I get the concerns, but shouldn't it be someone's own responsibility to go and get themselves some water if they are so dehydrated? To me, this sounds like people would rather be on the verge of passing out rather than losing their precious spot on the rail. Seems kinda silly to me.

    correct

Not correct. It's just not practical with GA to have people leave, come back, etc. - actually creates a worse situation. This is why many venues have started passing water. Outdoor events, too. It's literally pennies to them, and prevents a lot of potential injury, lawsuits, embarrassment, etc. - what's the harm?

This seems to be the norm outside the US, so that's why us non-Americans expect that. But the crowds are different outside the us as well, so there is a greater need for water.

Can't get their head around giving away something for nothing that they can go and pay exorbitant prices for in the same building, even in the name of crowd safety  :corn:
Well I can get my head around it. Obviously people in the US realise they are responsible for themselves and the majority act accordingly.

From my experience if you're on the rail and seriously need to get out, security will pull you over and escort you to the back or an EMT if it's that bad.

It's about personal responsibility. Just flat out stupid to jeopardize your health to keep your spot. Maybe we've just been taught to think for ourselves in the US.

So it's not practical to take care of yourself??

Can we let this thread die? I think all opinions have been thoroughly voiced, and I don't think there will be anyone whose opinions are changed.

yea it was bullshit. I dont think i was on the verge of dehydration but boy was i thirsty. One rail guard said he'd look backstage for water and never did. The other guy told me to go buy concession if i was thirsty. all they care about is making money and not the safety of their customers (unless you're crowd surfing off course lol)

    thanks for the post

Amen. I see the concerns and could even understand this request if this was an outdoor festival, but an arena show? And how does one get so dehydrated standing inside? This is why I prefer reserved seats at this point of my life. I'll pay extra just to get aisle seats to make RR/beer runs even easier on me and folks in my row. Just my 2 cents...

Often in pits in outdoor festivals front security will be provided with water to hand out, or often in a sprayable dispenser (a pump with a thin hose to hose off the crowd right up front). These shows being in indoor, air-conditioned arenas with a relatively small pit that people could leave to get water (albeit tight, still possible to leave to get water) then its not usual to my knowledge to have water on the rail.

If you're on the rail and need to get out and you're trapped, get security to help pull you over to get you out of the front of the pit.

Exactly, the band just needs to go back to all reserved seating for shows in the states and problem solved.
Everyone can come and go as they please, eat and drink as much as they want and there will be no worries
    about dehydration or injury.

To quote Vinnie in My Blue Heaven:

I say they turn the front rail into one long bar. Need water? No problem. Want a twist of lemon in there too?

And all the threads generally asking "what to expect at a GA show" would die as well.

Because it seems many people have never actually been to a GA show. At least it has seemed that way.

I can see it now, let's all revert to being numbered and ushered like sheep following the herd to our numbered seat. Because that's "normal".
