Nothing better than having the physical product in your hands for the first listen. Just my opinion!

Why not listen? Change with the times.

  • Yeah obviously this is how the band wants us to hear things now. It's not like some major label pressured them to stream it or anything.

But everyone seems to be doing it, so you can't blame them for playing the game.

Listened to it three times - on iphone, headphones and stereo system. It is great, definitely a grower not a shower.
Finding something new each time. Bands just don't make cohesive pieces of work like this anymore. Thanks to PJ!

I haven't, though it's not due to a personal embargo. I haven't had the time, and since I don't use an iTunes compatible OS, I'd have to seek out the music through less reputable means.

I've listened to the first 30 seconds of Getaway about 9 times. I've updated iTunes, and tried everything else...to no avail.

    Maybe tonight.

I'm still waiting. I've listened to every PJ release the same way...vinyl, headphones, choice of beverage (except Ten, that was a cassette listen in my buddy's truck). It's getting a little harder nowadays to resist but I'm holding out. Nothing like that first wax spin with fresh ears. I have always listened to the singles though so obviously I've heard MYM and Sirens. Also was at Wrigley so got a preview of Future Days and LB. Like boyo79 said though, there is nothing like opening, holding, the new vinyl smell, looking through the artwork all while jamming brand fucking new Pearl Jam!!
  • I am waiting until the album comes in. I don't my first listen to come from a stream, even if it sounds the same to me. I still like the experience of holding the album art while I listen for the first time.

That is it right there. I don't listen to every new album on 1st listen via cd/vinyl like I used too but when it's Pearl Jam or an act I really love there is only one way to go and that's the old school way. iTunes/Spotify etc is good for finding new music or going back to bands you've not heard for a while - I tried Arctic Monkeys new album this way after not hearing anything since their first album. Loved it and now I'll go buy the cd. But if it's your favourite band you've gotta keep it old school and have the physical product as your first listen of a new album!

The reason I listened to it early on stream was because I thought to myself, "Pearl Jam did this, they wouldn't have done this if they didn't want their fans to hear their new album". So I sat down at my computer and cranked it! And believe me, I feel NO REGRETS! :D

  • Same, I want to KNOW these songs as they will feature heavily on the setlists for this tour.
I'll hear the LP when I get from from the states and do that properly. Until then I'm going to listen to this on repeat

I haven't listened yet but I think I will at some point over the next few days. I would have preferred having CD in hand for the first listen but since I'm going to the first two shows of the tour I want to know what I could be hearing!

Me, although I might cave soon :lol::lol: I normally like to get the physical CD, pop on headphones and listen start to finish (and repeat and repeat) while I go through the liner notes and stuff.

However, if the desire strikes me, I might stream it if I'm home one night this week and can listen to it uninterrupted. I just don't want to rush to listen to it just because it's available :)

I don't really care what the rest of you guys are doing, to each their own. However anyone wants to enjoy it is fine by me.

I have listened to it, but not many times, and I won't listen to it too many times either, I will wait for the CD and vinyl, read the lirycs and feel the grooves...

there are many rock/hard rock songs that are good but will become great live: I wonder not crazy about getaway but probably it will be way better live, I'd love to see Swallowed Whole, Let The Rercods Play, Yellow Moon and Infallible live, these four are my cup of tea at present...
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...

Ive only heard MyM. I'm holding out for the rest when the CD and/or vinyl come screaming into my mailbox.
I think I heard the last three albums in my car for the first time. This one is going to be on my couch, with the volume up.

Since i am seeing them Friday, and have no chance of having the CD by then, I wanted to at least recognize the new songs that get played.

This, plus to me the album was released yesterday. If I waited til next week, I'd be a week behind. I listened to it three times last night and plan to repeat as many times as I can before they blow the roof off Consol. The quality doesn't bother me; but then again, I used to get real excited about seeing an eighth of a naked chick on a scrambled cable feed.

    Waiting til the 15th...

I'll listen once or twice on the stereo w/my hubby (the 15th is our wedding anniversary!) and then probably a couple more times w/headphones on. And then I'll be playing it non-stop at work, in the car, etc. until Philly!!! Woot!!!

Listening to the iTunes stream now - it's flipping amazing.

I will be enjoying this album for years to come so on what format I listen to it first doesn't matter a jot to me!
  • jjflashjjflash Posts: 5,021
Waited til earlier today and then listened to the full stream. Yesterday work was too busy and I wanted to make sure to be able to have a nice, dedicated listen the first time thru. Will give it a few more listens before delving into others' reviews....I want to approach this jewel with pure, untainted ears.

Wow, the unadulterated joy of hearing a new Pearl Jam album. It's like a comet....happens only once in a while and a marvel to behold. Viva la Pearl Jam :D

Some people like to hear an album for the 1st time the old school way....cd/vinyl on, booklet in hand poring over the artwork & lyrics.

Some like to hear an album for the 1st time by any means....leaked copy/streaming on a website.

I like to have the physical product for the 1st listen.

What is the point of waiting? What if I die tomorrow? You've got to enjoy the present while it is there.

I bought the digital download so I think what I will have on 15th October wont be much different by quality, anyway.
