Just a quick update for you guys before leaving for Milan.

    It was AWESOME!!!!

The weather was horrible for the past two days with torrential rains and thunderstorms. Thankfully, the rain stopped for My Morning Jacket (I quite enjoyed their show and also discovered I knew one of their songs) but as soon as their set ended, the rain started again becoming more and more persistent. Basically, it was totally pouring down!! But at around 9.15/9.20 the first notes of Release. I LOVE LOVE that song! I soon forgot being soaked from the rain... :D

So, some personal highlights in totally random order:
    - The whole section around me singing along to Gone from beginning to end;
    - Seeing the crowds in the Arena all in colourful raincoats singing along;
    - Eddie speaking in Italian. He started by asking people to not hurt one another, and that was more important than music, and even wine!
    - Eddie's still in Italian saying that the media and press always get things wrong, but this time what an Italian newspaper said about Italy being their second country (their home away from home) was true! :)
    - Especially, Eddie's speech about September 15th marking the passing of a very good friend of his, Johnny Ramone, and then saying he spoke to his wife the evening before who sent her greeting to all their Italian fans and then launching into Come Back. And after that, I Believe in Miracles!!
    - BLOOD!!! which is a recent descovery for me, as I never got into it first time around but now love. It was fantastic!! I was rocking out so much!! Singing my lungs out and dancing! Great set closer!
    - I also loved Love Boat Captain, another of my recent favourites I didn't get into first time around. What was also nice was the applause at the end of the song for those words.
    - Not for You!!
-Eddie climbing up to the gradinate first on the left and then all the way to the right.
    - Eddie doing the mirrored light effect with his guitar across the whole crowd in the arena.
    - Stone smiling and grooving!!
    - Hearing Matt's drum solo at the end of Even Flow
    - Mike's solos with the guitar behind his back!
    - Porch! Corduroy! Even Given To Fly, which is a song I never really got into
    - Loved hearing RITFW live for my first time!!! Always heard it on bootlegs so far. I was happy!!!
    - Oh, also, when Once was finishing I said Alive, hoping for Mamasan. Then a guy next to me... hugged me and complimented me on my intuition! :D But, alas, no Footsteps. Still Alive, was so rocking. I never get tired of it!!!
    - Last but definitely not least.... My Verona!!! It was hilarious. I couldn't believe when I first heard the unmistakable My Sharona opening chords, and then Eddie going My Verona, hee hee hee! it was hilarious! :D The boys were having a good time!

Also, it was great to finally meet, albeit briefly, as I needed to drive back home, all my fellow Jammers! I'll see you guys later! :)

    Milan, here I come!!!!!

    :D:D:D

Aww lgt... what a night!!!!! Wish I could have been there! Looks like Ed has been worried a bit about the crowds... HH held her phone up for me to hear Come Back (love the song) and I had tears to my eyes. Even on the phone you could hear what a great show it was!!! Thanks for posting!

That's great! I am glad you got to hear it. I love that song too! Last night was really special, the Arena is really a memorable venue but the heavy rain turned out to had an invigorating effect on both band and crowd! Hope all the coloured raincoats will be shown on the dvd! Eddie also said, in his opening greeting speech, that we looked beautiful when wet!! :D But it was really a beautiful effect.

I really have to leave now. Wouldn't want to miss the train to Milan!!

    Ciaooooooooo :)

Some more fans from Zagreb who did the Verona experience (bok djerdap, cu in zagreb! :))
Verona - an amazing concert, a great setlist, incredible crowd, rain which poured, making the experience even more beautiful (if at all possible), guys playing their heads off, the crowd singing like crazy, overall, PERFECT!
We especially loved what Ed did with his tambourines! One ended up in the hands of a young pregnant lady and the other one he threw right in the hands of a disabled young girl in a wheelchair. We saw that one really well because we were just a couple rows behind her - he came right up to the edge of the stage, pointed his finger at her to show that the tambourine was for her, gave her an amazing smile and threw the tambourine to her! We all know that Ed is a great person, but this was truly beautiful!
So, Bologna and Verona down, Vienna and Zagreb to go! Sooooooooo, can't wait!
  • Also a member of Team Verona&Zagreb :D

although a friend of mine wants me to come to Prag and Berlin as well....
    so tempting....

    About the Show:

It was really a experience. First i was SOOOO pissed because of the rain, and my crappy rain jacket (and at those idiots selling those "plastic bags" for 5€....)
but when My Morning Jacket started it was all about the music. They did pretty well. but of course there was more to come.....
Pearl Jam were awesome that night. At Release you could really feal that Eddie's voice was in great shape that evening. Also the other band members played their heart out for us wet people out there....
So CU in Zagreb! (or Prag...... ;) )

  • Wow, what a fucking concert, what a fucking weekend :) . I'm still on a high and I really shouldn't be cos I'm back to work and it's all over :D but... it happened. What an amazing venue - it was great earlier in the day sitting in a bar across the road listening to the soundcheck and all the crowds cheering. I was in such a great mood all day that even when the rain started I kinda thought... BRILLIANT!!!!!!!! :D and even though I had a poncho, I just wanted to go out and dance in it. The band were in fine form, Eddies voice was amazing and he seemed to be loving the whole thing. Release... wow, what a fantastic opener. And the emphasis on 'in the rain' was lovely. Ahhhhhh... if only I could put it all into words. But just some advice, wearing shorts and flipflops is NOT very practical in a thunderstorm :D

Verona is a beatiful city. It's also very wet. And there are many people selling plastic bags for 5 euros a pop who must have made a fortune off of us ill prepared PJ fans!

I was at the top of the Arena, on the stone steps, opposite tyhe stage. Unlike all those people in seats, we actually stood out in the rain instead of hiding inside! DEDICATION!

So I was standing on some stone steps. In the rain. In a plastic bag. Being repeatedly poked in the head by someones umbrella next to me. All the time at the back of my mind I was thinking "They're going to cancel". We could see a mass of people at the side of the stage just waiting for the rain to stop, and eventually it did. A man came out and made an announcement, which someone translated as "They're going to play!". To say I was relieved was an understatement. So My Morning Jacket came out, and played a shorter set than usual, which was fine as I was pretty cranky by that point.

All my worries left me when Pearl Jam took to the stage. All this tour, at the shows i've been to, i've been wanting to hear release as an opener. When they started to play it, I couldn't quite believe it. I honestly don't think i've ever been so happy. Ever. They could have played anything after that and I would have been happy. As it was, we got a pretty good setlist (sadly none of the songs we were so excited to listen to being soundchecked were played: MFC, Immortality, U, Education...I can't remember any others!).

Overall, once Pearl Jam came out, I had an amazing time. From where I was, the crowd seemed a bit uninterested. Maybe it was the rain, maybe it was the fact that if you moved on one of these stone steps, you'd fall and die, maybe it was the fact that the floor was seated, or maybe it was just my imagination! All that matters is I had an awesome time, and I'm sure everyone else did too.

    My Verona!

MFC woulda been sweet!!!! I didn't think they soundchecked education? They did parachutes too which woulda been lovely too. We'd a pretty good crowd around us. An American girl beside me kept jumping up and down and splashing my legs :D . I said it to her joking cos she was kinda laughing at my bare legs and flipflops earlier... and then she was like 'oh I'm really really sorry, I forgot' and stopped jumping. I told her I was only messing but she still stopped jumping and I felt kinda bad :o . She's probably in another forum somewhere giving out about the Irish girl beside her who told her to stop having fun! :(

I'm pretty sure they did soundcheck education. We were sitting in Zac's listening intently and trying to figure out what they were playing. I could be wrong though!

I know, the lucky bastards! :o Ok, well we were closer than Zacs and could hear perfectly :D but I'm probably completely wrong, lol. They soundchecked a lot of songs in Verona.

And yes, they did soundcheck a lot, though I was pleased to be spared parachutes. I heard it at Paris and I don't ever want to hear it again!

Just not a fan of the song. I think they enjoyed all the cheers that went up after every song had finished! That was awesome. All of those people walking round the area not knowing what they were hearing, they really don't know how lucky they are!

Lol, I'm not so sure. I met a lovely elderly English couple yesterday while I was at Zacs just waiting to go to the airport. They had been told it was a rock opera :D when they asked what was going on cos they were in Zacs while the concert was on and could hear it. I asked them how it sounded and he said he had cotton wool in his ears :D . They were really funny! She was a bit more polite about it, lol.

How rude! I remember thinking while standing on the steps in the rain before MMJ that there's no way those Opera fans would be here in these conditions!

No, I think they kinda liked us. Well she seemed a bit of a closet rocker anyway! I didn't really talk to many of the others so I dunno if they liked us so much but they never once complained about any of our antics or anything.
