My kids will definitely be going to private schools.
but what is you reason for definitely sending your kids to private school?????Is it because all the government schools there are no good?
It all comes down to whats the best available. For us it just so happens that the Govt; schools are the better schools.....but I know that's not the case everywhere.0 -

Now this computer game debate is something I've really looked into over the years, being a Mum and all
This pretty much summerises most of the info I've read and been told:
Bye everyone..... and they will refer to their gaming box as "Myyyy Precious!"
i jest!!0 -
ZiggyStar wrote:If that is the case, I find that comment very sad....
Self-education should never be classed as a waste of time....
Good on you for having your opinion, I guess.....but it doesn't mean it's right....it might be for you....but not necessarily for all.0 -

I'm purely basing my thoughts on Townsville schools. I went to the second biggest public high school in Townsville. It's apparently really crap and rough now, as are some of the other big public schools. It was a bit rough when I was there but I hung around people who were quite smart and not rough or like that at all....I was in all the top group of classes (based on results) so didn't really see much of the rough stuff.
I would send my child to Townsville Grammar or Cathedral (Anglican school) - both private. There was a "How Did Your School Compare?" thing in the paper the other week about which schools had the greatest number of students with the different OP scores etc, which had better marks in different subject groups etc. Those two private schools did better than all the public schools.★ 1995 - Brisbane ★ 1998 - Brisbane ★ 2003 - Brisbane ★ 2006 - Brisbane ★

I suggest (just suggest)you wait until you actually have school age kids. These school ratings can change all the time as it all depends on what teachers they get there. It amazes me at how it changes here every few years. Some schools that are up the top for years can plummit to the bottom very quickly, if they get the wrong teachers in.

That I believe in self-education? In bettering oneself? That's narrow minded?
And yes, I'm just putting my opinion across....and I agree that it's not right for everyone...
It's obvious after today that I've grown up differently and have a *very* different view on life than most of you here....I suppose we should all leave it at that and drop the subject.★ 1995 - Brisbane ★ 1998 - Brisbane ★ 2003 - Brisbane ★ 2006 - Brisbane ★

Of course I'd keep looking at the results etc....but I know for a fact that since I've been at school which is 1993, those two schools have out-performed my old school each time -- which was one of the better public schools in Townsville. The newspaper prints an article each year about each school etc.
But if those results changed, of course I'd change my mind and look at the other options.★ 1995 - Brisbane ★ 1998 - Brisbane ★ 2003 - Brisbane ★ 2006 - Brisbane ★

We'd always planned to send the kids to the highschool in the next town, which was in the top 3 highschools in the state for yeeeears......but it's really gone down in the last 2-3 years. Hence - we're moving0 -
it's also narrow minded of you to think that people who enjoy games don't also do the things you suggested either.condescending and sarcastic since 19800

WHEN did I say that ANY of you do NOTHING but play games?
I actually asked have you ever THOUGHT of spending that time doing something else? Mainly because I wondered the other day (as I explained earlier) what my whinging, 30 year old, live at home with mum and dad friend would (or could) have done if he hadn't used so much of his time on activities that after 10 year haven't really got him anywhere....with xbox games being a major activity during this period.
In NO WAY did I say that any of you "haven't got anywhere because of playing games" and nor do I think think that "people who enjoy games don't also do the things I suggested either". Why are you all jumping down my throat? I asked you guys because you're the only other people I know who play games lots!
I simply asked "Have you ever thought about putting all that time you spend playing games into something else?" If you knitted, I'd probably ask whether you had ever thought about doing something else besides knitting for 10 years!
Fucking hell. This is ridiculous! Have you ever "thought" about it....I didn't say that you all should stop playing games. FUCK!!★ 1995 - Brisbane ★ 1998 - Brisbane ★ 2003 - Brisbane ★ 2006 - Brisbane ★

Have you ever thought about putting all that time you spend playing games into something else? Eg learning a language, writing a book, exercising, volunteering, learning something etc? Do you feel guilty sitting there for a whole weekend or day or whatever doing nothing but playing games?
As I get older, I realise the importance of time and how I don't want to waste copious amounts of it watching tv, sleeping, stuffing around etc....that's what got me wondering about this.
I understand relaxing etc...but imagine what you'd achieve with that time if you were doing something different and more productive?
And I'm quoting this so people can refresh what I said earlier.★ 1995 - Brisbane ★ 1998 - Brisbane ★ 2003 - Brisbane ★ 2006 - Brisbane ★

you didn't and i didn't say you did either.
and to answer your question no not really.
i thought about learning Italian after reading a john grisham which i can't remember the name of, but they hide a guy in some small italian village.
but as for the other stuff, i've heard that Volunteers don't even get paid???
and i really don't spend alot of time gaming, it wouldn't be more then 2 hours a weekcondescending and sarcastic since 19800 -
