Is it possible that that level of response could serve as notice to any future pontetial criminals who would wish to do something similar?
Just spitballing here.
Yes, absolutely. But I think you could also make the case that someone could enjoy watching a major American city shut down, could see that as an accomplishment.
I get that.
L.E. may not want to "celebrate" the capture too much. After all , ALL DAY, they searched and the guy was found just outside the search area by a civilian!! Smacks of ineptitude.
Betcha better contingency plans are in place now.
I don't disagree. I was shocked when the dragnet was lifted, thought for sure he had gotten away.
I will say that I think the police are being celebrated more than they are celebrating themselves. The capture is only one reason why. Their performance on the day of the attack, with the race still ongoing, with runners and spectators stretching back out of the city for miles, was impressive. The first responders were so much more than just police and the job they did cannot be celebrated enough in my opinion.
we have elected goverment that pays the military to defend the country from foreign enemies and police to serve and protect the civilians inside the country..and its all we need to have.
You people are so off base. The police state had NOTHING to do with the capture of the suspect. It was not until the police state was lifted that an alert citizen who was finally allowed out of his home found the suspect.
Tell me how in the hell the suspect was allowed to escape the inital overnight shootout? He was wounded, drove through a police barrier, ditched the car a block later, got out on foot and ran away from police with dogs, night vision, infared, and everything else at their disposal...all this while being shot...yet the police continue to get praise for this disgrace.
And to the one who hails from GREECE, what in the hell is an AK-15? Is that the same as an AR-47?
I was hoping someone would post this. It appears to have gone unnoticed though.

I'll address this...
First off, I am not a cop and I have never been in a situation where someone was firing upon me. i don't know how i would react, even if I were trainned to do so. I know it is easy to criticise the police from the safety of my living room on the other side of the country... so, try to restrain myself from doing so.
That said, I believe that they needed to have a greater police presence due to the unknown dangers this person represented. They knew he was armed and in possession of explosives at the time of the initial fire fight that killed his brother. They had no idea of what weapons this person was still in possession of and had to handle it with extreme measures due to the threat this person posed to the general public.
Also, it was noted that a citizen spotted the suspect and caled the police. The response time was immediated because of the heightened level. If it were left to be a busines as usual scenario, then how long would we expect the police to move their resources into place to neutralize the suspect?
I, personally, do not believe it was a 'Police State' because they were not rounding up regular citizens, indiscrimanately and holding them captive under armed guard with threats of harm if they tried to escape. There is a difference between a Police State and a manhunt. This case, was the latter.

i agree+ no one know at the time,if he had other people helping him too,and could do more attacks and kill people

if a bomber is on the loose and your first thought is not "ok i will listen to the police, stay inside, not get in their way, and let them do their jobs" but "hey, wait my freedoms are being taken away ", then perhaps you should re-examine your views on society and being a functioning member of it.

Has anybody heard any complaints out of Watertown residents themselves? I have not.
nothing on national news.
have any boston/watertown locals heard anything?
Been checking the local papers...nothing.
Obviously the government is silencing these poor mistreated souls as part of a coverup while it carries out its plans to rob us all of our civil liberties.

Yeah i remember all those misstreated folks coming out in droves to thank the troops & police the same night they really looked like they had gone thru hell waiting it out

Definition of Police State according to Webster... a political unit characterized by repressive governmental control of political, economic, and social life usually by an arbitrary exercise of power by police and especially secret police in place of regular operation of administrative and judicial organs of the government according to publicly known legal procedures
Yes, Watertown was indeed a Police State for a day.
So much hatred for the government. I won't call it paranoia because I don't think many people actually believe the government is coming for them, regardless of the rhetoric. They don't fear the government...they just hate it.
I don't get what he thinks they should of done how else do you catch a terrorist on the run , and i would think hi's response would be way different if this kid would of gotten away ....And who cares what this old man has to say he tried for the presidency and failed time to think about your golf game pops ....
yeah, screw that guy, the gov't always has my best interest at heart, would never abuse any power, and always tells the truth. People who would point out possible overreaches should be silenced.
what we saw was the capabilities of the gov't on display. I don't necessarily agree with him here, but the speed and ability to lock down an area was both impressive and a bit frightening.
I have never doubted that the gov can just step in and declare a lockdown this didn't surprize me at all and so tell me how would you go about trying to catch someone on the run it's not like there was only one way in & out of Watertown i ask agin how would you go about catching this guy ...and yeah screw him i bet he would of been the 1st to criticize the authorities if this guy would of gotten away ...
The same way you catch any dangerous criminal.
Anyway, I notice that this incident has just given the U.S government the excuse to further tighten its immigration laws, so...there's always a silver lining.
Then again, maybe they should have used a drone to 'neutralize the enemy'?

Worth pointing out that two short months ago we were hearing cries that drones were about to rain fire down upon unsuspecting American citizens in coffee shops. After all the fear-mongering that sure did not happen in Watertown.

Bullshit. Its an excuse to do nothing, because the issue needs further "study" .
