No milk door. But that question makes me laugh.

it does have laundry shoot doors in the bathrooms.

See, now that is cool!! I hope you decide to keep them.. unless the house has already been modified to main floor laundry, but most ranches from that era have not..

    attached garage?

yep, attached 2-door garage. Its a single story, the shoot doors are really just to put a basket at the bottom of a closet.

it has been updated in a lot of ways, but the bathrooms could use new counter tops. perhaps granite in a few years.

    Granite is nice..

not related, but something to think about.. My friend Mike scored a bowling alley lane and made it into his kitchen counter top.. very durable, and very cool looking..

Hmm.. my grandma's 50's style ranch has the bathroom laundry shoot going right to the table in between the washer and dryer in the basement.. i figured this was the master plan back then..

What a super cool idea on the bowling lane.

Gotta keep in mind i'm in Houston, We don't have basements here.

Side note: Even tho every time I visit the Alamo in SA I'm always tempted to ask about the basement on Pee Wee's behalf.:lol:

You may want to check out this site: http://retrorenovation.com/

It's for people who own "Mid-century Mods"--houses built between the 1940s and the 1970s. I live in a 1947 ranch.

Reading this thread makes me happy :)
I have a milk box on my house :)
Grandpa built this house for grandma in 1952, lots of pink just for her (plus it was the "in" color) :)
Grandma gave us the house after grandpa passed and she could no longer take care of it :)
It has a milk box :)

My house was custom built in 1947. It has 2 bathrooms! A very big deal in those days. And of course, they are both pink.

Lucky you to have your grandparents' house. :D

Awww thanks! We received the house only because my older cousin received his paternal grandfather's house and I am the next oldest, this being my maternal grandparent's house. (family has lived here over 150 years, the census says there is well over 100,000 people living here but it still has a small town feel).

The house exterior was originally white and pink (pink roses being my grandma's favorite flower), pink and gray bathroom (1 but stubbed for a second, so we added that second), pink marbled formica counter tops, pink and gray kitchen floors (that was covered up in the 80's with brown/orange).

The thing I love the most is that we inherited all of the flowers and landscaping along with the house. On the south side of the house we have an heirloom 7 Sisters rose bush that my grandmother gave to her mother in 1947. In the back of the house we have several rose bushes that grandma received for Mother's Day gifts throughout the years. In the front brick planter we have calla lilies that grandpa gave to grandma when they moved into the house.

Wow, I was in a bad mood and this thread and talking about my house snapped me out of it :D:D:D !!!!

I knew when I first walked in the front door of our house that it was the place for us. I don't think I could live anywhere except in an older house.

Tim won some Phillies tickets in a raffle at work. He's taking one of his autistic clients from his other job to the game.
This client just loves loves loves baseball, watches it all the time, mimics the players, but has never been to a game. He just texted that he's never seen anyone so excited as when they pulled up to the ballpark....pointing, cheering, clapping. That makes me HAPPY :D ♥ I hope the weather cooperates
