Gorge II was my first ever PJ show after 10 years of being a fan (I know it took a while). After years of missing shows in my area (NYC) because of either being screwed out of tix I thought I had from "friends", having an important thing to do that day, or most recently being in Greece the whole time they were in the Northeast, I decided I had enough of missing the best band in the world.

So I traveled to Gorge to catch the second show and i must say...
    BEST SHOW EVER!!!!

better than RATM, STP, Black Crowes, ..... or any other of the 50 or so bands I've seen before.

best part- 5 VITALOGY songs- my favorite CD.

thanks to this show there will be many more to come.

  • Gorge 2 was my first PJ show.

    Awesome. Just awesome.

I really wasn't into Pearl Jam until their latest album came out. In the last two years I have been discovering dozens of bands that I somehow missed growing up (I'm 22 now) and Pearl Jam was one that I missed. A week after the last album came out I already owned all of their studio stuff and was looking for good bootlegs online. I went from 0 to 285 Pearl Jam songs in no time at all. I was buying it faster than I could listen to it. I kick myself now for all of the shows I missed growing up. If only I knew.

Then when they announced dates I was already on top of it. I snagged two good seats, one for me and one for my Dad, who was flying out from Michigan to go to the show with me. Gorge 2 was going to be our bi-yearly father-son concert outing.

Long story short, I loved it. Awesome concert, easily one of my top 3 shows I have ever been to. Dad loved it too.

But, if you asked me if I would get hold of this....

    http://imagesocket.com/images/Picture_010f4a.jpg

...I would have told you that you were nuts. It bounced off my dad's hand and landed underneath the row in front of us, where I quickly nabbed it. I was shaking for the next 20 minutes. I just wanted to get it to the safety of the car, which we finally did. This is my first drumstick ever.

Every time Pearl Jam comes to town I am making an effort to see them. I can't wait till they come back around.

  • I was never a huge pj fan, but after the gorge on the 23rd i am converted! I first saw them live on the lollapalooza tour in 92', and then again in 93' at the met in spokane. Both were good shows, but there were a lot of great bands and shows happening in those days, so my interest was minimal. Until recently. My wife wanted to go to a show this summer, and since she is a big pj fan and had never seen them live before i decided that we would go to the gorge and check them out. All i can say is.....WOW!!! What a great show. I have read a lot of the posts in this forum and understand that to a jamaholic like many of you, that the show may have been lacking,(I would have to agree that the "cold" ending after yellow ledbetter/ssb was somewhat dissapointing.), but if you put all the setlist dissection, complaints about the temperature, etc. aside, those of you who were there would have to agree that the band sounded great. I have been to thousands of shows in my 30 plus years of loving music, this show may not rank in my top ten, but it ranks very high on the list.

A great show for sure. Just the fact that put out as much as they did in that heat puts that show in my top 15.

    2.Zeppelin at the kingdome 77'
3.Soundgarden,Devo,Ramones,Screaming Trees at the gorge 96'

I agree that a couple of more songs would have been great, but after a very long day in the heat, and the expenditure of energy during the show, it was kind of mercifully short.

Great show until the end. They started 10 minutes later tonight and ended 10 minutes earlier. The crowd did not respond to YL at all tonight. Everyone was in shock the show was over when they played it and nobody was reacting. The entire crowd stayed after they left the stage but no love from the boys. Stone's tech even hooked him back up to his earpiece and guitar but nobody else wanted to play any longer. Have never seen a PJ crowd so disappointed and somber after a show. Maybe the heat got to them. It was more hot during the day today but it cooled off more when the sun went down tonight.

To say "everyone was in shock" that the show was over, or that the crowd was "disappointed and somber" is completely inaccurate. That might have been your perception, but from what I saw people were thrilled to have been part of a truly amazing set of concerts. Many people I spoke with were "in shock" about the Little Wing--which the band hasn't played in 11 years--along with a fierce set of rocking songs played like it was their last show ever. Come on, dude, you're sounding like Debbie Downer.

I don't know who these people are -- this is at the Ginko Petrified Forest the morning of Night II...the guy in the avacado shirt is from Vancouver, but that's all I know...they were nice enough to take our picture, so we took theirs....

Little Wing--the rare reward for sticking out the 108 degrees and a half-rack of Rainier. Wish I could have got in on that wine "pass it around" deal. Sweet jesus, I'm hooked. When's that Hawaii show, now?

  • I just got back from my Seattle vacation that kicked of with a visit to the gorge to agian see the best band in the world. My lucky day was that Saturday when I show up after driving seven hours from bozeman and waited through those horrible lines to get in.Little did I realize that becuase of the gorge crews ineptness to deal with the crowd was a blessing in disguise.I get through the gates to the disappointment of hearing Eddie sing the chorus of corduroy.Even worse was when I showed up to my seats to find that people were sitting in them.I get a little agitated thinking they stole my seats, check thier tickets to find that they had the right seats.Maybe the ticket office screwed up and sold the same seats twice? Nope.My fiance suddenly points out that our tickets where for Sunday's show! At first I was goingt to stick around and tuck myself away in the masses, but the my concience got the better of me and decided to talk to security about the situation and the fact that my ticket were now torn. After a few calls to this person and that person, one of the head nuts came over and said today is your lucky day. Not only did she pre-arrange it so that our tickets for Sunday were still good, but we also got to stay for rest of the show in GA. Two shows for the price of one! This had to be one of the best weekends I had ever experienced. I can't rated the shows indiviually even though the overall concensus during the middle of Sunday's show was that it was the better of the two(a night of fewer fan but twice the amount of PJ junkies). Was by far they best weekned of music I have ever witnessed. It put shame bumbershoot(alway a let down) and that crap they called woodstock in '99.As for the shorter set, I couldn't help notice that by the time betterman came up eddie was feeling saucy and drank way more than I'm use to seeing. After two days of intense heat and energy the shorter set was somewhat relieving. To go another set would have been brutally hard to endure.
Just a side note- Have the words to YLB ever been sung the same? I swear everytime they change and I feel like an idiot trying to sing along.
Oh yeah, as for that luck that I was refering to:I disappeared on the ride home when eight hours into an eleven hour drive my car threw a rod and came to a hault in the middle of nowhere(which is pretty much anywhere in Montana).A things good and bad come full circle.

    Forever Pearl Jam!

Even my husband said he "missed being at the Pearl Jam concerts" - and he NEVER says stuff like that. Those shows turned him into a fan -- heck, he knows the words to "Go" and "Dirty Frank"...this is freakin' me out!

So glad I made it to this two day event, great times indeed. Everyone took care of each other, thanks again to the people sitting next to me that brought the spray bottle of water. I keep watching the video I took of GTF where Ed was on the top of the sound booth.
