The Swell Season

Just saw the documentary about them, not Once, but the documentary titled The Swell Season. It was quite interesting, and personal and seemed to suggest Glen and Mar grew apart not because they stopped loving each other but rather because of how each reacted to the sudden and unexpected success of Once. Very interesting to see how each dealt with it. Both seemed conflicted about the way to deal with the success they found. Mar was just an 18 year old newcomer, while Glen had been working for 15 years prior with the Frames with little to limited success.
One thing that stuck out for me was, I knew Once was based on Glen's life as a busker prior to The Frames, but I had just thought Marketa was a musician they found to fit the role of the film. And that they met and fell in love on the Once set. it seems like, if I heard Mar right in the documentary, that she had met Glen, as he was busking, when she was only 13, she was 18 when Once was made, and that even then she was attracted to him, but waited years before saying anything because of how much of an age difference there was between them. I had no idea they knew each other prior. She even said she played on some of his demos prior to Once.
Reguardless, Once and Glen and Mar and the Swell Season are facinating things and bands.

Great way to kill a few hours!
I remember when the movie first came out.....Glen and Marketa actually performed after one of the "industry" screenings I attended in Los Angeles.
They also performed after a few public screenings. Who knew that they would blow up so huge at the time!
I am looking forward to seeing them on tour later this year.
