I know.. but the political climate is a lot more volatile than it was in 1980 with 9/11, terrorism and Bush etc... and Ed is becoming fairly well known for his anti-Bush stance. I know PJ don't have the same exposure as the Beatles did but it still worries me a bit...Sydney, Australia - March 12, 1998; Sydney, Australia - February 14, 2003; Sydney, Australia - November 8, 2006; Sydney, Australia - November 25, 2006; Brisbane, Australia - November, 2009; Gold Coast, Australia - January, 2014, Gold Coast, Australia - November 20240 -
Today is a lot different to back then. Lennon was a Worldwide known figure for stepping out and talking up, and literally doing strange, newsworthy things to get his point across. Although Ed does a lot of this, I dont think it is to the extreme that Lennon did it. And there are also a shitload of peeps today who speak out and its more accepted now then it was back then... i cant see anyone coming under fire for what they are doing.
I can see Bush being you know what... but he is on a different sort of "Love Hate" level with the people. People Blame him for things... they believe he is the reason for all these bad things happening, hence, the more chance he has of being you know what. People dont see Ed as a reason these things have happened, he is simply sspeaking out against them.
Back in the Lennon days, he was such a big voice, reaching similar audiences that Bush does (pretty much worlwide) and back then, there was a lot of people who were with Lennon, but there was, i think , more people who thought he was just a Hippie and that he should shut up and let conformity be the only way.
Im gonna shut up now cos this topic is was over my head for a Sunday!!

I know Lennon had or was about to release Double Fantasy but I thought he was leading a quieter lifestyle and wasnt really being outspoken about any issues at the time or the years leading up to his death.....
I remember I was working when I heard he had died...........It was horrible u just didnt want to believe that it was true......u wanted it to be a huge mistake.....very tragic.......I hope Mark Chapman is never released from jail..0 -

but didn't the dude who killed lennon kill him cause he loved him???condescending and sarcastic since 19800 -
I disagree about the quiter lifestyle...
While the highlights of Lennon's career with the Beatles is well known, Lennon is less remembered for his political activism and dedication to peace. Lennon wrote some of the most famous songs of the anti-war movement: "Give Peace A Chance", "Imagine" and "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)". He sang at political protests against the Vietnam War, in support of the radical John Sinclair and even for the prisoners of Attica. He and Yoko made international headlines simply by lying in bed as part of their Bed-In For Peace.
The U.S. government saw Lennon as such a serious threat that President Nixon attempted to have him deported in 1972. In addition the FBI closely monitored his actions and amassed a file on Lennon of over 400 pages.

he was gonna hold a massive concert around the time of the elction and get all the young fans to vote against Nixon in order to prevent the war..
Its all a great big mystery... I still think he was assassinated on Nixons orders...
EDIT : he released Double Fantasy and won a Grammy for it that year.he who forgets will be destined to remember0 -

I don't think I believe that.. It's kind of the same as saying Marilyn Monroe was murdered because of her association with Kennedy, and Princess Diana was killed because of her association with Dodi Al Fayed.Sydney, Australia - March 12, 1998; Sydney, Australia - February 14, 2003; Sydney, Australia - November 8, 2006; Sydney, Australia - November 25, 2006; Brisbane, Australia - November, 2009; Gold Coast, Australia - January, 2014, Gold Coast, Australia - November 20240 -

How lucky are you going to see JBT and in such a perfect spot, too. I was watching a replay of them at Live Earth yesterday....gee they were just brilliant - love them....wish they'd come back to Pinjarra (the next town from us where John is from) and play at the local.
Our oldest son - Steven (yes our sons name is Steven Gordon
) went and saw the Simmo's movie yesterday and loved it too.
Re; Glenn.....I'm not going too good
I'd hoped it would get easier, but it's just getting harder. Had a teary week and had a really down day yesterday. Glenn's the same and I ended up phoning him last night and he's asking his boss today if he can come home for a few days. I'm really missing his big bear hugs and kisses and although he sends me lot's in texts every day, X's and O's are just not the same....I'm so pathetic......I really wanted to be strong, but I just aint. 0 -

im sorry to hear that you're all down. it must be hard with the kids all by yourself too... i really hope that he can come back for a few days to see you... i think the worst part is going to bed alone everynight... that part does get easier... but it does take a while. november really will be so great for you guys.
re JB in pinjarrah... yeah i used to watch him all the time out there - i grew up near serpentine/mundajong so it wasnt too far to go... LOVED seeing him at Fairbridge and Bridgetown too... back when the festivals were for families and not an expensive drunken binge-fest... when it was actually about the music.I'd rather be with an animal.0 -
Hey, I went to a party last night... drank light beer and didn't get any hives... Yaaay!
