LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Police say a paparazzo was hit by a car and killed after taking photos of Justin Bieber's Ferrari sports car in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles police Officer James Stoughton says the man died at a hospital Tuesday evening. Stoughton says Bieber was not in the car at the time.

Sgt. Rudy Lopez told the Los Angeles Times newspaper that the pop star's friend was driving the car when it was pulled over for a traffic stop. It was parked on a busy street when the photographer arrived.

Police say the man was struck by a car as he returned to his own car.

Stoughton says no charges are expected against the motorist who hit the man.

A call to a Bieber publicist was not immediately returned.

He didn't look both ways - I liken it to a texting pedestrian who walks into traffic.

    Stupid move.

I just don't get that mentality of actually liking, pursuing, a life of chasing people (or their cars) around.

These folks hang around in various areas of my immediate neighborhood, milling about, blocking paths, cameras in hand, driving like blooming idiots - they remind me of animals going in for the kill.

And for what? For the people who eat that shit up and are willing to pay to do so.

How come there isn't a picture? Couldn't have been the only one, they travel in packs. Perhaps in the next People magazine.

The real question is, will this story be in the next edition of Darwin Awards?

Living in Los Angeles and going to the various venues around here... I have seen these guys in action. They are pretty much scumbags. Imagine you are going out to dinner with your spouse and kids and some greasy fucks shove cameras in your face and hold the shutter button down firing off strobe flashes in your face. not just as you leave the restaurant, but chasing you as you walk and drive away, constantly firing their cameras at you.
I know, i know... celebrity.. public figure, blah-blah-blah... but, i tell you, seeing what they do... I almost feel sorry for guys like Justin Bieber having to deal with that shit.

Yeah... the guy dying... sucks. I suppose. But, the other thing you get to know from living here... the Sepulveda pass is no place for pedestrians who are not paying attention to the vehicles.

I feel bad for the driver of the car...it was obviously an accident, but he has to live with the memories.

    Exactly.
Imagine just driving through the pass and having some idiot pop up in your headlights. I feel bad for the driver and what he/she has to deal with for the rest of his/her life.

I find it surprising that paparazzi photos are still a marketable source. I wish people would stop buying the trashy magazines that support this stupid "career."

Not sure about Bieber specifically but I think a lot of celebrities, at least the ones who are not super talented and famous, actually chase that Paparazzi attention. I mean when was the last time you heard about Johnny Depp or George Cloony being harassed by paparazzi? Those guys are way more famous than Bieber. But neither one of them lives full time in Hollywood and no tabloid is going to send a photographer to rural france to take Depp's picture. Instead it is the C and D list celebrities who go to trendy LA clubs that get photographed. And these are the same people who if not for the attention they get from these magazines would quickly be forgotten by the general public. I mean if you are a celebrity, why the hell would you live in hollywood other than the fact that you crave the attention. I mean sure it is a nice place to live, but there are tons of other super nice places too.

I get what you're saying.. and i somewhat agree... but, i've seen these guys... they suck.
Outside the Viper Room in 2000 or so, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were at a Brad gig. Papparazzi were there. Pete Sampres was also in the audience and he caught the swarm from the scum that gathered to catch Pitt and Aniston.
You should have seen the crowd that gathered when Eddie Vedder played his solo shows at the Wiltern during the April Fool's tour. They had gathered to catch Sean Penn... and possibly piss him off so he'd take a pop at one of them and they'd get it on camera.
So, it isn't always about someone going out to be seen.... sometimes, most of the times, it's to catch a band or have a nice dinner. The reason why you would have to venture out into Hollywood is because that is where Brad and Eddie Vedder play... and that is where you have to go if the restaurant is there. Restaurant's and bands don't go to all of the celebrity's homes.

I personally think the life of a celebrity would be like living your own person hell. I really don't believe most people who are famous attempted to be famous. They just wanted to do a job that happened to bring spotlight on them. This, of course, does not include anyone who's ever auditioned for American Idol.

It seems to me like those (OK, many) who are famous and plastered all over the place, in these times anyway, DO want that spotlight; they court it, get off on it. The Kardashian Klan, Lohan, Beiber, fucking Snookie.

Really, what are they famous for? Talent?

I know it's subjective, but sheesh.

Anyway, earlier on the news they covered this story - and as much as I'd loathe to live the life of the so-called celebrity being pursued or that of the one killed, I was sickened by the shot of the guy's shoe and cap that flew off and were resting on the ground.

    No respect...

the people you mentioned are all the socialite reality show garbage, minus Bieber, who is a musi-, I mean, performer. MOST celebrities I'm talking about, like the Brad Pitts, the George Clooneys, etc, are not media whores. They do their best to stay clear of the spotlight in their daily lives. yeah, they show up on the red carpet, but that's part of their job-to promote their work. The rest of the time all they want is what the rest of us want-to be left to live our lives.
