Can anyone recommend safe parking options in the area aside from the arena lot?

People mover isn't too difficult IMHO. It only goes one direction, so as long as you know what stop to get off at, you're good. Joe Louis has a stop, so that makes it easy. They have a map on their website: thepeoplemover.com/WE-LL-TAKE-YOU-THERE!.id.2.htmakumaizer said:
We are not a particularly cab heavy or friendly city, but it is possible. While the Joe is easy to get to, parking around it can be a nightmare. Most Detroiters have 'their spots' and use the People Mover (don't ask) or just walk over but this would be hard to explain without knowing the city. Uber and Lyft are around here and might be your best option.pjsteelerfan said:Curious, are cabs easy to get in Detroit, or easy to drive to the Joe? Hotel is a little further than we thought.
And you can't beat the 75 cent fare. I would suggest parking at Greektown Casino, it's free and has a people mover stop right in it....got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...0 -
Get the parkopedia app or check their website - terrific information about parking lots and garages near Joe Louis arena.100 Pacer said:Can anyone recommend safe parking options in the area aside from the arena lot?

As I told pjsteelersfan, Greektown Casino is the way to go for parking, it's free and as secure as you're gonna get. It's an easy People Mover ride (75 cents each way) to the Joe."Sometimes you find yourself having to put all your faith in no faith."

Plenty of parking garages downtown if you don't want to park in the arena garages (Joe Louis or Cobo). If you plan on doing the pre-party at BW3 or hitting any of the bars downtown, Greektown is your best bet. Just hop on the People Mover to/from the arena. The Parkopedia website is great; you'll need to make sure wherever you park it's 24 hours since many of them close at 11pm or earlier. I think there's a garage on the corner of First and Congress (3 minute walk to the arena) that's 24 hours.0

Do you know if the Cobo roof parking lot closes at 11 on event nights or do they extend the hours?Motown322 said:Plenty of parking garages downtown if you don't want to park in the arena garages (Joe Louis or Cobo). Been checking for a ticket drop..is this show finally sold out? Nothing on sale now, seems a bit early in the week for them to just take it down completely. Anyone? Bueller?0
-
Yeah, TM is saying tickets not on sale0

I'd imagine they'd stay open until the show ends... how long they'll stay open in anyone's guess (typical time is an hour after the show/game). I will tell you that getting out of the JLA parking garage after a Wings game is an absolute fucking disaster (especially if you get stuck on the upper levels). I avoid parking there like the plague. If you want to be in a garage for vehicle safety reasons, I'd go over to Greektown or park in the garage at the RenCen across from the Marriott. If you're staying in town that night, there's no reason to park at the JLA... park over at Greektown and hit up some of the bars/restaurants downtown after the show.Hawk123 said:

Thanks for the heads up. I'm driving back to Windsor after the show so maybe it's better to park a little further from JLAMotown322 said:

No smoking in bars in Detroit... and Hawk123, just park over at the RenCen Marriott then. The parking deck is right next to the tunnel.0
