Great show in Dallas last night. Very fun! I love the albumm, but the show was still better than I expected. I thought his band was great and it looked like they were having a lot of fun. I liked how he would leave the stage from time to time to let the band shine on their own. Jim James is really a great performer.

I don't know if he's been starting this late in other cities, but he didn't come on until 10:10 and the show finished at midnight. Had to wake up early for work..still pretty tired LOL

Picked up tickets to see him @ State Theatre in Portland, ME about a week ago. Haven't listened to his solo album yet, but hear good things and really enjoy MMJ live.

If you sign up for the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative thing, you can get a free Jim James download - "A New Life (Tune Yards Remix)".
Also, the Global Citizen thing is actually pretty cool, and you can actually achieve tickets. It's not Airmiles, where you have to collect points for 20 years to take a trip from Vancouver to Calgary.

Saw him last night in Portland. I don't love the solo album, but it sounds great live. Tight band...just a great performance. Prob 2 hr show.

Much better than Joy Formidable, who I saw Tuesday and played 50 minutes and no encore.

He was tremendous last night. I was a bit nervous with the venue change and lack of ticket sales, but Port City was a great fit for him.

Agreed. Don't hit up Port City often, but glad they switched him over there. Pretty solid turnout, but state would have been pretty empty

I thought MMJ played in Portland often. Why the small turnout?

I'm not sure actually. They have played Portland several times. They played the State Theater in 2010 and sold it out immediately. There couldn't have been more 150-200 there last night.

It's weird, and I'm not sure how well is album has sold. I have some friends that are pretty big fans, and they hadn't even bought the album, which I found strange. But there was a group of 3-4 of them and none of them had heard the album. But they loved it and had a blast.

That's weird. Fuck, wish I'd been at a JJ show with only 200 people, but only if it was in a tiny place. A show that has horrible attendance pretty much sucks... It's sort of awkward. I can't believe it happened to him though. RNDM was getting better turn out than that, and their turn out sucked.
I personally really like the album.

Yeah, like Jervin said, if they had kept it at the State, it would have been bad. The change in venue was good and the place was packed up front. Jim was ever the showmen, touching fingers with people up front and dancing around. The small crowd seemed to have no effect on him. Some girl gave him flowers when he came out and he held on to the during most of AEIOU. It was a great time.

 I wonder if he was thinking, "oh fuck, what am I going to do with these flowers? Am I supposed to hold on to them all fucking night??? When can I ditch them without hurting this person's feelings??" like all women think when a guy gives them flowers outside of the home.

200 people? That seems like awful turnout for the show. People are missing out on a great concert.

Its not that weird. MMJ is big but they arent humongous either. Even Ed doesnt play solo gigs in front of the size crowds that PJ plays. Most people know who MMJ is. Jim James isnt a known name, certainly not a household name. Does Regions of Light sound like MMJ? That could also be another reason.

This is his first solo album, its stylistic different than his main band, and he's in a famous band but individually and singularly wouldnt be noticed in a crowd or at a restauarant by the public.

Well no, of course I wouldn't expect crowds like PJ or MMJ, or EV for that matter (obviously). I just would still expect quite a bit more than what RNDM could bring in at a bar. 150 - 200 is a very small turn out for the lead singer of a pretty popular and long-running band.

That's crazy that only 200 people showed up for his show. I saw him a few months ago in Minneapolis and the place was packed. Me and my friend got in early through the fan club and were able to watch the whole show from the rail. It surprises me that MMJ isn't bigger than they are but I guess they don't get played much on mainstream radio. At least that makes it easy to get tickets for their shows.
