Great...someone else who did not read the Eddie interview a couple of weeks ago, and who did not read/listen to the quote from the other night, and yet thinks that their $.02 matters. At least read and digest information before you go spouting off (incorrectly) about it.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"

Our own Government has killed more civilians than all of the US population. When they take are only means of self defense from them, there is no telling what they will do next.

I've said it before -- in this thread -- and I'll say it again. My husband and I both come from gun-friendly cultures -- hunting, target practice, etc. We have no interest in taking away everyone's guns. But Newtown was the last straw for us. Something needs to change -- I don't know what, but something needs to change. Is it laws regarding gun purchase? Is it the way our society deals with mental health issues? Maybe it's both.
There's nothing unreasonable about Ed's call for a dialogue, even though such an expectation seems unrealistic in an increasingly shrill, polarized society.
So, I don't have a solution, but I'm going to keep trying to be part of a civil dialogue on the matter. Why? This is why: There still is a middle. The extreme viewpoints are loudest and get the most attention, but during the last election cycle I realized, in talking to my friends, that the middle's still out there. There still are a lot of reasonable, well-intentioned people who would like to work together to find solutions to any number of problems facing this country. We get shouted down all the time, but we're still here. We're increasingly dispirited, but we're still here. And we're sick of the screaming. All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.0 -

This thread is EXACTLY what Ed's talking about in Yellow Moon when he says "The colors turn gray/the black and white fades."
People ridiculously see the gun issue as black and white: "they should take away all the guns/they want to take away all the guns" until a family is affected by gun violence. The reality of the world is not black or white, and I've never heard Ed or anyone reasonable say they want to take away all the guns. I have hunter/gun advocate friends and family and they seem to understand that they can still protect their families and bring down large game without using semi-automatic machine guns and exploding bullets. So who are these people that start every discussion about smart gun control with "THEY WANT TO TAKE DOWN THE 2ND AMENDMENT!!!"?

Therein lies the problem. See, you actually know what you are talking about because you (I assume) read the article(s) and comprehended what Eddie said.
I had an online PJ buddy of mine declare on Facebook the other day that he heard on the radio about an article where Eddie was anti-gun, and then my friend went on to say that he is sick of Eddie being in bed with Obama, etc etc. So I asked him "did you actually read the article they were talking about?". He responded "no". People were up in arms, calling into the radio station saying how Eddie was a sellout and should keep his mouth shut and they are never going to listen to PJ again (a la John Lennon's "bigger than Jesus" quote). So I told my buddy to actually read the freaking article, because that is not at ALL what the article said.
i don't know what irks me more: people who read the article and completely take every quote out of context and misunderstand the whole thing, or those who form an opinion of it based on what radio personalities and idiots like Alex Jones and the oh-so-lovely morons over at infowars.com are saying about it. I mean, being a fan of this band for so long, wouldn't you think to yourself "Wait a minute...something about what these guys are saying about Eddie doesn't sound 100% right. Let me go check for myself." If I had a dollar for every time Eddie was misquoted, and then the misquote went on to piss people off and turn people away from the band and its music...
People - you don't have to agree with Eddie on everything. I don't. But for the love of god at least know what you are arguing about.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"

You right, personally I don't think there is grey area in this issue. I believe your way off base. For the past 30 years or more I can remember we been fed a lot of BS. Whatever freedoms we have now, I say keep. The 2nd Amendment never mentions hunting. All Democracies fail and we need to protect ourselves from the government. That is why our country's founders wrote this bill of right.0 -

Laws with the best intentions, are not followed by law breakers.Post edited by jbalicki10 on0 -
I guess what I dont understand is since Ed isnt a politician and has no say whatsoever in whether you can have a gun or not, who cares what he thinks about it? I don't see why it matters. If you like owning a gun Ed can't take it from you, if you are against guns Ed can't do a thing about that either. I guess you can argue that his stature as a musician gives his opinons some extra weight? But I'm not sure I agree with that, I doubt anything Ed has ever said has changed anyone's minds on guns one way or another, so who cares what he says about it? I dont see why the people at infowars feel so threatened by it, kind of silly. Now if Obama made a speech like that I could at least understand their concern since he actually has the power to do something about it. But a whole article about something Ed said? Who cares? Pretty paranoid if you ask me.0

Ah, the old "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" stance.
So you advocate....doing nothing at all. Am I right?
I.e. f*** the victims of these horrendous crimes. "The man" (aka "they") is trying to take away my guns and my rights, thus I don't want anything at all to ever change. It's my right, and I don't want to be inconvenienced with something as silly as a stricter background check or a mental health evaluation.
The fact that guns can be bought illegally has NO bearing on what should be done to the LEGAL aspect and process of gun ownership.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"

I think Eddie said during his Pirate Radio Days:
"We have People acting like Poiticians, Politicians acting like Rock Stars, and Rock Stars acting like, uhmm Rock Stars"0 -

Not sure where you live at but there are laws in my state about purchasing and obtaining firearms which I fully support. No I don't think we need to change the laws. We need to focus on the WHY, not the What. I believe Mental health is the big issue. Crime has gone statistically for 20 years. I remember in a crimonolgy class that there is actually a 20 years cycle of this. I guess we are in a upswing.0 -
What he said in Hartford was spot on. It was a really emotional night. He has every right to say whatever he wants. I love it. Never afraid to speak his mind in 20+ years. You have to admire that, no matter what you believe in.0
