OH MY GOD! Somebody held an umbrella for the president? Who on earth does he think he is, President of the United States or something?

    How's my sarcasm meter? ;)

You know, friends, a lot nastier shit is going on in the world, in your country, in your home town and probably on you favorite web site these days. Don't lose too much sleep over it. I think, as the saying goes, we all "have bigger fish to fry".

OP... the creation of this thread and the spirit of it clearly reflect two things:

    1. Obama must be pretty damn good if this is something you have to grasp at to try and discredit him. With this said, be thankful you have him then.

    2. Your source of frustration for the man is puzzling. I mean, didn't Bush lower the bar to a point where afterwards, Charles Manson would have seemed like a godsend? The deep rooted and profound problems spawned by Bush's administration at a very minimum appear to be correcting themselves. This cannot have been easy; yet, I listen to Obama bashers slam him at every moment they can to voice their frustration over his inability to snap his fingers and simply erase the aftermath of disastrous economical and foreign polices so they disappear like an etch-a-sketch might with a child's bad drawing. Seriously? An umbrella for gawd's sakes?

    1) I do realize this is not a problem, issue, or anything to get pissed about.

    2) I'm not angry. I think it looks arrogant. That's all. I said it before, if it was GW, Clinton, Reagan, or JFK I would have had the same reaction.

    3) I don't have a deep rooted hatred for Obama. I don't like him at all as prez, but I also HATED GW as well.

    4) In no way was the point of me posting this intended to be a political statement. I don't rely on fox news, rush Limbaugh or glen beck for my news. Just for everyone's information, I've been voting since 1996 and I haven't once voted for a dem or a rep for prez.

I have no problem with someone holding and umbrella for the POTUS, but not a member of the military. They are there for a different reason. A staffer should have done it.

I also do not think the POTUS ordered the Marines to hold the umbrella. It was probably some asshole staffer.

You like so many other regressives refuse do any research before making inflammatory remarks.
Try doing just a tiny little bit of research and you may learn something.

I assume you were also outraged during the Cheney/Rove regime when George W. Bush spent a grand total of 879 days at his Crawford, Texas ranch during his 8 years as President??
And a total of 1020 vacation days during his time in the white house???.....
Calls to several Presidential libraries reveal that President Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush, was on vacation more — 1,020 days — than any U.S. President since Herbert Hoover and possibly more than any other President in history.

Even President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was in office 12 years from 1933 to 1945, was on vacation less days than President Bush at 958 days. Calls to several Presidential Libraries reveal that no President can come close to Bush’s 1,020 days on vacation in an 8 year period. Even Lyndon Johnson, who spent 484 days at his ranch in Texas and at Camp David during his presidency, came in under Bush’s vacation time. Some claim the cost of Bush’s frequent trips to Crawford, Texas cost taxpayers upwards of $20 million, but the numbers are hard to confirm.

And in case you were interested here is more easily accessed information regarding presidential vacation days
President Obama in his first four years has taken 131 days, dividing his time between Hawaii, Martha’s Vineyard and, of course, Camp David, the official get away of U.S. presidents. At this rate, he could hit 262 days by the end of his eighth year, about average for modern presidents.

He certainly is not the king of vacation days. That honor falls to President George W. Bush, who racked up 1,020 vacation days in his eight years in office, including one five-week vacation, the most of any president in 36 years. Not to say he wasn’t on the job when he was at his Crawford, Texas ranch, but he was away from the White House.

And if we compare days off in the first year alone, President Bush still nabs the honor with 69 vacation days :o , President Obama with 26 and President Clinton with 19.

while Bush spent more time outside of Washington than Obama, it is also worth nothing that nearly all of Bush's vacations were trips back to his Texas ranch or family vacation homes in Maine.
The Post, in 2005, conceded that Bush's vacations--unlike Obama's--were not lavish and he did not "make time for fun."
