    On a not so serious (but sorta) note, I was talking to my brother the other day about doing a Phd about way people use the word 'like'. He said it could be done but Id probably need to expand it a little and focus more on the speech side of things eg the use of the word 'um' as well

    Is it a speech impediment, a bad habit, a nervous trait or maybe just copycat tatics coz the Olsen sisters say it?

    Thinks Id better get back to my studies!!!

    'um' and 'like' should definitely be in different categories :D early phone call? must have been special news :eek:

    Ya reckon? I wont ask why coz it'll end up taking 25 pages. I know they both mean different but there usage is like similar.

    Ill just let you all know when its completed. Maybe when home life starts failing or I go thru divorce

    i can see 'um' as a nervous trait, perhaps habit? but 'like' - that's definitely habit, F*CKING ANNOYING one at that ;)

    so 'like' was from the valley girl in the 80s? a la clueless.. what if these people just have a limited vocab :eek:

    'um' is a filler word, and is supposed to make people listen to your more intently, rather than jump in on the conversation.. i'd like someone to count the times i say 'um' in my speeches :D

    So did everyone read Stone's interview on the Bonnaroo site? Someone posted it on The Porch. Everytime I see the word Bonnaroo I think it's something Aussie. :)
