Set List

01. Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town
02. Can’t Keep
03. Sleeping By Myself
04. Without You

(Ed greets the audience. A man and a women shout that they love Eddie. Ed thinks the man sounds more drunk than the woman. A person in the audience makes an odd braying sound. Ed asks if you are allowed to bring in diseased Emu’s into the building. Ed talks about the meaning of the song “Soon Forget” and says it reminds him of a Porno For Pyros song called “Cursed Male”, which he plays a couple of bars from.)

05. Soon Forget
06. Around The Bend
07. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away-(Lennon, McCartney) (instrumental intro only)
08. Driftin’
09. Wishlist
10. Better Man (Ed forgets the lyrics pretty early on. He laughs and says “This is a new song and I’ve never played it before.” He messes up again but eventually gets back on track. seems to be some new improvisational lyrics during the outro)
11. Millworker-(Taylor) (instrumental middle section jam no lyrics)
12. Far Behind
13. Setting Forth

(Ed introduces the next song by talking about Chris McCandless and his travels. Ed hopes that even if it hadn’t ended tragically that someone would have written a book about him. “this next song is about life, love, hope and the pursuit of happiness.”)

14. Guaranteed

(Ed says, “this is a mandolin..” and audience member screams “Lukin!”. Ed replies, “yeah, I am gonna play Lukin on a mandolin...he strums the chords for it a little bit then plays the main riff from “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath. Ed, “I will play anything you want if you just stop taking pictures. Save it for the end. I don’t want it distracting the rest of the audience.”
15. Rise
16. Long Nights w/ Glen Hansard

(Ed repeats an audience members shout of “my name is Jeremy.” Ed laughs and says, “I owe you an apology don’t I? in mocking tone “hey Jeremy, you speak in class today? Sorry man....” He goes on to talk about Ken Burn’s documentary on the Dust Bowl this leads to a series of digressions and stories including his part time job working at the club “Bacchanal” and getting to work a Ray Charles show. As Ray passes Ed he says, “That is a fine haircut son” referring to Ed’s mohawk. Ed is stunned and thinks “Ray Charles can see, all this time, he has been playing us.” Ed then sees Ray’s handlers laughing and realizes he has been set up. “It was an honor to get pranked by the great Ray Charles.”)

17. Immortality (dedicated to Ray Charles)

(Ed says this next one is a sing along and starts to strum the chords for “Slow Lukin” an audience member says he wants to come up and sing Hunger Strike. Ed says, “oh, you are gonna sing Chris’s part? I like it when audience members tell jokes.” While Ed has been talking he continued strumming the “Slow” version of Lukin after a few more strums he plays the regular version)

18. Lukin
19. Porch

Encore Break 1

20. Just Breathe
21. Pump Organ (same version as previously. Lyrics rather than wordless singing)

(Ed wonders what to play next. He says, “I just got an interesting request...I have never played this by myself before, when I get to the chorus I may have to stop for a bit...”)

22. Education (on acoustic guitar. plays it pretty well. Little hesitations on the bridge section)

(Ed describes the next song as being sort of like Better Man but from the man’s perspective. “Maybe every terrible, awful, tragic story has two sides.”)

23. Fourth Of July-(Dave Alvin)
24. Society w/ Glen Hansard-(Hannan)
25. Sleepless Nights w/ Glen-(Bryant, Bryant) [busking no mics or PA)
26. Can’t Help Falling In Love w/ Glen-(Creatore, Peretti, Weiss) {Dedicated to newlywed Eric and his wife}

27. This Land Is Your Land-(Woodie Guthrie) {Glen plays ukulele and vocals, Ed vocals-They rehearsed it just a few minutes before Ed went on stage. Dedicated to Woody Guthrie}

(Ed talks about the owner of Papa’ John’s not wanting to give his employees health care. Despite posting huge profits he claims that health care will cost him too much. A belligerent audience member shouts at Ed to stop talking about politics and just sing his songs. Ed tells the guy to put his leash back on and settle down. Maybe smoke some pot, which is legal in Seattle. Ed, “I can’t wait to get back home.”
Ed says the next song is beautiful and that there is someone special in the audience he wants to play it for. “This is for Michelle, Thanks for letting us take Jesse out with us. We need him. This is a beautiful song and I can say that because I didn’t write it”)

28. Falling Slowly w/ Glen-(Hansard, Irgloá)-Dedicated to Michelle
29. Loud Uke-(generally the same as previous versions)
30. I Won’t Back Down-(Lynne, Petty) {crowd sings outro chorus. Ed says “it sounds like church”}

31. So You Want To Be A Rock And Roll Star-(Hillman, McGuinn) Dedicated to Wayne Coyne of “The Flaming Lips” an Oklahoma native
32. The End

Encore Break 2

(Ed invites a girl onstage to start the tape machine for Hard Sun)

Glen Hansard Set List
01. Say It To Me Now (busk)
02. Pennies In The Fountain

(Some obnoxious woman starts chanting “Eddie, Eddie”. She gets roundly booed by the rest of the audience. Glen says, “thats just rude lady. This next song is definitely not for you.”)

03. Love, Don’t Leave Me Waiting/Respect-(Redding)

(after the song an audience member shouts, “we apologize for her.” Glen says he respects people who speak their minds. “Last time I played here I said something about Obama and got booed.” crowd cheers, “so for the six people standing up, “We did it didn’t we? This next song is for Democrats and Republicans.”)

04. Your Heart’s Not In It (This song seems to be a work in progress. Going from being called Lucia, a lyric he no longer sings, to being listed as something else on the set list and being introduced as “your heart’s not in it”)

05. This Gift (“during the song Glen stops and says “if you want to talk just go outside and get a beer but please have a bit of respect for people playing music”)

06. Devil Town w/ Courtney-(Daniel Johnston)
07. High Hope
08. Song Of Good Hope
Falling down,...not staying down

Just got back to the hotel. Great show, the crowd was pretty rowdy and the flashes/pictures throughout the show were obnoxious. I wish I was able to stay for the show tomorrow night though, awesome experience as usual.

Its just to bad people dont know how to control themselves after having a few beers. Glen is a top tallent and it seems some jerk offs in the crowd have no idea what kind of person Glen is on and off the stage. I sure hope they were not 10 club members. :(

I don't understand why those people even show up for the first performer. If they don't want to hear the artist, they should just show up late. So rude!
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

It's sad that there seems to be a lack of respect from a minority in these shows, I hope they do not spoil the experience for the rest of the audience - glad to see people are enjoying the shows regardless

He actually said when I walked up and asked to sing Hunger Strike "I believe in reincarnation but I dont think you can pull that off." Then you left out the part where the guy came flying off the stage and escorted me to the door and booted me out. Ed was interacting with the crowd all night. I was respectful and even said "sir" when I asked to sing it. What did I do to get ejected? I drove all the way back to OKC embarrassed because my brother came from Nashville to see the show with me. I can understand kicking someone out for being too drunk or physically trying to get up on stage but all I did was ask a question and would have sat back down and enjoyed the rest of the show. I was even respectful to the security guard as he was shoving me towards the door. I did nothing out of the ordinary of what was already taking place. Freedom of speech just didnt exist last night. Kicked out for asking a question. Ive been a 10C member for years and this is how I was treated. It was a really sad day for me. I feel like a part of me died last night. BTW Ed I would have nailed it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7ar9PvcvBw

Well it was Ed's solo show not some random guy in the crowd's oppurtunity to have his 15 minutes. I was humiliated for you dude. Seemed like a pretty unstable move or maybe you are very arrogant.

Maybe this is why Pearl Jam doesn't play Oklahoma (or other parts of the Southwest). This and the nonsense I'm reading about people talking during Glen's set, as well as someone taking offense to the discussion of politics. (Real shocker, I know. Eddie Vedder is liberal. Couldn't have deduced that from the show program or anything else from the last 20 years of the band.)

Honestly, I'm a proud Okie and I'm embarrassed at this nonsense. People who yell, boo, etc. are taking advantage of what's supposed to be an intimate setting. EV should simply not talk to the crowd or take requests in places like this so people don't have a chance to ruin it for others.

Make no mistake: If you are yelling "Eddie!!!" or "Black!!!!!" or booing when EV makes a comment about Papa John's Healthcare, YOU ARE RUINING IT FOR OTHER PEOPLE. WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT. You are either at the wrong show. (This isn't a show for 100.5 KATT fans who just "wanna rock, man!") OR you are are a PJ fan making it all about YOU and your man crush on Eddie. We ALL have that song that we'd die to hear. We ALL day dream about meeting Eddie and telling him just how much the music means. Blah, blah, blah. But we ALL can't have that. An intimate show is as close as most will come to those things, so DON'T RUIN the whole show because you think this is finally your chance to request Rats or whatever.

Heaven forbid you just shut up and listen to what will be a 30-song set list that will always include cool stuff. Heaven forbid people just have enough class to think about the rest of us. Heaven forbid people don't assume, "Hey, I'm at a show. I can get as hammered as I want and yell. That's what these things are for."

I don't think that's the case considering that PJ's two biggest political backlash moments took place in Colorado and New York. I think it's just the mood of a crowd on a given night. Sometimes it's respectful, sometimes it's not. Some of the best PJ crowds i've seen have been at southern shows. I know a lot of Ed/PJ fans from all over that can't stand his politics. I'm not crazy about them either but I would never shout back to him. I don't want to hear democrats, republicans, or even communists rant at a concert. They still own the stage though.

Unless your name was on the ticket it seems like a pretty ill-advised thing to do.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

I might be off of this, but I think Ed played Setting Forth in place of No Ceiling.

  • Eddie did mention how blown away he was by Tulsa at the end.
Also in Small Town he changed the 'never dreamed you'd return' line to 'never been here be-fore'

Let me start by saying this show was absolutely awesome. Very rowdy crowd especially during Glen's set. He handled it well, as expected, but was clearly annoyed. His set was great anyway but tons of talking and interruptions. I just don't understand people. Why do they feel a need to shout stupid shit? Or talk during an amazing performers music that everyone there paid good money to see? It really pisses me off and to all of you that do it... Fuck you for being that asshole. It definitely put a slight damper on Glen's set for me. On to the rest of the show.

Small Town was a perfect opener for this crowd followed by a really special set list. Education was a cool surprise! Uke songs sounded great as usual. Loved Around The Bend, Won't Back Down, Drifting and Lukin. But the real highlight for me was This Land Is My Land. Simply beautiful. I have always loved this song and was totally shocked when they played it. My other favorite was Loud Uke. It's awesome! Such a cool sound. One I didn't expect to hit me like it did was Long Nights. Very cool atmosphere during that. Other than the attention seeking assholes yelling, this show really blew my mind.

To the dude who wanted to sing Hunger Strike... Sorry you got kicked out but why do think you should get to be a part of that stage of performers? I don't get it. And to the people bitching about the political talk... Don't you know Ed's stance on things by now?!?! Jesus, he's been doing that kinda shit for over 20 years! If you don't like it, don't buy a fucking ticket! You know he's probably...ah fuck it I'm done ranting.

Great show, pumped to see what's in store for tonight!!

(Oh yeah love, love, love the Pump Organ song!! I NEED a recording of that!)

Sorry, didn't read till after I posted. Well said!!!!!

This. St. Louis was very special to me last year, but this show is the best of 4 EV that I've seen. Tonight should be awesome!
