Yeah, the brothers separated by death caused by war has been out there for a while. He did seem to go a little deeper with the explanation of the people on the porch here though, but as garbled as the lyrics have always been the basic outline of the story has always been there.

Glad the show was so awesome last night. Sounds like a great time.
I suggest you step out on your porch...run away my son...see it all...oh see the world // I wait on the porch...hoping someday I'll be let in

By far one of the best shows I've ever seen. I was at NYC 1, and he definetely seemed more at home with the crowd for NJ. The venue was awesome and the crowd was pretty well behaved for the most part (It seems that people are losing their patience with assholes shouting out stuff while he's trying to talk). I went with my husband and our 9 yo son (his 1st show!), and they loved it too. It was a night I'll never forget, everything was great!! Wish he was doing more shows here (actually started daydreaming about maybe PJ doing a show here!!) Thanks Eddie for an unforgettable evening!!

after 17 years, we finally know wat YLB is about. thanks to a drunken fan who shouted "what are the words for yellow ledbetter?"

summing it up the song is about a guy who died in the gulf war and the guys family got a "yellow letter" (get it?) in the mail stating his son died. there was more to it than that but I dont feel like typing a whole story.

Oh and Ed was probably in THE BEST mood tonight. He was talking to the crowd just as much as he was singing.

Wait....a drunken fan was the reason he told the story that everyone is going mad about? lol
If you are quick this morning, there is a clip of the story on youtube right now.

And NJPAC is the nicest place he's ever played.

Cool clip on YouTube, but seriously, are there people who post on this message board who didn't already know this story?

  • Words cannot describe the atmosphere in that room last night when Ed told the story behind YL. You could hear a pin drop from the fourth tier.

I have such new deep appreciation for YL having experienced that moment last night. I was definitely fighting back tears.

OMG you don't know the story behind YL... there's no way you are a "real" fan....

    Read what I wrote.
All I meant was if you're psycho enough about the band to post on this board, and if the #1 question in PJ 'fandom' is "What are the lyrics to YL" then chances are somewhere along the line you've heard/read the story. It's not some huge revelation, is it?

Like I said though, cool clip on You Tube.

I was in row N last night and it seemed like you could see the whole crowd in front of me just lean foward to the edge of their seats when he started to explain YLB. What a night. What a huge mistake it would have been to go to just one show, as I planned on doing.
