    Hi Guys,

Anyone at the dublin show last night?

anyone know what all the "booing" was about? some people tell me its to do with the keyboard guy that his name is "boon" or something other people say they were booing the keyboard guy cos he was new (unlikely) others say its because Eddie or someone on stage had a flag with a union jack on it, but i didnt see it.

    anyone know the real answer?

    the show rocked BTW!

I made the same mistake. I've thought for months now that the crowd were booing Boom. I wasn't aware that they are shouting "BOOOOOOOM" instead.

He didn't really explain it so much as introduce Boom - and you could barely here his name over the cheering. Also, most people were too far away to tell if Ed was smiling or not.

Here's a (bad quality) clip of it when the guys came out for the first encore:

Yeah, he didn't really explain it. He just said - 'on keyboard Boom Kasper' or whatever after we were all Booooming him. As you say, you could barely hear Ed, so I'm sure most people at the gig left the gig wondering what the booing was about.

I only know through the bootlegs and you have to remember most of the people at that gig will not have bought any of the bootlegs. Perhaps a few from the Euro 2000 tour when they were in HMV & Tower records, but Boom wasn't around then.

Outside of the front pit, I'd say you'd find a few hundred people at most who have bought bootlegs of the Riot Act tour at that gig.
Put the garbage in the garbage can... I can't stress that enough.

I have to admit I thought they were booing aswell. I was right up the front & Eddie said whats all this negativity about & kinda had this shifty look about him as if he was really uncomfortable. Even a friend of mine who is a REALLY hard core fan thought the same for about 2 seconds & was giving out to people for booing, then we copped it! It was just really confusing!

As for having a union jack on stage, c'mon now, give Eddie some credit. It was the tri-colour with "Pearl Jam Loved in America Loved in Ireland" written on it!

    Fantastic gig!

certainly the people i was with were booing. i think the majority of the crowd were maybe doing it for boom, but a porportion of the crowd were pissed off at the setlist by that stge and the fact they werent away of the ridiculous pit measures we were subjected to.

    Yeah, what ridiculous pit measures???

I think anyone who thought the crowd were 'booing' must have thought Ed's reaction to it was a little strange too :D

the 10club/wristbands bollocks that pearl jam adopt. its obscene and unfair. and actually far more dangerous than a non-seperated crowd - it was bedlam in the point the other night, any other time ive been there for gigs its been quite dignified and spacey but with the pit at the front the hall was condensed and squeezed into a dangerous amount of space.

their problem with the setlist i think was because of amount of new material. to be honest i didnt take them up on that argument (though it would have been nice had they not played any new material!) so i cant explore it any further.

uh... i wasnt talking about the room in the 10club pit. i was talking about the lack of room in the rest of the hall because of the division.

stuff like that cut off might work in america where venues are all seating, and theyre sensible for festivals, but for arena's they are ridiculous and are just asking for trouble. and to ask people to spend 50 euro, then be subjected to such security measures (and paddy fucking casey) is nothing short of disgraceful.

Thought all PJ fans knew it. I was booming in Dublin and even after Eddie explained it to those who didn't know Boom, a guy next to me asked why I was booing....

Boom was fucking loving Dublin... at one stage he ducked below his keyboard and was peeking out from underneath while we were all shouting BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM :)
    Man,

I'm a pearljam fan 14 years and didn't get the "boom" thing. I said to my brother who was with me at the concert, "the fans musn't like the keyboard player". It was such a relief to learn his name. lol..

I went away from the concert thinking that pearljam will never play ireland again after being booed like they were (or as it happens - weren't!).

Anyway, what a gig, they still rock my world!

ps were there any Waterford fans there like me?

I was told The Point pretty much always has a pit in the GA since someone died there at a gig and wristbands are given to the people at the front of the queue and so for PJ this was the Ten Club members and then additionally those at the front of the GA queue.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

The Point ALWAYS has the front pit section. If you've been to any gigs there over the past 8 years or so you should know that. Arrive early or you dont get pit. I wasnt in Ten Club but i still got a pit pass... me and about 200 people in the queue behind me.

Why is this thread still going? Haven't people realised by now that there was no booing for any reason?

and axlrose: ridiculous pit measures? Every single gig in the point has that pit. It's for safety. Anyone who was booing that needs there head checked. Same goes for your comment on the setlist. If you didn't like that setlist why would you even bother going in the first place?
