Well, us immigrants who came and conquered have been paying taxes and speak the language spoken by the majority.
The ones coming here now illegally (whoever it may be, but mainly mexicans and other spanish-speaking countries), do not pay taxes and are failing to live by the law.
Yeah, we came here "illegally" but the past has passed and we are living in the present. We conquered the land, its ours.
Nice to know.
So these Mexicans, they pay no taxes at all?? I find that impossible to believe sorry. And how do you know it's mostly Spanish speaking people that flee to your utopia, I'd like to see an actual breakdown of those figures if you care to back it up.
Seems very ironic that we are talking about native Americans in an immigration thread, without there being some sort of punch line
I apologize, I made a major generalization. But there are those who come here and live with family and/or friends and then go to work. So basically living here for free.
And I know people from various countries come here illegally, but i was referring to the countries south of the USA. Many places I go in town have employees who speak only spanish, and i have family who work with employees who speak little to no english (not saying they are illegal, but the fact that they dont learn English annoys me).
So my point is that i just wish people will come here legally, learn our language, and respect our laws. I understand some people get desperate and come here illegally, but why not make an effort to do it legally when possible. If you havent caught on yet, its a difficult topic for me. I understand why they do it, but it still annoys me. So yeah...
Hey no need to apologise, I think we're just at polar opposites when it comes to this particular subject.0 -

Well, your view (I think) is that those against immigration are racist.
I, am not racist. You never said I was, but I just want to point that out.
I welcome immigration. I am a history major and I love reading about all those who made this country, all of whom were immigrants.
I am just against the illegal immigration of today, which most of which is mexican and other spanish countries. Do I hate them? Not at all. I sympathize for those who come here who were living in shit conditions back home. I just dont sympathize for those who come here to take advantage of our laws.
So I do not think we are polar opposites in this subject. I understand and agree that it is bizarre that the US is fighting illegal immigration despite the US being built by immigrants. But that doesnt mean we can't take measures to stop illegal activities going on.~Carter~
You can spend your time alone, redigesting past regrets, oh
or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who can't forgive yourself, oh
makes much more sense to live in the present tense - Present Tense0 -

Yeah I kind of did draw parallels on the whole racism thing, it was more a comment towards some of the more extreme posters who have expressed such opinions.
Absolute apologies for the presumption that it was directed at everyone, was a little immature and reactionary of me to say.0 -

Interesting, a country founded on immigration has decided, no more. Immigration, the last safe house for racists. People that are not necessarily against immigration per se, just the easy identifiable ones, you know, ones of colour.
"Hey Mexican, get out of your country!!"
