I thought the sound was fine. I wear etymotic earplugs (musicians ear plugs) and they really clear up the sound and make the vocals clearer. We were near the front and the sound was fine.

    What a night!!

I keep meaning to buy some of those, as I attend lots of gigs and it can't be good for my hearing.

Can you point me in the right direction?

I was a bit worried by the ringing in my ears, particularly my left for some reason. I have bad pretty bad ears anyway so in a way it's nice to come on here and see other people have ringing that they don't often get (although obviously would be better if nobody had any). Makes me relieved that I'm not the only one. I'm sure by the end of today/tomorrow it'll stop for all of us.

I think it's the distortion that makes your ears ring. Mine were ringing last night for a while. First time in a long time that's happened, but cleared up before I went to bed. I think those who said they were too loud are right. Of course a gig should be loud, but too loud and it leads to these sound probs. Bummer.
    Still fun tho.

It sounded a bit tinny at times, but I'm not complaining.

Oh wait, I demand a refund! South Park style, when Kyle and Stan want their money back from Mel Gibson.... :D

Etymotic ER20 or ETY Plugs as they appear to be now http://www.etymotic.com

I've bought them from string busters in the past but they dont appear to have them in stock.

I got my last few pairs from ebay but do a search on google and I'm sure you'll find somewhere that has them in stock. They limit the level by 20dbs without making the music muffled. I've used them with my band for 4 years and always wear them at gigs.

I really dont see what the fuss was about. I was in the standing section, centre, about halfway back and the sound was fine. Vocals, mike, stone, jeff, all clear.

you say potato... i say you're wrong...! ;)

some folks had good sound, others didn't, just depends on where you were sitting/standing. Wembley's a big echoey barn that was never designed for msuic in the first place so i guess it's difficult to get good sound everywhere.
Oh yeah? Well, I've had about enough of morons and halfwits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells - and you chowderhead yokel, you blithering hayseed, you - you've had enough of me?

You're right. each to their own, I guess. I suppose if you were seated at the back it might not have been too good.

I for one though thought it was fine!

i agree. i think the setlist ruled, but i didnt quite believe Ed when he said they are enjoying themselves. I am 6'8" tall and i reckon i was less than 15 meters from Ed, and I defenately saw him not beeing as happy as I have seen him in so many videos over the years. he was a little drunk when they started, and there was a few hints at his displeasure with the sound.

this was my 3rd show. first one was Reading. audio could not have been better, ever.

second one was Prague, and people sad then that the band, and many of the fans were not happy with the sound there.

i now find myself trying to cling on to the memory of the first two shows.

Did you get your merchandise after the shwow? I got the white t-shirt and the Wembley tour poster. very happy about that

i got the white tshirt as well, i'm quite happy with it. i didn't get the poster, it was sold out inside the venue, there was some outside but to be honest, i didn't like it. i stared it for some time and just didn't feel like buying it. i'm glad you got yours though :)

have you seen the unofficial jackets and hoodies they were selling outside? not only they were 15 pounds, but unfortunately they were much better looking then the official merchandise (imho). i got one of those.

The sound quality was poor initially, but they did get it better as things went on.

    Was fucking loud though!
  • From the opening drumming of Long Road it was LOUD!! But then when my ears got used to it the sound quality was great for me. Couldn't really hear Boom much but should all sound great on the boot.

there was loads of unofficial stuff outside, but since I already have a hoody (http://mookiepics.blogspot.com/2006/11/pearl-jam-in-praha.html), i just concentrated on getting home.

I hope they release a boot for this, and I think the recording would sound much better - reducing levels of our-loud guitars and the echo in the room.

on the floor, central about 4/5 row I thought the sound quality was perfect: 11/10

They turned up Mike after the first few songs...definitely evident during Immortality

Yeah it was a great gig but the sound was poo. I think this is down to the venue itself not PJ.

Wembley Arena is renowned for being quite shitey as far as acoustics are concerned...it's a listed building though so they can't make changes to it

I think it used to be an olympic sized swimming pool or something

  • Thought it sounded awful personally. Severed Hand lacked any impact; the snare sound and crash cymbals sounded nasty and Jeff was just a mess.

I came on here intending to make a post such as this.

I was on the floor maybe half way back on Mikes side. The sound wasn't too bad for the quieter, slow songs but the more rockier stuff all i could hear was a bass drum, snare, Eddies distorted vocals sitting over the top of Mikes guitar which in my opinion was way too loud. Very rarely did i hear Stones guitar.

Big dissapointment for me, shame cus the guys were on fine form and must have had some great sound coming out of those monitors!...

I really do feel rather bad at the moment. I had all day to think about last night (still with the ringing in my ears), and I'm dissapointed that it didnt live up to the hype that a PJ should. If I had earplugs it would have been better, but I'm not going to dwell on things like that.

Was it just me or did Down have a slightly heavier guitar sound?

I have never ever heard so many people say that the guitarist one the side they were on sounded that much louder and possibly drowned out the other instruments. Wish I could hear something from the band on the possible sound issue at a future show.

Sound was perfect where I was standing -about 10 deep from the stage, half way between Stone and Eddie.

Its a good thing the setlist was what it was, because the sound was awful, I mean Eds mike was fuzzy, Mike wasn't there in some songs and Jeff was non existent. The only thing I can hope is that the boot sounds clearer. But the setlist was fucking incredible, if it weren't for the sound it would have been one of the bands best shows of the past few tours.

  • I thought the sound was great. I'm sorry to hear those of you that had a different experience. I was standing right towards the back dead centre, and although Ed's vocals were not quite so crisp as in 2000, the overall sound was much richer. When Comatose kicked in my non-pj friend turned to me and agreed how good it sounded. Thinking back I wouldn't say the sound was perfect, but it in no way got in the way of my enjoyment. I could hear Ed fine, and thought he was on top form.

I saw Dylan at the National Indoor Arena a few months ago, and found the sound there truly shocking, and it totally ruined the gig for me, despite him playing an awesome setlist. I could barely make out what he was singing, and despite knowing all the songs it took me 3 minutes to recognise them, it was terrible. Then my mate who was sitting elsewhere at the same gig thought the sound was perfect and had a great night.

I guess these arenas can have very variable acoustics, dependent on where you are. I'm just sorry to hear people had their experience spoiled. It was a wonderful night for me.

I am really surprised. I thought the sound was fantastic. Someone else said that and he was where I was... about 20 meters from the stage, center.

Really spectacular sound. And I'm usually really picky with it (thought sound was horrible in Grand Rapids and no one else did).
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

to 3 previous shows of theirs during the last tour, I have to say the sound quality was poor. Was sitting on Mike's side pretty close to the stage. Everything sounded a bit distorted and it was really, really loud and I have been to see some loud, loud bands. Also had problem of ringing in ears after the gig but seemed to have improved now. Having said that, i was facing the speakers on Mike's side. Also noticed that earplugs actually help with the sound. Everything sounded a lot clearer when i put them on, could hear all the instruments and most importantly ed's voice. Still a brilliant concert.
If Pearl Jam was a beer, they'd probably be the best beer in the world!!
