I gave up drinking milk long before I became vegan.
Drink almond milk. Better for you in pretty much every way.0 -

My ex-husband said that his family doctor when he was growing up always said "milk is for baby cows."
There is no reason to drink cow's milk or any other milk for that matter unless it is your momma's milk and you are an infant. The dairy industry destroys the environment, is cruel, and takes lots and lots of tax money (in the form of farm subsidies).

so what should we drink ... sounds like people here have the general consensus no milk, soda (diet or otherwise), so should we just drink water? I like water but can only drink so much ... so my question is serious, what should one drink?I have certain rules I live by ... My First Rule ... I don't believe anything the government tells me ... Even our small town locally owned grocery store (in the Midwest) sells it. And Wal-Mart too. And Kroger. And the health food stores. The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals. Ghandi0 -
And almond milk is a little more expensive. There are no tax payer dollars going to the almond milk makers. The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals. Ghandi0

who are you referring to? ... life expectancy is an interesting figure as it's hard to compare apples to apples here ... the most privileged royal a 100 years ago lived in a standard of living well below someone who is in poverty in north america ... we have less wars and we've also have advancements in medicine ... plus combine that with big pharma and some of the artificial life support systems ... it's no wonder we are living longer ...
at the same time incidents of pretty much every illness and disease is on its way up ...
would it shock you to know that life expectancy figures differ from canada to the US? ... why is it that canadians live on average 3 years longer? ... is it because, the FDA approves all kinds of shit down there? ... remember that the US allows for rgbst in their milk while in canada we do not ...0 -

Does almond milk taste almond-y? I'd be willing to try it but don't want it messing with the beauty that is Cap'n Crunch Peanut Butter.
Tried pure soy milk once and maybe it's that it was warm but NEVER AGAIN. It was nasty as hell.
Doesn't aspartame have that same weird aftertaste like saccharin? I don't touch that shit (not counting libations, I basically drink only water, tea and OJ).0 -

I have to agree with polaris here, lukin. The life expectancy in the US is beginning to drop and will continue to do so if we don't clean up our act.
Also, please consider that those of us who try to be educated and aware of unhealthy environmental and social conditions and work to make changes for the good that way are not trying to spread fear. Fear stifles creative life giving energy. Most people I know who work to make life better at least try to have courage. You say some are "fear mongers", I say most are concerned people with a compassion for life."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
I understand having an aversion to drinking milk but I'd make my own almond milk (or coconut milk or whatever you drink to avoid cows milk) because it has numerous additives that have been linked (not causation mind you but correlation) between serious illnesses (including cancer!) and these ingredients. Carragenean is in most commercial brands of these type of milks and this ingredient is extremely problematic for its links to cancer, just saying. Stick with water (and wine - hey it's been fermented!)Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

I agree, Hedonist, say milk- yuk! Have you tried vanilla flavored rice milk? It's great on cereal, with cookies, etc. and works as a wonderful substitute in pancakes and waffles and such. Also, I recently tried flax milk with vanilla and found it to be very tasty plus flax is rich in omega 3's.
And kudos, riotgrl, for making your own. Home made is always the best choice because you know what goes into your food and less packaging is used."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

I also use a similar recipe to make wrinkle cream - I'll let you know if that works
