Maybe this is why Pearl Jam doesn't play Oklahoma (or other parts of the Southwest). This and the nonsense I'm reading about people talking during Glen's set, as well as someone taking offense to the discussion of politics. (Real shocker, I know. Eddie Vedder is liberal. Couldn't have deduced that from the show program or anything else from the last 20 years of the band.)

I don't think that's the case considering that PJ's two biggest political backlash moments took place in Colorado and New York. I think it's just the mood of a crowd on a given night. Sometimes it's respectful, sometimes it's not. Some of the best PJ crowds i've seen have been at southern shows. I know a lot of Ed/PJ fans from all over that can't stand his politics. I'm not crazy about them either but I would never shout back to him. I don't want to hear democrats, republicans, or even communists rant at a concert. They still own the stage though.

Honestly, I'm a proud Okie and I'm embarrassed at this nonsense. People who yell, boo, etc. are taking advantage of what's supposed to be an intimate setting. EV should simply not talk to the crowd or take requests in places like this so people don't have a chance to ruin it for others.

Make no mistake: If you are yelling "Eddie!!!" or "Black!!!!!" or booing when EV makes a comment about Papa John's Healthcare, YOU ARE RUINING IT FOR OTHER PEOPLE. WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT. You are either at the wrong show. (This isn't a show for 100.5 KATT fans who just "wanna rock, man!") OR you are are a PJ fan making it all about YOU and your man crush on Eddie. We ALL have that song that we'd die to hear. We ALL day dream about meeting Eddie and telling him just how much the music means. Blah, blah, blah. But we ALL can't have that. An intimate show is as close as most will come to those things, so DON'T RUIN the whole show because you think this is finally your chance to request Rats or whatever.

Heaven forbid you just shut up and listen to what will be a 30-song set list that will always include cool stuff. Heaven forbid people just have enough class to think about the rest of us. Heaven forbid people don't assume, "Hey, I'm at a show. I can get as hammered as I want and yell. That's what these things are for."

 Very well said, this applies to any Ed show on any tour...

Print this in the Sniper! Perfectly said.

He actually said when I walked up and asked to sing Hunger Strike "I believe in reincarnation but I dont think you can pull that off." Then you left out the part where the guy came flying off the stage and escorted me to the door and booted me out. Ed was interacting with the crowd all night. I was respectful and even said "sir" when I asked to sing it. What did I do to get ejected? I drove all the way back to OKC embarrassed because my brother came from Nashville to see the show with me. I can understand kicking someone out for being too drunk or physically trying to get up on stage but all I did was ask a question and would have sat back down and enjoyed the rest of the show. I was even respectful to the security guard as he was shoving me towards the door. I did nothing out of the ordinary of what was already taking place. Freedom of speech just didnt exist last night. Kicked out for asking a question. Ive been a 10C member for years and this is how I was treated. It was a really sad day for me. I feel like a part of me died last night. BTW Ed I would have nailed it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7ar9PvcvBw

Unless your name was on the ticket it seems like a pretty ill-advised thing to do.

Let me start by saying this show was absolutely awesome. Very rowdy crowd especially during Glen's set. He handled it well, as expected, but was clearly annoyed. His set was great anyway but tons of talking and interruptions. I just don't understand people. Why do they feel a need to shout stupid shit? Or talk during an amazing performers music that everyone there paid good money to see? It really pisses me off and to all of you that do it... Fuck you for being that asshole. It definitely put a slight damper on Glen's set for me. On to the rest of the show.

Small Town was a perfect opener for this crowd followed by a really special set list. Education was a cool surprise! Uke songs sounded great as usual. Loved Around The Bend, Won't Back Down, Drifting and Lukin. But the real highlight for me was This Land Is My Land. Simply beautiful. I have always loved this song and was totally shocked when they played it. My other favorite was Loud Uke. It's awesome! Such a cool sound. One I didn't expect to hit me like it did was Long Nights. Very cool atmosphere during that. Other than the attention seeking assholes yelling, this show really blew my mind.

To the dude who wanted to sing Hunger Strike... Sorry you got kicked out but why do think you should get to be a part of that stage of performers? I don't get it. And to the people bitching about the political talk... Don't you know Ed's stance on things by now?!?! Jesus, he's been doing that kinda shit for over 20 years! If you don't like it, don't buy a fucking ticket! You know he's probably...ah fuck it I'm done ranting.

Great show, pumped to see what's in store for tonight!!

(Oh yeah love, love, love the Pump Organ song!! I NEED a recording of that!)

I really can't stand when audience members speak out (positively or negatively). Hell, I can barely stand when they loudly sing along to a quiet song. The shout-outs are just ridiculous though. Everyone thinks they're so funny or cute or elite or clever. You're just annoying. Not even Eddie cares if you're requesting the ultra-hip rare B-side that only hardcore fans know.

If Ed was ranting about some political crap I wouldn't even boo. I just wouldn't pay attention. And why would I think that he would want one of us to duet with him? We're not listed in the program. He is. We pay to sit and watch. This is why quiet intimate shows sometimes don't work.

For the record: Dude can perform, just doesn't know when to? :nono:
  • Best show of the tour ( at least of the ones I have seen). We were lucky enough to get 2nd row tickets, and ended up with the biggest jerk sitting right behind us. He was drunk off his ass before the show even started, and then he was talking loudly through Glen's unplugged song "Say it to me Now". So, like anyone would, my husband turned around and motioned for him to be quiet. Most people would apologize, but this guy, like a 5 year old yelled " you be quiet, you can't tell me what to do"! We let it go, but he continued to talk throughout the entire set. My husband turned around again, motioned shh, and said please, please. This guys response was to tell his wife, "let him turn again, let him, just wait". He drunkenly mumbled something about pulling his hair too, lol. Really guy? I mean come on. We weren't trying to sart anything. We just wanted to hear and enjoy the show. He was also stomping on the back of my chair, or the floor, couldn't really tell, but it was irritating. My husband went to get security after Glen's set, just in case this guy got out of control. His wife was then trying to rally the whole 3rd row against us. I tried to diffuse telling her, we don't want to start anything, everyone just wants to enjoy the show and have a good time. They thought they had the right to disrupt everyone around them because "they paid good money for the seats". We all did, and we shouldn't have to listen to you instead I'd the show we all paid "good money" for. Anyway, just had to vent. It almost ruined a great show, but my husband got personally handed a pick by Eddie, so that made it all worth it. Plus that setlist, wow! And they played our song "Can't Help Fallig in Love", and I cried. LOL  Hoping for a better crowd tonight.

Well it was Ed's solo show not some random guy in the crowd's oppurtunity to have his 15 minutes. I was humiliated for you dude. Seemed like a pretty unstable move or maybe you are very arrogant.

Just wanted a dream to come true. Not arrogant or wanting my 15 mins at all. I can sing it and would have loved the opportunity. He didnt seem offended by it. I would have taken the comments, laughed it off and enjoyed the rest of the show. I've been to Cornell shows where he lets someone come up and sing Vedders part I guess I just thought it possible.

    So what happened here.
During the show you just walked up to the stage, and asked if you could sing a song with Eddie?
Were you sitting up close the whole show?
Had you planned on doing this the entire time?
Just something that popped in to your head, and you took a chance?

    Details please.
    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
  • My fan club seats where way in the the back so I walked up in between songs and said "sir can I sing hunger strike with you?" He said what and I said it again. He said his funny stuff listed above plus what I posted that wasnt listed and I was laughing at it. Would have went and sat back down but never got the chance. My bro and I had seen Chris let someone sing Eddies part at one of his shows and my bro was like just go up there as ask him. Whats it going to hurt.
