I think quite a lot of them arent acting out of arrogance thinking they need to butt their noses in everybody elses business. Like they were the be all and all of how to operate in the world.

like someone said, countries help out anonymously.

i myself do not believe the usa is the only country that aids other countries that are falling apart. i do believe though that a shit ton of other countries could start helping in all kinds of ways. i also believe i for one would enjoy hearing about countries that help out. i have no television so i rely on the internet, word of mouth & radio news

At least that's what John Kerry wants us to believe. Where's the military support from those countries?

as u understand,to do an air strike at the area will need airbases, fly over countries, get supply and fuel and ground support.,do turn-around at the Aircrafts..you will get all those from allies..mostly from the countries you mention..

My daughter studied International Relations in college. Her dream all through high school and college was to go to the Peace Corp in Africa and help educate the people about AIDS. It is a long process (2 years) to get accepted into the Peace Corp. She was accepted and at 22 years old got on a plane to Zambia, Africa. Guess what? She was not welcomed there!!! A very long story but after 6 months she came home. It took a very long time for her to recover from that. She was very idealistic and wanted to make a difference. Now she is a special education teacher and is making a difference in her own country helping children. She thinks the Peace Corp went about this education to the villages in Zambia the wrong way. Americans did not understand their culture and did not understand that these people did not want to be told what to do.
I feel very sorry for those suffering in Syria, but am not so certain that we are going about it the right way. Why can't we be patient and wait for the UN to handle this situation? Isn't that the purpose of the UN? People in other countries do not like us, because we push our ideals onto them. Meanwhile, we have our own problems in our own country. We did not learn anything from Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. We just keep making the same mistakes. And young lives are being sacrificed as well. Karma will get us in the end.

i think ..this is the first post here in MT Forum that i agree 10000000000%...
in 2 paragraphs you just said it all..this is exactly the situation, this is exactly how the rest of the world thinks
i was talking today with co-workers about the Syria situation,we are close to the area, and in Airforce,so all this will affect our alarm here, and our readiness..
and a guy i work with said.."who the fuck gave the Americans the right to play it the worldpeacemaker,to be the superheros?
they should fuckin stay home and leave Syria deal alone with their problems..and deal with their own problem, like stoping lunitics from killing small childern at their schools.."

and im sorry about what happen to your daughter and her dream didnt come true, cos she pay the price just to be American citizen...

Thanks Dimitris- My daughter has figured out the mistakes the US has made and is happy helping others here in the US> We have made many mistakes as a country. As a US citizen there are things I am proud about. But I do not think we have a right to intervene in everyone's civil wars. The UN needs to handle this. People in our country need to educate themselves about other cultures because we have become a global world, but that does not mean that everyone needs to become a democracy. Democracy does not work for every culture. We need to mind our own business.
I agree with you that we need to figure out why lunatics are busting into our schools and killing our children. I am a teacher and I constantly think about what I would do if someone busted in my classroom with a gun. Sadly, I have had this conversation with my students, they are high school children and we all agree that we would not go down without a fight. It is extremely sad that we have had to devise a plan as to what we would do.
  • Doesn't anyone else think that if the US never helped others then we'd be called lazy and inhumane?

I think for one month all countries should not get any aid from the US, and see what happens. Just sayin...

Some would be okay, but I bet many would suffer.

A little rant here, but I wish the US would have no ties to China. I wish all jobs could come back here, then we can eventually be debt free from them and have nothing to do with them. But the rich need to keep making money and not care for US citizens so that would never happen.

i know what fighter jets are. you're the one in the greek air force, yes/no? you know more about the military than i ever will. with that said, a decent & caring government can deliver medical supplies, food supplies & fresh clean water & other things in nature to these supplies listed without using f-18s & without using f-22s

one could use cargo planes like a c-17 globemaster III

  • You people with your lists that list USA far down the donor list is fine, but this thread isnt just about money and aid giving from european countries compared with USA.

ITS ABOUT RICH COUNTRIES DOING MORE! WE export more than money! We give everything we have to offer!

We CHANGE the world people! We OFFER everything the world has! We have given our inventions for free! We have GIVEN our medical technology, medicine, doctors, etc.

WE have GIVEN our astronauts and space program. We have GIVEN our satellites, We have GIVEN our advancements and progressions in all fields. WE have GIVEN countries that were in trouble a fighting chance. We have GIVEN poor people in Africa and poor African nations a structure to build on and hope with AIDS relief. We have GIVEN millions of man hours of blood, sweat and tears. WE have GIVEN millions of man hours in charity and missions. We have GIVEN the world many SPORTS to enjoy! We have imported from other countries like no other! We have GIVEN peace in areas that you may never even know of. We have thwarted regimes from doing more evil than what they have. We have stifled evil with the threat of retaliation. We have GIVEN hope to many around the world...................I know many Americans are good people and we EXPORT our LOVE on a level that NO other country can even compare to!

How about all the inventions we have just GIVEN away for free!!!!!

How about all the anti Americanism going on in this thread????????

AT least we STAND for something and DO something!

I want to see China take a stand and bring proposals to the UN security Council. Russia too! I want to see other countries fight for freedom in other countries. I want to see other countries fight for whats right.
Theres no time like the present

A man that stands for nothing....will fall for anything!

All people need to do more on every level!

Bosnia? Are you serious? You sat back and watched them get slaughtered, after imposing a ban on weapons sales to the Bosnians so that they couldn't defend themselves.

Next you'll be lauding the great job you did in Rwanda.

What did anyone else do? Isn't that the point of this topic, but as far as I can tell no matter what good the USA does you always try to play to the contrary. I might not post a lot but I do read a lot on here. That seems to be your MO.

What did anyone else do? Nothing. Because they were all blocked from doing anything at the U.N. And we know who pulls the strings at the U.N, don't we?
Why did you include Bosnia an Kosovo in your post above? Do you actually know anything about what happened, and didn't happen, over there?

When you go back to the late 90's and early 2000s the United States and UK were the biggest contributors. Greece has about 118 trrops there they peeked at about 1000. The US have about 775 and peaked at about 7000. Look I am not saying no other country helps, but to say the United States only backs wars is fucking insane.

yeah..greece first of all gave the world maths..lets put them down with numbers
Greece is A 10 million country USA 320 millions..32 times more...
Greece sent 118 trrops..usa 775..is like what 7 times more..??
now do the maths....lets put the analogy..
    usa should sent 118 x 32 times = 3776 and not only 775
or if 775 usa sent Grecce should sent 32 times less manpower, and its 24 men and not 118..

you talked about 7000 total usa sent there..this number 7000 is the 50% of the men and women serve the whole Greek Airforce..
of course we cant sent the half of Greek Airforce manpower to a peace force out of our country..

you can just throw number to show us usa sent more..cos its not ..Bigger country sent more ..its logic..
but with the analogy of the population each country has,be sure Greece sent more troops at kosovo than usa.
and be sure,we dont feel brave or brag or any kind of special that we helped another counbtry..is what countries should do to eachother...
no need to mention, our troops went there, didnt get any extra money as they promised them..they fool them in the end..

and another thing..you wear usa uniform ..now tell me..with which uniform you will fell safer wearing it?Greek or usa military uniform??..which uniform worldwide is hated the most??
you know the answer..cos u know very well that usa is the number one country in the world behind most of the wars..
and this words coming from me,that i like usa!!but that doesnt mean im blind and cant see whats goin on..

A much better approach is to ask yourself what YOU are doing to help people around the world and stop worrying about what others are doing.

Also, there isn't a point in taking pride in what America is doing if you're not personally doing anything yourself.

I wish nationalism would go away.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
