Did I miss something? What kind of car are you looking at?
she's got a hankering for an AMC Eagle
There's a nice one sitting in Seattle too ... We are living on the wrong coast!
well, I did see that AMC Pacer in West Seattle...
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
All of you making fun of AMC vehicles, I am HURT! I drove a 73 Gremlin for years!
THAT was the ugliest car EVER! No other car can make the claim.
Well, maybe the Yugo.
In my defense, it was not my choice. My prince's parents gave it to him when he was in college. They owned other AMCs, including a Pacer and (are you sitting down?) a Matador.
I eventually got sick of the embarrassment. If a group of coworkers went out to lunch, nobody wanted to ride with me. So in the early 80s I replaced it with a 75 Volvo 164. Not exactly an attractive car but much classier:

NICE  I kind of dig all the AMC cars, maybe because I am German and we don't really have them over there. I don't think they are ugly at all, the have character! I like the Eagle best because of the 4 wheel drive. Otherwise I might have looked for a Pacer or a Concorde or a Gremlin The Matador looks droolworthy!
I mean, look at these seats, they are pure porn
Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue!
Thanks, whispering hands! We are on the road right now, so I keep it short. We are still considering if it is worth doing it. The seller told us the car has not been moved for ten years, sittin in a garage. Tha kind of makes it impossible to drive it back to Michigan. And we are not sure if we could handle the "shipping" costs... Thanks for your offer, we will discuss it and get back at you!

Of course! Not a Corvette though I guess I just want something more classical and weird :shifty: A car that would never have been possible for me back in Germany ...

Can you pass this message on to cav and leeze. Those AMCs they are looking at had huge issues with the vacuum system used in the transfer Case. http://www.n0kfb.org/homepage/amc/tech/ ... system.htm … If that thing hasn't even been moved for 10 years I'd recommend leaving it alone. Find a nice Cherokee with Command trac or selectrac. I had a grand wagoner that used this vacuum selec trac system and it was a nightmare.

just the middle the man
Thanks  Hi DS  Cav did a little research before, so we are in the knowing... We decided to step away from this one anyway. Getting it here would be too expensive, and it would need new tires too, and it is already on top of our budget. But we will keep our eyes peeled. One will come our way that is in great condition ... If anyone of you spots one, let us know! We want the hatchback version.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't buy ANY car that had been sitting in a garage for 10 years . . . .
Hey, it could be the car of a grandma who hasn't been able to drive anymore and nobody wanted it. Because of that it could be in better shape than one that has been in constant use. Furthermore, my lovely hubs is an excellent car mechanic. I'm trusting him

I hear ya. I've seen cars like that on rare occasions. But I'd be skeptical if it had only been sitting in the garage that long, with nobody even running it occasionally.
My prince is also an excellent mechanic who restores old sports cars for a hobby. After working on our Gremlin and his mom's Pacer way years back, he says there's a reason that AMC went under and can't BELIEVE you want one.
However, since that's what you have your heart set on, I'll keep an eye out.
It might take some time, but I am not in dire need of a car, so I am trying to be patient. Of course I don't wanna be unsafe, and yes, we have talked about this not being the rational choice  But this is going to be my first car. I want something that I fancy, something special. The cars of reason can come later... I've been looking into Jeeps too, and I dig the edgy Cherokees, but I think it would be cool too to have a car that is a little smaller than our other car and less thirsty.
Of course right now, every Eagle that I had my eyes on seems to be sold. Sigh. Patience, Leeze, patience! Not exactly something that I'm good at :fp:

I was always fascinated by cars. Maybe because I grew up in GDR. Everybody had either this:
or this
or this
or this
or this
You had to wait 18 years to get one of the first ones in this list. The colour palette was pretty much what you see in these pics. The Trabant (first pic) was not even made of metal, the body was some kind of plastics. We called it the race cardboard I am just fascinated by cars that look a little different than the ones I am used to. And I don't care if the majority of you thinks the cars I like are ugly :shifty:

Thanks for the links, pjradio! I have seen them all by now I'm using a search engine that skims over all of craigslist ... The wagon looks nice, but I would prefer the hatchback. I don't like the red or white ones. The beige one with reddish lines, the black one or the golden one are my faves. If the interior is in a different colour than the outside and maybe the seats made of tanned leather, I'd be all over it.

Yeah, but the body was a little goofy looking.
I'm looking forward to telling my prince that there's someone who loves AMC cars.
On near there. He has a network of other mechanics
All over Colorado.

it's nothing close to classical but is definitely weird :P
