Jim James solo album

Yeah, like Jervin said, if they had kept it at the State, it would have been bad. The change in venue was good and the place was packed up front. Jim was ever the showmen, touching fingers with people up front and dancing around. The small crowd seemed to have no effect on him. Some girl gave him flowers when he came out and he held on to the during most of AEIOU. It was a great time.0

I wonder if he was thinking, "oh fuck, what am I going to do with these flowers? Am I supposed to hold on to them all fucking night??? When can I ditch them without hurting this person's feelings??" like all women think when a guy gives them flowers outside of the home.

CantKeepmedown wrote:I'm not sure actually. They have played Portland several times. They played the State Theater in 2010 and sold it out immediately. There couldn't have been more 150-200 there last night.
It's weird, and I'm not sure how well is album has sold. I have some friends that are pretty big fans, and they hadn't even bought the album, which I found strange. But there was a group of 3-4 of them and none of them had heard the album. But they loved it and had a blast.
200 people? That seems like awful turnout for the show. People are missing out on a great concert.0 -
PJ_Soul wrote:That's weird. Fuck, wish I'd been at a JJ show with only 200 people, but only if it was in a tiny place. A show that has horrible attendance pretty much sucks... It's sort of awkward. I can't believe it happened to him though. RNDM was getting better turn out than that, and their turn out sucked.
I personally really like the album.
Its not that weird. MMJ is big but they arent humongous either. Even Ed doesnt play solo gigs in front of the size crowds that PJ plays. Most people know who MMJ is. Jim James isnt a known name, certainly not a household name. Does Regions of Light sound like MMJ? That could also be another reason.
This is his first solo album, its stylistic different than his main band, and he's in a famous band but individually and singularly wouldnt be noticed in a crowd or at a restauarant by the public.0 -

That's crazy that only 200 people showed up for his show. I saw him a few months ago in Minneapolis and the place was packed. Me and my friend got in early through the fan club and were able to watch the whole show from the rail. It surprises me that MMJ isn't bigger than they are but I guess they don't get played much on mainstream radio. At least that makes it easy to get tickets for their shows.Minneapolis 2011 - Ed Uke / Charlotte 2013 / Phoenix 2013 / San Diego 2013 / LA 1 & 2 2013 / Memphis 2014 / St. Paul 2014 / Milwaukee 2014 / Wrigley 1 & 2 2016 / Temple of the Dog LA Forum 2016 / Wrigley 1 & 2 2018 / St. Paul 1 & 2 2023 / Wrigley 1 & 2 2024 / Atlanta 1 & 2 20250

And he's coming back to Portland again! Like last time, scheduled for the State Theater. Hopefully it'll sell better this time. It's a Monday night so we'll see. Oh well. I'll be there either way.0

I’d go to the Austin show but it’s the same night as Big Sam’s Funky Nation at Antone’s from New Orleans and id rather see them for $15 in a 100 person venue than jim James anyday.
I'm like an opening band for your mom.0 -
