LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Police say a paparazzo was hit by a car and killed after taking photos of Justin Bieber's Ferrari sports car in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles police Officer James Stoughton says the man died at a hospital Tuesday evening. Stoughton says Bieber was not in the car at the time.
Sgt. Rudy Lopez told the Los Angeles Times newspaper that the pop star's friend was driving the car when it was pulled over for a traffic stop. It was parked on a busy street when the photographer arrived.
Police say the man was struck by a car as he returned to his own car.
Stoughton says no charges are expected against the motorist who hit the man.
A call to a Bieber publicist was not immediately returned.

Stupid move.
These folks hang around in various areas of my immediate neighborhood, milling about, blocking paths, cameras in hand, driving like blooming idiots - they remind me of animals going in for the kill.
And for what? For the people who eat that shit up and are willing to pay to do so.
I know, i know... celebrity.. public figure, blah-blah-blah... but, i tell you, seeing what they do... I almost feel sorry for guys like Justin Bieber having to deal with that shit.
...
Yeah... the guy dying... sucks. I suppose. But, the other thing you get to know from living here... the Sepulveda pass is no place for pedestrians who are not paying attention to the vehicles.
Hail, Hail!!!
Exactly.
Imagine just driving through the pass and having some idiot pop up in your headlights. I feel bad for the driver and what he/she has to deal with for the rest of his/her life.
Hail, Hail!!!
now...
why not come to iowa & photo my lincoln town car with all its green duct tape holding the windows up? fuck a bunch of justin bieber & his bullshit ferrari... chadwick & his lincoln, where it's at.

Sounds like an album cover in the making.
Not sure about Bieber specifically but I think a lot of celebrities, at least the ones who are not super talented and famous, actually chase that Paparazzi attention. I mean when was the last time you heard about Johnny Depp or George Cloony being harassed by paparazzi? Those guys are way more famous than Bieber. But neither one of them lives full time in Hollywood and no tabloid is going to send a photographer to rural france to take Depp's picture. Instead it is the C and D list celebrities who go to trendy LA clubs that get photographed. And these are the same people who if not for the attention they get from these magazines would quickly be forgotten by the general public. I mean if you are a celebrity, why the hell would you live in hollywood other than the fact that you crave the attention. I mean sure it is a nice place to live, but there are tons of other super nice places too.
I get what you're saying.. and i somewhat agree... but, i've seen these guys... they suck.
Outside the Viper Room in 2000 or so, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were at a Brad gig. Papparazzi were there. Pete Sampres was also in the audience and he caught the swarm from the scum that gathered to catch Pitt and Aniston.
You should have seen the crowd that gathered when Eddie Vedder played his solo shows at the Wiltern during the April Fool's tour. They had gathered to catch Sean Penn... and possibly piss him off so he'd take a pop at one of them and they'd get it on camera.
So, it isn't always about someone going out to be seen.... sometimes, most of the times, it's to catch a band or have a nice dinner. The reason why you would have to venture out into Hollywood is because that is where Brad and Eddie Vedder play... and that is where you have to go if the restaurant is there. Restaurant's and bands don't go to all of the celebrity's homes.
Hail, Hail!!!
this was the first thing i thought of when i read this...i'm trying really hard to have any sort of sympathy for the dead guy who decided to be a human parasite
im waiting.

I personally think the life of a celebrity would be like living your own person hell. I really don't believe most people who are famous attempted to be famous. They just wanted to do a job that happened to bring spotlight on them. This, of course, does not include anyone who's ever auditioned for American Idol.

Really, what are they famous for? Talent?
I know it's subjective, but sheesh.
Anyway, earlier on the news they covered this story - and as much as I'd loathe to live the life of the so-called celebrity being pursued or that of the one killed, I was sickened by the shot of the guy's shoe and cap that flew off and were resting on the ground.

the people you mentioned are all the socialite reality show garbage, minus Bieber, who is a musi-, I mean, performer. MOST celebrities I'm talking about, like the Brad Pitts, the George Clooneys, etc, are not media whores. They do their best to stay clear of the spotlight in their daily lives. yeah, they show up on the red carpet, but that's part of their job-to promote their work. The rest of the time all they want is what the rest of us want-to be left to live our lives.

I'm not sure why I remember this, but when the Sopranos was at its peak, James Gandolfini was going through a divorce and yet was typically not subjected to paparazzi. It's how he and the others you mention conduct(ed) themselves.
Tabloids are there to feed the hungry for what - vapidness, idiocy? - and the ones I referred to, and their ilk - thrive on it. Unfortunately, their readers/followers do too...which I guess is my point.
This shit wouldn't happen if there weren't a market for the fallout.
Basically, we get what we ask for.
The reasons why these things exist is because of our demand.
Paparazzi exist because of the culture that thrives on bullshit. The Kardashians would not exist if there wasn't an interest in them... Jersey Shore... Honey Boo-Boo... American Idol... Real Housewives... these McDonaldslike factories are fast tracks to fame without having to possess any talents other than entertainment for the masses yearning for mind-numbing nonsense to escape the tyranny of their mundane lives. When America decides that we no longer want to head towards the Idiocracy where we are entertained by watching 3 hours of asses on our screens... the Papparazzi will become extinct.

Me too! I was just wondering how i've made it this far.
The thing is... you have probably heard Justin Bieber... you just don't know it.
Like, how many times have you been out somewhere are there is some annoying 'American Idol' sounding bullshit coming over the speaker system? That could have been and probably was Justin Bieber. It's like those ambient advertisements, such as billboards... we don't pay attention to them... but we come into contact with them and they do contaminate us.
Hail, Hail!!!
Great, thanks Cosmo, now I feel dirty. My virginity taken...I preferred my prior state of oblivion.
I dont think paparazzi attention is limited to the kardashians or Lohan. If you think this is the case you arent paying attention. Part of it, I think is that for whatever reason Lohan and Kardashians are SUPER FAMOUS and probably their pictures are worth alot of money when the photographs are sold. But Brad and Angelina arent attention seekers at all, and they are followed constantly. So much so, that a few of them, Brad may have been on of them, allowed the press to take a photo of their child right away, and gave the money raised to charity to get the press of their backs. Sean Penn is another example, he's not out at bars seeking attention or wanting the cover of US WEEKLY, but watch YouTube for awhile and you can find clips of him being followed by the paps. During the grunge heydey, im sure Ed was hounded like mad, no doubt theres a reason he has had a bodyguard for years now. You talk to Clooney and im sure he would say he's hounded like crazy. Sure he lives in france, but its not like the press isnt going to find him there. You think a simple google image search wont yield you results of his mansion in the south of france? Or the press following him and whatever girl he's dating at the moment? Gandolfini is followed by press all the time, as was the entire Sopranos crew. Some was the press, and some was the criminal activity of the actors in real life. Jon Hamm clearly isnt into being the center of attention or the fame and money game, but you can bet wherever the guy goes, even out to the supermarket or dinner with his wife, he is going to have a million people freaking out when they see him.
Its the same trash that killed MJ. People want to know. Does he have a pet monkey, what does Neverland look like etc... its silly.
The MJ's of the world, THAT kind of famous, the kind where you cant walk out the front door without hundreds of people asking for photos, thats something few of us can even comment on because its something so foreign to normal life, our normal lives.
I think you and others mistake some of it for attention seeking. Whatever you think of Beibers music, the guy clearly isnt looking to be followed while in his car like that, nor when he's out to dinner with a date or going to a grocery store. Thats invasive. Jennifer Aniston being followed by paps to the beach, and them taking pictures of her and harassing her while she's relaxing isnt what she signed up for nor is it justified or moral or ethical.
Ever watch a press junket? Getting your picture taken at such events is normal and acceptable. As is asking questions, and a mass of paps taking photos. This wasnt a press junket.
I also dont really understand the paps insatiable appetite for photos. The paps should ask the celebrity, or be able to sense common human body language, and if the celebrity doesnt want to be photographed, the paps should respect that. How many photos do you really need? These guys dont take one photo, they continue taking and taking them.
Also, I think paps should back off celebrities whenever a child of a celebrity is involved. If I saw a celebrity out and about with their child, i'd probably not say anything to them precisely for this reason.
Not one week ago, i ran across a photo of Selma Blair, in the grocery store parking lot, heading in to the store, baby in the front of the cart, sitting down. And Selma seemed to have some humor about it, jokingly running over the guy with the cart. But really? You need to take a picture of a celebrity in the grocery store parking lot, with her young child there? Really? Whatever you think of Selma Blair, this isnt right
He is not looking for attention when he is driving a ferrari through LA? That to me seems like the definition of looking for attention. Bieber has to know his time in the spotlight won't last for ever so he needs photographers (to keep his name in the news) as much as they need him to make money. And I am not sure about Beiber but I have read more than a few stories about celebrities who actually work with the paparazzi, and forward them their schedules, so that they can always have someone taking their picture and they aren't forgotten. I mean most celebrities have publicists whose whole job description is to make sure their client is getting press coverage.
