Was thinking about considering this one as a top contender. The album is recorded well and sounds amazing on vinyl, but the music itself is so simular from song to song. Very interested to see where he takes his sound with his next release, hopefully it gets more diverse.

Mark Lanegan Band - Blues Funeral
    Cat Power - Sun
    Bob Mould - Silver Age
    Soundgarden - King Animal
Boys & Girls - Alabama Shakes
    Patti Smith - Banga
Let's say knowledge is a tree, yeah.
It's growing up just like me.
  • King Animal by Soundgarden
    Blunderbuss by Jack White
    Babel by Mumford & Sons
    Uno by Green Day

I still haven't listened to Channel Orange by Frank Ocean, but I heard it is extremely good. I might add that to the listen once I give it a listen.
  • I'm going to have to add Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - "The Heist." Easily one of the best rap/hip-hop albums I have heard in a long time. Lyrically it's awesome too since it's not a bunch of songs about smoking weed and banging bitches.

    Mumford&Sons-Babel
    Sheepdogs-Self Titled

Easy to make a list, as most of the music I buy and listen to was released prior to 2012!
  • No doubts there was a ton of great music released this year. From what I've heard here are my picks:
    Heartless Bastards - Arrow
JD McPhereson - Signs & Signifiers
First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar (think that's 2012)

Gary Clark Jr. - Blak & Blu
Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls

A few others that I just havent got around to listening to yet (or enough to rate them)
Dr. Dog - Be the Void
The Avett Bros - The Carpenter
    Delta Spirit - S/T
    Gaslight Anthem - Handwritten
Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit - Live from Alabama

OP: I'm interested in your best album list....you cast a wide net in your musical tastes and always seem to have some good insight....you gonna post it?

Album of the Year goes to....Dr. John -- Locked Down

Most Unexpected Awesomeness....RNDM -- Acts (I've a little bias cause Jeff is involved, but, still, this is a helluvan album!!!)

Other releases that stirred my soul and got multiple plays (in no particular order):

Dr. Dog -- Be the Void
Alabama Shakes -- Boys & Girls
Wood Brothers -- Live Vols. I & II
    Japandroids -- Celebration Rock
Mark Lanegan Band -- Blues Funeral
    Heartless Bastards -- Arrow
Kendrick Lamar -- good kid, M.A.A.D. city
Glen Hansard -- Rhythm and Repose
    Django Django -- S/T
Chris Robinson Brotherhood -- Big Moon Ritual, The Magic Door
Jack Johnson & Friends -- Best of Kokua Festival

Did'nt realize that Wood Brothers was a 2012 release...I'll add that to my list as well. And prior to the EV shows, I was unfamiliar with Glen. I have this album ordered, can't wait to listen and explore more of his catalogue.
