My parents almost got divorced because of our poverty. This post was never to demonize the poor! LOL Cmon people! This post is to be constructive. I said in the OP that the rich will pay more and donate alot, the middle class pays more already, so what class and group is left to discuss? What group and class do we NEVER talk about? That would be the poor, lower class or the unfortunate! Ok my whole point was to find creative ways for that groupl to "lighten the load" and pay their "fair share". There is no reason for anyone to get emotional or angry cause this is a positive and constructive thread. So if you are ignorant, then just leave and dont come back, cause all you will do is derail the thread's potential.
Ok another good idea might be to STOP TRYING TO DERAIL THREADS! LOL
I believe we can do more as poor people that are able to do more.
What are the numbers of people who can physically do work, or serve that dont pay income taxes? I believe its about 70-100 million people! This thread is to find creative ways for these people to pay their 'fair share" and lighten the load! Does everyone get it?
I think you would have gotten a lot farther- speaking for myself, that is- if you had voiced the thread around an idea like, "how can we help the less fortunate to lead more productive, happy and fulfilled lives" rather than the "make the poor pay their fair share" approach. In my opinion, you derailed your own thread from the get-go. Or not.
You are taking my context from other threads and applying your opinions to this thread....very elementary! Stay on topic and be constructive! You cannot I see! All of a sudden you made this thread about YOUR feelings and YOUR opinions!Theres no time like the present

I believe if we open up our avenues of thought, especially where there is not much hope, then we open up potential for innovation. We have to find ways for the poor to be involved more. We need to find ways to give them something to do. This isnt about classifying them! This is about trying to empower them! Some just dont get it. Once we move on something....sometimes other doors open up and we find new trends or innovative ideas! We need to navigate our way and not be complacent and still! We need to mobilize where we can and stay active on ideas. Thats what its about. Finding ways for us to be a part of the solution. Finding ways for us to all be involved. Thats inspirational and thats compassionate. Solutions!Theres no time like the present

Okay... I'll bite.
'Fair Share'... how about a Federal Sales Tax? If you buy a loaf of bread for your weekly dinner... or you buy a 17 million dollar home in Aspen... you pay a no loopholes Sales tax at equal percentages on both items. 6% on the loaf of bread... and 6% on the 17 million dollar home with an indoor bowling alley.
How about boosting the Gasoline Tax and earmarking it for transportation projects only? The more you drive, the more you use the roads, the more you pay for the roads you constantly use.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Im just happy to get some ideas here....they are far and few between ....so thanks Cosmo!
I want the rich to pay more to shut Obama up on class warfare, BUT I want reforms, savings and cuts to go along with it. Any gas taxes and road taxes hurt the working class the most, so I say no to them.
Keep them coming....Theres no time like the present

Keep them coming....
Double the fuel taxes on non-commercial flights. Make those fuckface CEOs from GM either fly commercial flights or pay through the nose for their private jets.
Create a Federal Vehicle registration fee that is based upon both the weight of the vehicle and the displacement of the engine. Get those Hollywood douchebags out of their HumVees and Towncars or pay to drive around town looking for out of town tourist girls to molest and rape.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Ok great! Yea stick it to them! Although I believe that when its all said and done, if they pay the %39.6 and all other taxes that are coming, it will be about %60 for the rich. Is that enough in your mind? If not, what do you think they should pay total in taxes?Theres no time like the present

No. It is fair. You are talking about Fair, right?
If a homless guy want to drive around in a HumVee... he should pay the exact same amount as the Hollywood douchebag. The same goes when you fly to your beach house in South Florida on your private jet... you would pay the exact same amount as the rich guy.

I say raise the taxes on the rich like Obama wants to, just to shut him up on class warfare! Then, try to lower taxes on everyone else! Then, come up with creative ideas for ALL people to do more to "lighten the load"Theres no time like the present

How about this...
A simple flat tax system... on Income, investments and material goods.
15% on income. No tax write offs. No home mortgage interest write-off... no writing off your S Class Mercedes Benz for your 'Real Estate' business... no write-offs. And no, you cannot buy a car in Canada and drive it over here to avoid the taxes on it.
22% income on investments. Stocks... Bonds... Foriegn Investments... Income property...
6% Sales tax on all goods. Thumb tacks... 6%, Big Macs... 6%, 137 room single family mansion in Vail... 6%, 2013 Ford Focus... 6%.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Hey its sounds like a great idea, I wonder if the revenues would increase if we did that? Right now we bring in about 2 trillion per year. But we spend 3.3 trillion per year, so if we can get the revenues up 500 billion and cut 800 billion, we got a balanced annual budget! YAY!Theres no time like the present

Jeez fear, where are your priorities?

I think you might be referring to the number of people that don't pay federal income tax, which is 76 million. Most of those 76 million are working, and they pay local, state and payroll tax. The others included in that would be the elderly, disabled, and the unemployed. Which sub group of the 76 million would you like to see pay their 'fair share'?0 -

I'll will play along...
When 30 large companies, such as Verizon and General Electric, make a total of $160 billion in U.S. profits from 2008-2010 according to the Citizens for Tax Justice and pay NO federal income taxes there is a substantial loss of revenue to the U.S. Treasury. Two thirds of corporations pay no income tax on their profits under the Swiss cheese tax code.
Just taxing corporations at the rate paid in the prosperous nineteen sixties would bring in hundreds of billions of dollars yearly. Another great revenue producer is a tiny Wall St. speculation sales tax, a far tinier rate than what you pay in sales taxes.

Yah. You're right. Back to the OP. Hmmmm. I got it... lets put some sort of identifying band on the arm of anyone who is receiving a handout. Who cares about the underlying reasons for this. Let's simply identify anyone in a position of need. People with these bands- understanding that they are getting a free ride and living on gravy street- can then be called upon to do small tasks that show their appreciation for the people spoon feeding them.
For example... if it's cold out and you don't really feel like wiping the snow off your car... you can get one of those armband guys to do it for you. If they refuse... you simply take the number on their armband... report it... and bingo: no more free stuff for one week (first offence). The more refusals... escalating consequences.
Thread over. I nailed it!"My brain's a good brain!"0 -

"If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time.
But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together" - Lilla Watson
... speaks volumes to me. Sit a while, yarn a while with people... get to know other people and what they've experienced, what they value... acknowledge differences in culture, gender, economic status and think about the impact of these on the individual... seek diverse views and if we all 'think' as opposed to 'rearranging our own prejudices'...?0
