
Quite hilarious conversations:
"Will you play at my wedding?" "Truthfully, I'm surprised you're getting married"
"Play without the speakers!" "Why don't I play without the speakers, you can leave, and if it's loud enough you can come back in"
A whole story about peeing behind Massey Hall
Another story about a one-legged bicycle rider

Liam was outstanding too.
Too bad aboout the wankers sitting behind me who talked (damn near yelled) at the top of their voices through his entire set. Very respectful. Wankers. Why do they always sit near me?
And then "oh this is a Neil Young tune man" as Ed starts into Long May You Run. So the guy behind me tries to sing through the whole song, and, you guessed it, he didn't know the words, and couldnt carry a tune. Thanks man, you really added to my experience.
Why can't people just shut up and let the musicians perform? Scream, yell, whatever in between tunes, but why do you have to talk and try to sing along? Oh yeah, dude, if you read this, the harmonies you sang during Setting Forth were really crazy man - I've never heard anything so dissonent (dude, that's different from Dissident, but kinda similar).
wankers.
I wave to all my Friends... Yeah!
The Elgin theatre/pissing on Massey Hall story and the one legged bike rider.
Normally, the guys/girls that yell things out make me mad, but tonight there were a few funny lines.
Eddie said that we (meaning the crowd) were great singers, and maybe it was because of the type of fans his band attracts - and someone yelled 'What's the name of your band?'
Eddie replied 'Stone Temple Pilots.'
I don't think my heart could take more love than he gave us in Santa Cruz. And besides, he wrote us a custom love song to "our" town instead of going surfing. Didn't get that in Newark..I don't care HOW nice their venue is.
<just kidding, Jersey..don't come track me down>
Late at night I hear the trees, they're singing with the dead...overhead...”
This was "Long May Your Run", a Neil Young tune from the early 70's that, I think, was originally recorded by The Stills/Young Band (I think).
Couldnt agree more. Some "fans" have no respect.
Liam covered Old Man too. Fucking rock.
And I fought through the crowd
Guess I got a little too excited
When I thought you were around
parting ways, seeker, long may you run were amazing surprises.
I thought he played in the Mike McCready Band

Yeah of course.
I loved the storytelling aspect almost as much as the music. I think he might have talked more if people would just STFU.
I was going to argue and say it still didn't beat some of the west coast setlists but looking at it again, yeah it does. It justkeeps going and going. Damn, if he played any longer he would have had to take everyone out to breakfast. He'd do that too
Late at night I hear the trees, they're singing with the dead...overhead...”
Yep it's a Neil Young song and it's about his car...
Parting Ways...yeah, that would do me in right there... You lucky effers!
now excuse while i devour my chicken shwarma! so good.

And one of my favorite Neil Young (written by Neil) songs.
And it was about an old Buick Neil had that was pretty much driven til the wheels fell off.
It is also a metaphor for old friends and past memories.
A great... GREAT song.
...
Although, in my book it got eclipsed by 'Thrasher'.
Hail, Hail!!!
Late at night I hear the trees, they're singing with the dead...overhead...”
I liked the Elgin/Eljin banter -when he pointed backstage 'Bring me the head of whoever told me it was Eljin.'
He said something like that's how it's pronounced in America. Then he corrected himself saying the Americans know how to pronounce it correctly they just choose not to because they're a superpower that can do whatever the F@#% they want.
After the 'Into the Wild' screening at the Toronto Film Festivalat the adjacent Elgin Theatre, Eddie was standing out back and had to go the bathroom. He couldn't push back through the crowd so he found a clear spot in the alley.
Just as he was about to go, he looked up and saw that the building was Massey Hall, so he changed his mind. 'You can't piss on Massey Hall.'
The Massey Hall pissing story went something like:
The premiere of Into the Wild was at the Elgin (Elgin/Eljin - haha) theatre during the Toronto Film festival. And Sean and Eddie and others got quite wasted and high and went into the back alley to get into the cars. While waiting for the cars, Eddie needed to relieve himself. So he stumbled about and was about to piss on a building at the side of a road. He then looked up and realised it was Massey Hall - "wait a second, I cant piss on Massey Hall". So he went and pissed in some side alley. There some posh couple saw him pissing, and simply said "scumbag". hahaha
Late at night I hear the trees, they're singing with the dead...overhead...”
In case Ed tries to pee on you? That goes beyond fanaticism!
and the part about the posh couple calling him a scumbag was priceless.
still - the most memorable line of the night (from the crowd)
....after the one legged biker story.....some guy yells out
"how the hell was he riding a bike".

AND HE FUCKING PLAYED IT!!!
I was 2nd row center, and before the show started my buddy asked me if he ever takes requests and I told him that it could happen. If the time was right.
I said to him at that point that if we request anything it has to be Believe you me. My buddy totally agreed and that was the plan.
He then told me to let him know when that time was right and he will yell it out.
Not being a fan [downright hate] all the yellers and screamer we were both in agreement that if the time was right, we try for it once and thats it.
I was just about to say to my friend 'Ok now' and Ed started into porch, so I knew that was end of the 1st set, yet not to worry the cool shit usually wont happen until the 1st encore.
So Eddie walks on stage for the 1st encore, and after all the applause is over, I tell my friend 'Ok now".
He stands up and yells "Believe You Me" and then sits down.
Eddie not even flitching, couldnt even tell if he heard, noticed or cared, continued to get settled.
And BAM that umistakable first string is hit, and me and my buddy, litterally shreak like little girls.
Everyone around us is looking at us like 'these kids forgot to takes their meds"
It was UNBELIEVABLE!!
Im on cloud nine!
