the Palins are an embarassing disaster. until her and Tina Fey, I've never watched a real person talk and think that the person who mocks them on tv is actually better at it than they are.

When my husband saw this Palin segment on tv the other night (with the big gulp), he actually thought was Tina playing Palin and that it was all staged. And it does look like a wig.
As someone whose worked in theater and film for decades I can tell you with 100% certainty that's a wig. Every makeup artist I know has said the same thing. One guy I know who does wigs for a living in Las Vegas told me that it's also not a real human hair wig but a medium-quality wig that uses synthetic hair that he says is used because it holds "volume and that even sheen even under very high heat or humidity."
Apparently he can tell this from looking at still pictures and he says that his accuracy is close to 100%.
Not like it matters, really, Michelle Obama has used weaves in the past and it's not like that really changes anything. It's just odd to me how such an obvious wig hasn't been mentioned when Rand Paul's wig is becoming it's own joke.
