Charlottesville 10/29 Roll Call

I would appreciate some input from the locals.
My Wife and I want to take a day for a scenic drive while we are out there. I am picking the Blue Ridge Parkway over the Shenandoah NP Skyline Drive on the basis that going south this late in October would get the best of the Fall foliage. Do you agree? Any opinion on whether it would be better to go from north entrance to south ( probably Peaks of Otter) or south to north? We would take I-81 the other way.
Any other Blue Ridge Parkway tips appreciated.
Thanks,
CharlesCharles

Sooo.....like many of you I've REALLY been looking forward to this show/tour. My buddy has a pair of 10C tix for Charlotte and I've a pair for Charlottesville. We're in B'ham, AL and we were planning on making it into a road trip. The caveat: I bought the tix w/o telling my wife :nono: . The lotto went down in the couple of weeks prior to Wrigley and, since I went to Chicago, I knew it was a lost cause to request a trip for other shows. So I just bought 'em....act now, ask for forgiveness later I suppose :ugeek: . My buddy got the greenlight from his wife since he didn't do Wrigley. Long story short, when I told my wife about three weeks ago that I had tix it didn't go over very well. My buddy's wife has changed her stance as well and doesn't want him to go. We both agree that keeping the peace in our respective houses is more important than the trip and as of this week have bagged it. This morning I told my wife that we weren't going. She was elated
. Inside I was sick  . I know it's the right thing to do but it still sux. Seeing PJ live ranks waaay high in my pantheon of most favorite things to do. I wish my wife would be able to be happy for my happiness and send me packing for VA, NC roadtrip w/ a kiss. Not gonna happen tho.
A lil' bummed,

Dude, that sucks! Makes me feel quite lucky that my wife understands me without PJ is a miserable me, which makes it a miserable us, which means: "fuck it, might as well rock out!"0 -

What were her reasons for it not going over well?
You can't afford it? She doesn't trust you? She just doesn't want you having fun without her?The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.0 -
I'll be there in the GA pit with my lovely wife. Hope to see some of you there and in the GA line. I plan on being there mid-morning.Virginia Beach, VA - 06/17/2008 Bristow, VA - 05/13/2010 Charlottesville, VA - 10/29/20130

We're getting close to peak in the foothills/piedmont area, and probably will be at peak by show date. The higher elevations always peak first, and the Dept of Forestry reports that some of the mountains in the southwest are at peak now. So it's hard to tell if north or south would be best anywhere on the parkway. Your best bet may be to stay in Charlottesville if your goal is to see leaves.
If you're open to something other than the Blue Ridge Parkway drive, I recommend you go west on 64 to a town called Staunton at the 64/81 junction, about an hour drive from Charlottesville. You cross some beautiful mountains on the way; the town itself is nestled in the hills, great window shopping, a little history (Woodrow Wilson house), and cool restaurants/coffee shops. If you're into Shakespeare, they surprisingly have a world class theatre called the Blackfriars Playhouse, and there's also a Frontier Museum on the edge of town. I love spending time in Staunton. I was there two Octobers ago about this time along with Charlottesville (Oct 21), and the leaves were perfect that weekend.
Otherwise, I say just be flexible and see when you get here. Here's the link from the Dept of Forestry. Check back for updates because things change rapidly.

. My wife has two gripes:
1) Financial. A 6-8 hour road trip for three days and two nights is not cheap (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=107491&hilit=south+play+south
). Can we afford it? Yep. Could the money be spent other more family-centric ways? Yep. I'd sold some whatnot on the-selling-site-that-will-remain-unnamed and was planning to finance the trip solely thru selling some of my dust-collecting shizz.
2) Time together. We do an annual "us" trip which we've not yet done this year. I was planning on trying to do both the road trip and then later in the fall a weekend away together (have cake/eat it too
) . In her opinion, my going on the road trip is choosing Pearl Jam over her. I asked her to go to Chicago and make the Wrigley show part of our trip. Live shows aren't her thing, which is understandable, so she declined and I went with a buddy instead. So here we are in late October w/ no "us" trip and my going on the road w/ a friend supplants that in some ways.
Long story short...I gotta get over it. I spent most of yesterday being resentful about not getting to go and am now trying to move on. Life's too short to be bitter. IMHO, seeing PJ play is a privilege. It's one that's only available for so long and I want to catch that lightning in a bottle as many times as I can. Here's to hoping to see them play next time around.0 -

My good drive suggestions would be horrible unless I pull out a map- I can tell you where to take a left and right, send you by some great breweries and get you to some trail heads if you want to get out and stroll- in short though, your BR Parkway choice is great picking up around Staunton/Waynesborough off 64 is a solid bet. Enjoy!!!got a car...got some gas...oh let's get out of here-get out of here fast...
I hope you get this message but your not home...I will be there in just a minute or so...
I want to go but I want to go with you.

Thanks for the driving tips, I will look into what has been suggested.
BTW, I just checked Ticketmaster and pulled 2 in Section 108, which is lower bowl straight across from the stage behind the floor. Those aren't nosebleed. Late releases maybe?
I'm hoping for 10C reserved seats on the side for 159xxx. My Wife is in a wheelchair but can get to a seat (usually-the ushers typically allow me to stash the chair somewhere). I am taking the chance the 10C seats will be better than the ADA seats, which I thought were pretty poor. I hope my seniority will be decent at somewhat less popular venue, and 10C sees the sentiment that people prefer the side to the rear floor.

make them move you if she can't see.
JPJ venue has sensible ADA seats in my opinion. but i could be wrong.
maybe we'll be seated together.

Is anyone else going from Baltimore to Charlottesville Monday (or Sunday night) and have the day to kill? I'll be spending some time Monday likely hiking, eating, and drinking if anyone wants to meet up.0

We leave for Charlottesville in 30 hours. Can't wait to experience the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and to see the greatest band on the planet!

Hey Cville people! Super excited for tomorrow!!!!
Question for fellow GAers -
This won't be my first GA experience but will be my first with no designated GA line. Saw in 10C email that there would be multiple doors to the floor at this show, so I emailed JPJ about it and got this response:
"Thank you for your email. Yes, for this event, the GA ticket holders may come to any entrance. I would say that our SE Entrance on Massie Road would provide the closest door to a down aisle to the floor."
Does anybody have previous experience with kind of GA situation at JPJ (or another arena?) I'm planning on getting there early morning, so I'll probably be ok, but would still be kinda bummed if I wait in front of an entrance for almost 10 hours and don't get on the rail. Main reason is that I'm five feet tall and have had some shitty times standing behind people on a floor before. But, regardless, the show will ROCK and I'm SO PSYCHED to see PJ in Charlottesville - even if I'm in the back row!
Thanks in advance!!0
