When should we do a new count? A few months after the new album?

Well, I think it should be... Just kidding. A few months is a good idea.

Maybe after the new album has been out for a few months to give everyone a chance to let it settle in. I don't know if this is common, but sometimes when I first hear an album I don't care for it all that much but later find it grows on me. Riot Act was like that. I didn't care for it all all and now R.A. is one of my very favorites. The reverse is true sometimes as well- there are albums that don't hold up as well after a few listenings.

In the mean time I'd be happy to update the current tally as new scores come in from those who didn't vote yet (but save revisions until the new tally starts up). What do you say- yea or nay?

I don't really like Yield or Binaural outside of a few songs and LOVE Backspacer and Avocado... I kind of classify Pearl Jam as 3 different eras: Ten/Vs/Vitalogy is classic PJ; No Code/Yield/Binaural is Experimental PJ; Riot Act/Avocado/Backspacer is Mature PJ.

Athough this list can change daily, right now my top 9 are as follows:

    1. Ten -- my all time favorite album by anyone
    2. Backspacer -- most underrated album, every song is enjoyable, no filler or weird shit just to be different
    3. Avocado -- other than Wasted Reprise filler, every song is enjoyable... similar to Backspacer
    4. No Code -- This fluctuates the most, but right now I'm loving it
    5. Riot Act -- Used to love this more, still a great album
    6. Vitalogy -- half of it would put it at #2, the other half would put it at #9. Come on, Bugs? fucking shit
    7. Vs -- The most overrated album (still pretty good however)
    8. Yield -- weak album, like a handful of songs
    9. Binaural -- Yield/Binaural could have been released as a single album if they scrapped a bunch of the weaker songs (majority of this album)

Less than 4 months later my Top 9 is currently:
    1. Ten =
    2. No Code +2
    3. Vitalogy +3
    4. Backspacer -2
    5. Vs. +2 ---FINALLY coming around to this album! only took 20 years
    6. Avocado -3
    7. Riot Act -2
    8. Yield =
    9. Binaural =

Still not much love for Yield/Binaural.... but I've really gotten back into the early to mid years lately and the later stuff is a little worn out from too much listening.

I LITERALLY just updated it with many changes (which you ignored).... but I see you put Ten at #6 on your list, so you're right, you probably do have more in common with Osama than with me. :fp:

    1. VS (not even close - every song is awesome with the exception of Rats)

    2. Ten (Release & Porch are my favorites)

    3. Vitalogy (Corduroy in my all time top 5)

    4. Yield (Given to Fly & In Hiding are my highlights)

    5. Backspacer (really love Just Breathe & Unthought Known)

    6. No Code (Present Tense, Hail Hail, & Smile all good)

    7. Avocado (Severed Hand & World Wide Suicide stand out)

    8. Riot Act (the only reason it gets #8 is because of Thumbing My Way. I really hate Bushleager & Green Disease irritates me)

    9. Binaural (not a particular fan of ANYTHING on this album)

Maybe one of the things that is so appealing about Pearl Jam is that the music appeals to so many different people in so many different ways. Almost no (if any) two lists ranking the albums are the same and many differ greatly. To me, that says something wonderful about the band and the music.

Yes, STAYSEA! It will be interesting to see how the new poll turns out. And it will be VERY interesting to see what the boys are cooking up on the new LP!

Easy to pick top 3, but thereafter is hard except for the last. I love BS but it is not in the current top 8. But as callen said lost dogs should have a.spot. For me, top 5.

    Wind this thing up.
