They wrote and released a freaking song for him. Rock Around Barack. No, Ed was not on that song, but he has voiced his very vocal support of Obama.

October, I can sense that you're trying to be respectful about it, but it would seem that most people wouldn't appreciate it. Now, if missiles from the US are raining down on Syria, I think PJ wouldn't be happy about it.

I really think if you're this passionate about it, consider writing the band/10c a letter. I think they might see some if the letters and something as important as this to the band might ge answered. Just a thought..

I'm not sure I follow the idea of asking us to keep our opinions to ourselves on an AMT (or any other forum section, for that matter) thread. I really want to say, "OK, October22, I'll keep my opinions to myself..." and then my finger go to the key board. Augh! Edit, edit, edit. We all do it. I think you get my drift.

I'm also not sure why you say this is not a political thread when it is aimed at voicing your opinion (which we are not supposed to do here) by holding up signs at a concert.

He originally posted this on the Porch, and Kat moved it to AMT. Also, he's not looking for a debate on whether he should do it or not. He was asking people if they wanted to join in. If they don't, fine, move on, but if they do, great. Kind of like those petition threads asking the band to play a song at a certain show. Generally people don't chime in if they don't want to hear the song, they either don't go to the thread at all,or they don't say anything.

so protesting against a president at a concert by a band who most in the band supported is essentially protesting the band that you are paying $160 to see...

kind of like paying to go to a vote for change show and protesting on behalf of bush to spite the band and a majority of its fans.

    it makes no sense.

but knock yourself out. go get 'em tiger :)

I voted for Obama for healthcare and some other social issues

This country has been at war for about 95% of its existence. Government institutions live on while Presidents come and go every few years....

Sigh. Ya know, in my short time actually contributing here and arguing that Obama is nothing but a scapegoat to the system in charge, it seems like very few people actually read and understand that. Thank you.

Some interesting comments. I've tried to stay out of the conversation because I didn't want to fan the flames but I have to say I'm a little disappointed in some of you.

Clearly many of you feel extremely passionate about my suggestion. I'd like to clear a few things up without upsetting you further.

I tried to make it clear that I wasn't looking for a fight here. I meant no disrespect when I said I wasn't interested in dissenting points of view. I'm cool with differing opinions and confrontation. I was simply saying that my aim in this thread was specifically to see if anyone else was interested in exploring this idea. If no one was, the thread could die a quick death and I'd have my answer. I assumed a few people would have something negative to say but I'm pretty shocked at the venom behind some of your comments. Relax guys. I'm not gonna "ruin" your show. I was pretty clear about holding up a sign once, maybe twice and was explicit about being sensitive to the people around me. Maybe some of you didn't catch that. There are many other comments that I could counter very easily (all of them in fact) but again, I just don't see the point. I'm not interested in proving anyone wrong or pissing people off (in this thread at least :) )

I'm starting to realize more and more that Pearl Jam is different things to different people on a much greater scale than I'd previously imagined. In some ways I feel like we're fans of a completely different band. That's alright though. I'm happy we've all discovered them and become fans for different reasons (though music first and foremost of course). One of the things I've always loved about PJ was their encouragement of a two way political discourse between the band and the fans. If that's not your cup of tea, no problem. There are plenty of other threads to post in. No need to call me or my ideas stupid or waste your time shit talking each other. Don't get me wrong, I can happily handle it and I certainly don't take shit on here personally but christ fellas, relax.

And to those who support the idea or don't but at least had the courtesy and intellectual flexibility to understand where I'm coming from, I really appreciate it.

You bring your anti-Obama sign. I'll bring my sign protesting the rising cost of stamps. Someone else can bring a sign protesting how come A-Rod gets to keep playing this season even though he's a known cheater.

Sounds like a really fun night.

People should protest when they feel like their government is doing wrong, whether or not they voted for them.

With that being said, does anyone expect me to believe that the alternative, Romney, would be LESS likely to get us involved in a conflict? That's laughable.

I don't think that was brought up.

The Republicans put Obama in office by not producing a candidate worth voting for.
