I agree!!! I'm hoping for a setlist like Sydney 1 for Brisbane 2 because I'm taking my 16 year old niece and she mainly knows all the popular songs -- ten, vs etc (and we also have shit seats). But for Brisbane 1, I'll probably be in the first couple of rows and I'd love a setlist like Sydney 2!!! Oh shit yeah!!!
OMG... Second show blew the first one away totally.... Better Audience Participation by far, and I am hoping this shows on the Encore Break Tracks on the Boots.
Porch Jam session was unbelievable....
Started off as "Slow Porch Version" for a couple of lines, then belted straight into it.
I liked Mikes solo in last nights even flow better.
Set was shorter than last night
A few rarer tracks in the set list was cool... Great to sing along to Down while stunned mullets sat around me
Not as much acoustic as last night (seems they are pulling out the acoustics for a few tracks for the first encore.)
And with that Pearl Jam leave Sydney... With U2 and hopefully the release of the bootlegs to keep me entertained between now and the 18th.
Just to confirm earlier posts:
There are several poster sets available in the merch tent.
There are 2 generic posters (with all the tour dates for about $10 each) These have been available on both nights.
There is a special set (limited edition one for each show.)
If you are going to multiple shows you will want to get them each night, and get in early.
(I missed out on king kong and centrepoint :( so I havent bothered with the others)

Hey yall just got back from the show. I think my left ear is bleeding. Anyway it was a really good one. Goto say dont think the crowd had much idea about the "rarer" songs. But there was alot of good stuff. The band seemed to be having fun. Pulled out some really good ones. Ed did the U2 cover and i was sure Bono was going to come out sometime but alas he didnt. We can always dream. A few repeats from last night but still awesome. I think i could hear Alive every show and never get sick of it. Some No Code songs in there which was wicked cause thats the greatest album. My own two hands tag was awesome and the crowd got into that. Some nice long jam sessions too. IT was awesome to hear Baba been waiting for that one for a while. And closing on indiference was very nice. My legs are burning.

Safely home after Sydney Night 2. If ever there needed to be any confirmation that the energy and feedback from the crowd affects the performance of a band on stage, then this show is it.
Ill split it into two sections; The show itself, then the slightly less positive (i.e. negative) points to come out from tonights concert.
It was barely 8:50 when Master/Slave filtered through the speakers, which caught many off guard. This started a mad scramble down stairs as fans took their seats.
Tonights setlist could only be described as EPIC!! From the unexpected yet perfectly fit opener DTE, to the crowd pleasing Hail Hail, the band basically picked up where they left off - fucking awesomely (is that a word???)
We then got hit with the new stuff, and with Life Wasted followed by WWS, there was the possibility of running through the cd like Europe got, but that thought was quickly ended when Corduroy got the crowd on their feet.
This was where Ed made his first speech "I dont know if there is an abundance of security guards here tonight, but feel free to move around. It feels like a church in here."
The band then ripped out Unemployable, then got the crowd onside with Dissident, Small Town and the crowd highlight Even Flow, again complete with a Matt Cameron drum solo. This has given EF a new beginning, and I can never get tired seeing this song live!
Ed then next spoke about the war, and put it beautifully "No matter what side you are on, we pray that the troops come home safely." (or along those lines) which led into Army Reserve, which was at the standard we have come to know and love
SAD!!! "This is one we call a Lost Dog." Awesome song, intense, and my first time hearing it live and I wasnt disappointed!! A highlight for me.
Follow that up with a fast, aggressive version of Whipping, straight into Not For You/Modern Girl and the hauntingly beautiful Present Tense, and who have the makings of one hell of a setlist! The jam at the end of Present Tense was jaw-dropping, absolutely unreal!!!!
To finish set 1, another highlight, Porch with the slow intro, played by Ed. The guitar was put away after the first verse as Ed powered through to the instrumental. What followed was a powerful jam session, with Ed grabbing his guitar midway through to join in. Think the Jam session from Unplugged, combined with the jam from the New Years Eve 1992 CD from the 10C, and you have probably the best Jam ever!!!! It was here where Ed tried the crowd interaction as is done with Daughter, but personally the speed and volume of the song made crowd participation near impossible. Ed resorted to raising his guitar over his head and shining the reflection around the arena to fire up the crowd. It must have worked because the noise from the crowd during the encore break was deafening, even more so than last night.
A beautiful acoustic set followed, with Low Light a highlight (see what I did there...), and Come Back dedicated to a mate of Ed's who just lost someone close to him. (Personally I think it was dedicated to K-Fed now that Brittney divorced him, but thats just my opinion hehe)
The crowd woke back up as Daughter filled the room, with a fantastic clap-along during "The shades go down." The Ed asked "Would you like to sing with me, ill give you a part" then asked the crowd to sing 'With My own 2 hands." Done pretty well, very well received.
To finish the first encore, Ed continued to cater for those who hadnt bought an album since Vitalogy (not meant to be hurtful, just having a laugh...) by ripping out Alive, and obviously a highlight for the majority of fans as we almost lifted the roof clean off the place!!!
As Ed balanced himself on the mic stand, inches off the ground, the stand finally gave way, sending Ed sprawling to the stage (maybe slightly over dramatic) and leaving one bent mic stand.
During the jam, Ed ran (skipped??) to each side of the stage, sticking his finger up at the fans and smiling. To me it felt like 'It takes Daughter and Alive to get you people up???' but that is just what my thoughts were, and hopefully I couldnt be further from the truth.
Two guys got removed from the floor after daring to mosh in between the front block section of seats and their own front row seats of the second section. A shame really, as they werent bumping into anyone, they werent throwing shit in the air or causing trouble for other fans, but as usual, the guards feel like they have to make their prescence known and fuck it up for some people.
The final encore saw Blood played with the intensity that a song like this demands. Then the house lights came on as Baba O'Riley started, a major highlight for me!! And just when that appeared it, Stone began Indifference, Jeff setting the bass pace, and Matt tapping away on the kit.
A sensational set, many highlights, a very loud crowd in between songs (more following) and the band proved once again that they are not a spent force by any stretch of the imagination...
Now for the negatives...
A dead crowd early on, highlighted by that comment earlier about moving around and not being in church. The front section in an exception, with much movement, jumping, hand raising, general expected behaviour.
The new songs were poorly received, it appeared that the majority of people didnt know them, and if they did, there was no way of telling.
After returning from the first encore, Ed stated "We've been having an argument out back... seeing whether tonights crowd was better than last night... (cheering from audience)... " then came this pearler, which pretty much summed it up for me personally " i tried to stick up for you." Up until this point, Tuesday nights crowd shat all over tonight. Tonight we (the crowd) were loud between songs, but had no fucking idea of anything remotely new.
The point was already mentioned re the fingers during Alive, and now for Baba.
An intro that sends my body jumping into the air, a cover that I truly love hearing live. Me and pobably only a thousand other people. When it came to our time to sing, it just cam down to people having no idea what the song was! Even pleading from Ed to sing louder fell on deaf ears, as the majority of the crowd looked on blankly.
As I stated at the start, if ever we needed an example of how the bands feed off the energy of the crowd, tonight is the show. Ed appeared frustrated, while Mike did his best to pump up his side of the crowd (which I have to say were awesome, both on the floor and that whole corner in the stands, good job)
In summary, tonight was absolutely awesome, the setlist kicked serious arse, the boys are still in form, but the crowd left alot to be desired...
Off to brisbane peeps!!!!
(Fuck this takes long to type, might have to try a shorter version next time)
Stars walk the red carpet because they're famous - I walk the toilet paper because im the shit.
man I feared that aussie crowds sucked and its right! why do we suck so much compared to europe and america! we dont move or sing! And we dont know a who classic....we suck... perfect set though.

An open apology to Pearl Jam from a Sydney PJ Die Hard.
I love Pearl Jam and I have said many times that a PJ show is the closest thing I get to religion. I have seen them nine times, in a total of three countries on two continents. Each time up till now has been more memorable than the last.
The set list will be talked about again and again. While I can’t remember it all now, my personal highlights were DTE to open (I love this song live), Whipping and Not For you in the middle of the first set, Army Reserve, a blistering Porch to close the first set. And of course, Baba O’Riley in the second encore…
The band played great and I thank them for trying so hard -- because the crowd was terrible. There were die hards out there and they were trying to get it going, but to now avail. Maybe it was because there were no 10 Club tickets for this show, so there wasn’t a block of die hards up front (I feel they fuel a good show). But there was no one interacting, no getting into it except for Alive and Even Flow. 4 songs into the first set Eddie said something along the lines of “I have to ask an important question… How you going? Because you are allowed to express yourself and get into it, people are acting like it is church out there”. Even during DTE to start, no one moved, no one danced, or sang along, or clapped, or anything. You could see the frustration on the bands face, as they anger grew through the set. But they played on and finished it out and played well.
To let you know how bad it was… during Baba O’ no one knew the words “Don’t Cry...” they were supposed to sing, leading Eddie to say “Come On!”.
Thanks PJ for playing out the set, despite the terrible crowd. By far the worst I have ever seen at a PJ show (after 10 months in Sydney, this city may have the worst rock crowds in the world). And sorry from the die hards. We were out there trying. And we still care. Please bring it again for the 3rd show, we will be there.

yikes! sounds like they may have been better off playing to 3/4 full houses in the US south than in aus where there's a lack of enthusiasm about the band.
then again...i suspect the reason PJ goes there is so ed can surf. ;o)
Hopefully the preset will be available before too long. If you know how to decode OMA (minidisc) files, let me know. I taped it. Very clear, it is, just don't know how to convert it.
OMG... Second show blew the first one away totally.... Better Audience Participation by far, and I am hoping this shows on the Encore Break Tracks on the Boots.
You are the only one who seems to think better audience participation. Fair enough, if that's your impression, but where were your seats? I looked down from the tiers, and the crowd was ordinary, right from the first row.
i too enjoyed the energy of last night and egerly(?) awaited tonight, secretly knowing we could not live up to tuesdays energy- but still hoping. i reckon- and this is just me, that if tonights set list was last nights, where tues was filled more with REAL fans (is that rude?), than tonights lets go see pearl jam crowd, the energy levels may have been maintained. i agree- after having witnessed it myself many times- you want a good pearl jam show you gotta give as well TO recieve, and while they went off like the true masters they are, it felt in many places, that they were doin the show to make sure we got our monies worth. i was in section twelve last night and tonight, down by stones side of the stage, last night was a bump and grind bounce off the guys next to you cheer for every song that came on from start to finish try and sing louder than the next guy competition, tonight one row closer, the woman next to me kept complaining- from something like the third song in mind you- that they had'nt played betterman, two extra large kiwis in front of me could have well been dead from the amount of movement coming from them and some dick weed behind me kept yelling about not really listening to anything pearl jam had put out in the last ten years! all i could think was, last night i could not hear any thing but the band the fans singing and the screaming between songs. i hate sydney, its full of try hard dance music pill popping ice smoking wanna be posures, but going there was the only way to see the greatest rock band of my generation-and the way things are going- ever to be. please don't give up on us yet PJ see you guys next saturday!
P.S life wasted for me was the high light, thank you guys, you rip the shit!

In the states, all the shows have a 10c allocation, and I'm sure they don't have something as shitty as Superdome to play in.
Nice work on dealing with Coppel, Curtis Management.

you are not wrong the first row was half EMPTY, and i'm a half full kinda guy!
Wow, after reading some of the reviews from the show and particularily the audience, I'm really surprised. Seriously, I've thought about this before, who goes to a PJ jam without knowing the words to the songs, or is unfamailar with the new songs? I've always had a displeasure being next to a person at a show who is totally clueless to a song or keeps screaming out for something from "Ten". Yes, it's a free world, but I think PJ is a band that is beyond the stage of just "going to the show to be cool". This show is very apparent that the band, especially Ed is aware of the mood and relies of us the fans to participate. I think Sydney has seen it's last PJ show for awhile, and who would blame the band for it.

Nah no servered hand. Ah the cover was something....if my bro was there he would know in a heartbeat he is a massive fan. Sorry!
It was the "improv" before small town.
Ah, probably a Sort of Homecoming. He played that once before Small Town- I think the show Bono sang RITFW with them.

Please bring it again for the 3rd show, we will be there.
then again...i suspect the reason PJ goes there is so ed can surf. ;o)
Hopefully the preset will be available before too long. If you know how to decode OMA (minidisc) files, let me know. I taped it. Very clear, it is, just don't know how to convert it.
P.S life wasted for me was the high light, thank you guys, you rip the shit!
Nice work on dealing with Coppel, Curtis Management.
