Want to give Oscar the benefit of the doubt and also thought about getting up groggy and stumbling to bathroom to take a wiz. But the more I think about it…once he heard the noise and consciously picked up his gun, took it off safety, his heart had to be pumping and he wasn’t groggy anymore.

He couldn't have been that groggy as he had gotten up, went to his open sliding doors onto his balcony to bring a fan in. He then closed the doors and drew the curtains. Then, allegedly, he heard a noise coming from the bathroom and, on his way, got his gun (which was underneath his bed) whilst shouting at the 'intruder' in the bathroom to get out of the house and shouting for Reeva to call the police. All this before getting to the bathroom and the toilet. Sounds like someone quite aware to me. Another thought... if he is so paranoid about intruders, etc. why would he sleep with the balcony doors open?

Also, should all this be true and should Reeva had been the person on the toilet taking a leak, surely she would have said something....

Shady all of this, very shady.

I was watching a South Park rerun last night ... Oscar should have tried to pin this on "some Puerto Rican guy".

If he walks, South Africa is officially giving Florida a run for the money.

Sorry, but nothing can give Florida a run for the (it's) money. :)

There's so much that doesn't make sense about the whole scenario - at least from what I've read so far.

SpinTheWishlist - your edit? That hadn't even occurred to me. Horrific.

redrock and Idris make good points (as usual :) ) respectively in the inconstencies and the mindset of those who live in SA.

Idris, I'm so sorry for what your sister went through - unimaginable.

(PS...anyone else get a chuckle out of calling a Viagra-like herbal remedy "muscle recovery"?)

It's not "Russel the One Eyed Muscle" for nothing.

    that's funny, a one-eyed muscle hah.

but in regard to this viagra-like substance it occurred to me that if he needed this type of 'boost' he may have been arguing with reeva about competency and we can assume that a man in such a situation might need to overcompensate for his 'embarrassment'. maybe she said things she shouldn't have and... well you can guess the rest.

if it were true it would be tragic.

That's what I thought ... then I saw a clip this morning where South African police tied a man to the back of a van and then drove off with him draging behind. He was later found dead.

His crime was parking his taxi on the wrong side of the street.

    :(

Anyone else watch the 20/20 show about him tonight? .... interesting. The way they presented it leaves me neutral maybe. But I think he could get off.... minus the attitude of officials there. They seem convinced.

I felt the same way when they aired an 'overview' program about him here in aus recently.
edit- i hope no-one forgets that irrespective of premeditation or not, the fact remains he opened fire carelessly and killed an innocent woman. there must be some accountability, no ?

I don't agree with the premise and actually find it insulting.

I'm curious on your take...is the "better than that" view acceptable? Where do character and accountability enter?

(please know I'm not coming at you personally)

It would seem that his disability has already been a factor in his bail hearing and consequent release.

No. But we're talking about South Africa here, and he's rich and white.... are we SURE it's about his disability? :corn:

i was referring to the previous link you put up which leads nowhere, it says the page is not found, so if this is that blog then yes (& thank you). i see i misunderstood in thinking it was written by him and it goes into his disability -vs- character. i didn't read it all, i don't expect people are somehow more saintly cause they're disabled. that's ridiculous. since when did 'my legs made me do it' make sense, lol lol

    it happens.
    i've experienced it firsthand.

people can look at you differently when you have a disability.

oh i'm sure they do. bigots are everywhere, i used to get stared at as a kid (and even verbally insulted) for being a migrant lol. those things play havoc with your mind over the years but you have to find a balance, you don't go out and kill someone.

I really do not think that his disability is much of a factor honestly. I think it's his fame, his money, and the color of his skin that is being judged way WAY more than his disability.... he is actually generally viewed as incredibly able. And it's not like he's coming into court in a wheelchair or with crutches. No one can even tell his disabled unless he wears shorts. I just don't think that is really much of a factor in this case in reality.

i tend to agree. he is an influential member of white society and has up until now put SA in a good light. whether they continue to uphold him or not remains to be seen. this has nothing to do with guilt or culpability it's more about effect of end result.
