I'm well overdue for a giveaway. Open to everyone anywhere. It's only small but it comes from the hand of the ed himself..
Have an edved batman pick and something special to pass on. My national anthem is Given to fly. It's the song that makes my heart fly every time I hear it. Live? Makes me cry every time. Tell me what yours is. What gig it was at. When you learned to play it. Why you want to hear it. Whatever.

Caveat. Speak from your heart.

Go...

Given to fly is mine too, love it every time they play it live.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

Well, for me it's Hail Hail. Never thought that much of it until I heard it at my second PJ show in 08 in Mansfield. Since then, it has become a highlight for me. Great tune.

    Thanks for the chance. :D

Chloe/crown of thorns. Opening bars hit during the second encore in Vancouver 2011. Tears of joy fell from my cheeks, waiting 10 years to hear it live and well worth the wait. It's my wake up song on my iPhone now. How could you wake up feeling shitty with that playing?

  • My anthem is Release. To me it's about discovering who I am, where I come from and what I want from life. I think that's why I love the band so much. Every song reminds me what's important in life. It's so easy to get caught up in the rat race. The band, music, and especially this song keeps me grounded and remindse that I don't have to define myself as part of the machine; which brings me to my next favorite song. I am mine. I know I was born an I know that Ill die; the in between is mine.
. . . the in between is mine.

    Release...

I have had the strangest relationship with my dad over the course of my life. When I was a kid, he was my hero. I had him on such a pedestal, it was inevitable he'd have to come down at some point when I realized (as I got older) that he was, in fact, human. I struggled with that for a long time - all subconsciously of course. As I became more mature, I realized how much like my dad that I really am....faults and strengths.

I never really related to the song Release until one day, after a pretty intense experience after my dad got out of surgery. I was driving home from one of my visits at the hospital - listening to the 2012 Manchester night 1 boot - really listened to the words of that song, and it hit me really hard.

    Present Tense...Letterman Webcast.
This song is very important to me and helped me through some difficult times when I needed it the most back when No Code came out.
Great give away Dave. If I win, I will use it to raise further funds for Operation Yellow Ribbon of SJ and keep spreading the good PJ Karma!!
Here's hoping you also get your pick back from the other thread that we won't mention.

I got Id. Soldier Field July 11, 1995. I was in hs at the time and on the baseball team. We had a game that day and I had to call my coach to tell him I wasn't going to be able to make it to the game today. I was benched the rest of the summer but it was worth it hearing it live!

  • Off He Goes..I e of my favorite songs and just has a sentimental feeling to me. It was what I listened to as I departed back to the states after a trying journey overseas. Everytime I hear it, just reminds me how thankful I am to be safe and back home. Thanks for the chance!

Don't sell yourself short... this is an AWESOME giveaway.

Hard To Imagine is the song that hits me hardest. It is not many lyrics, and it is cryptic, but I can associate to them all for a number of reasons. The opening chords give me chills every time. I have yet to hear this song live. In April 2010 I decided to not listen to this song again until I hear it in concert. Since then I have seen them play 2 shows at MSG, the 2 PJ20 shows, one in Philly and one in Jersey, but no H2I. So it is going on three years(!!!) since I last heard this song. Yes, I am crazy .

The first time I realised how much PJ affected me was Given to fly Dublin 2000. I'd only scored a ticket from HMV a couple of days before and found myself seated Mike side 2 sections back from the stage on the old balcony. Looking at the crowd below me i welled up at "waves came crashing like a fist to the jaw" and for some reason fought them back through the rest of the song.

Other times have made me come close, Come Back at Berlin 2010, Smile Oslo last year, and any time Indifference ends a show "I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room". And I do...

gotta go with Release. my favorite version is Night 1 at PJ20. I hadn't heard that song live since my Dad had passed & a wave of emotion came over me. That song (along with Man of the Hour & Light Years) carried me through the mourning. Thanks for the chance!

    Release - for sure.
Can't believe I've never seen it live (yet).
Changed my whole view on the relationship (or lack thereof) that I had with my father, and makes me appreciate and treasure every day I have with him now.
Went from not talking for years, to talking on the phone every day now even though we're on opposite sides of the world. Best thing that ever happened!!!
I'll keep takin' punches until their will grows tired... Hey I won't change direction and I won't change my mind.......

Nothingman... have had the pleasure of hearing it a couple of times.
I'll go with the Camden 2003 version.
Just an emotional song...especially if you happen to be in a lonely spot, or just feel that way.

    Thanks Eldarion.

    Alive.

To this day, I never tire of hearing it. Still feel it's as empowering as it ever has been. They could cast aside the Even Flows, Jeremys, and any other song that fans tire of, but give me Alive every single time out.
