This show is going to sell out quick on Ticketmaster. Hopefully the lottery goes well...however odds are not looking good.

The odds are looking kinda gross, but... we'll see.

Not sure why people are saying hotels are scarce close to the arena. I just grabbed the doubletree for 139 and its only about a third of a mile away. Seems like a good value.

Yeah, I guess I've never had to stay the night downtown, I just go home, so I don't know what hotels are there. Aside from the casinos, the RenCen, and thhe Book-Cadillac.

I work as a nurse downtown at the Detroit Medical Center, so I figure I'll offer my food/drink tips for the out-of-towners.

I totally second the suggestion of Green Dot Stables. Good food, cheap drinks, a weekly "mystery meat" slider (I've had reindeer, rabbit, kangaroo). http://greendotstables.com/

Bucharest Grill/Park Bar http://www.bucharestgrill.com/ and Cliff Bell's http://www.cliffbells.com/ are right next to each other and great options (Bucharest is cheap/casual, Cliff Bell's is more upscale).

And, like other people said, Greektown, Slows BBQ, and I've heard Rub Pub BBQ is good, but I haven't actually been there yet.

It was tasty! But a month or two later I went to the zoo and saw the kangaroos and felt guilty about it. :-/

Bucharest is great, except for big events. We went there before the Monday night Football game in December (the one that the lions lost on a 63 yard field goal), and it was a zoo. No seats, took forever to get food, and when we did, the order was wrong.

Eh... I would never go to Bucharest before a Lions or Tigers game. But the Joe is far enough away. My usual Red Wings game routine is park in Fox town for cheap, eat at Bucharest, catch a shuttle or take the people mover to and from the Joe. You avoid all the traffic that way too.
