Because it spoke to me then and now for different reasons but still the same. It's indescribable in words through an iPhone. This song rips me up and puts me back together every time. Then of course the tags.
Thanks for the chance.

The fact that Pearl Jam for the first time EVER played in my small town since following / collecting goodies from them since '91, it truly was, Hard To Imagine! Goosebumps though out the whole show.
Mine is Release. The first time I heard it on the cd I cried tears of sadness because the words just hit me hard. I have a good relationship with my father so I don't know why it does that to me but it seemed to connect with me. I also cried when I heard it at PJ20 but this time it was tears of joy. I had no problem crying around my friends that night because I was in my own world. I got chills just thinking about it while I was writing this post!

First time I heard it was with my dad listening to the crappy radio in his '88 Dodge Dakota, driving down the mountain after visiting my grandparents. He was such a major influencer of my musical taste -- having sat in the floor with me for hundreds of hours growing up listening to his old Hendrix, CCR, Allman Bros, Joplin, etc. LPs -- and that was the first time he actually liked MY music.
A lot of things have changed since that day, but I have that memory and GTF will always connect me to him.
Now I have a son and I often play that song for him. Here's to hoping he thinks of me the same way I remember my pop.
My anthem is definitely "Given to Fly". I've not yet heard it live and I cannot wait to see if they do it at Wrigley. That would be AMAZING! Thx for the giveaway, that's very cool.

Hard to say what one is my favorite, but Yellow Ledbetter is up there. it conveys a sense of really being in the mind of the artist-- you don't know what Ed is saying, but you can get a sense of what he's feeling...

Lukin is kinda crazy for me. My buddy, whom also loves PJ had a pitbull he saved from a breeder who raised the dogs for fighting. He named him Lukin, needless to say, the dog bit him on the forearm and would not let go. I think about the incident every time I hear that song as well as what Eddie might have been thinking/feeling when wrote it and performs it. Strange comparison?

Ok, there's obviously a time difference so, I'll leave this open til tomorrow morning my time. Then have a good read. Not gonna do any pick a winner announcement bit, That's tacky. Maybe afterwards? I'll PM whoever it is. The ones I've read have been amazing. PJ had the best fans. Talk about passion:)
When I saw Eddie play the Beacon in NYC a couple years ago, he played "Long Road" as a dedication to Clarence Clemons who had passed away a couple days before. The first show I ever saw was with my aunt and uncle when I was 15, Springsteen and the E Street Band in summer of 1999, on their reunion tour, and thankfully one of a handful of times I got to see Springsteen with the original E Street lineup (we're spoiled here in NJ ). I still wear that shirt with the silhouette of Bruce and the Big Man on the front of it, it was my first concert t-shirt. Hearing Eddie sing "Long Road" solo on his Fender was one of the greatest concert moments I've ever witnessed, and I'm sure I'll have the same feelings if I ever get to hear the full band play it live one of these days. There have been some other great moments seeing the band live, "Release" and "Who You Are" at MSG in 2008 and "Love Reign O'er Me" at MSG in 2010, but "Long Road" at the Beacon was one of the most emotional performances I've ever seen.

It's for Dad. Makes me miss him every single time.
Opening PJ20 with Release was really amazing, but MID-SET in Amsterdam 2012 Night 2? Pretty darn awesome as well.
