On a serious note... Consevatives need to re-group.
The first thing they need to do... dump the Christian Coalition as their base. It is not a slam on Christians... it is seperating themselves with those Pat Robertson/Jerry Falwell-esque fanatics that want to blow up the Temple Dome so Jesus can come back... the ones that want to bring the world back to the way it was when they were 9 years old... the ones that spawn the likes of Michelle Bachmanns, Rick Santorums, Todd Akins, Richard Mourdocks... the lunatic fringe elements lost the Republicans the middle ground.
Come back to core Conservative principles of doing what is best for the country... not doing what is best for the Republican Party. The core belief of responsibility and accountability, reality and sensability... like, if you want to build a big defense on tax payer dollars... you NEED to raise taxpayer dollars.
Right now... to get the nod during the Primaries... you HAVE to say crazy shit... to get crazy people to nominate you. Then, you have to convince us moderates that you aren't really crazy and don't believe that crazy shit you just said. That is WHY Michelle Bachmann.. was a front runner in the Republican primaries!!! And Herman Cain!!! HERMAN CAIN WAS A FRONT-RUNNER!!! That is insanity.
That is what the Republicans need to do... dump the crazy shit birther types and regain their sanity.

I was gonna to totally avoid AMT today but I read this and had to post. I agree with you completely. And I'm a liberal. My husband is a Republican and his family was very active in the Republican party in Nevada until it was taken over by the freakish fringe Jesus nutballs so I've watched how my husband and his family felt their party abandoned them. Core values, just like you said - where did they go?

They've got to get rid of the lunatic fringe.

Actually, when Boehner made his not so veiled shot at Obama at like 9:30, it was clear it was over (there was no reason to comment no raising of taxes if he thought Romney even had a chance).

It will be interesting to see if Obama TRULY tries to work with the House or continues to use Reid to make it his way or no way. The blame game obviously worked, so why would anyone expect him to change for the better of the country? Here's hoping the 2 week scare after the first debate woke him up to the realities of being a GOOD leader for the benefit of the country and not just fall back on his inherrent arrogance and the wagging/pointing of his finger.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

maybe force the religious nuts like akin, bachmann, ryan etc and the tea party to abandon the republican party. why don't they form their own party, call it the jesus party and be done with it and try to gain power that way?

as it is now, i do not see moderates having any place in today's republican party. and that is a sad, sad thing.

to be honest, i know how the missing conservative posters on here feel. i felt it in 2004 and if i were them i would stay away for awhile too. when your side loses that big it is a little disheartening and the last thing you want to do is go back to a place like this to face any razzing or criticism.

let's cut those people some slack because i am sure that they are feeling all kinds of emotions, rejection, anger, frustration, sadness, mabe even depression. i don't like to kick people when they are down and not here to defend themselves. just my thoughts at the moment...

    OK so...

Republicans bet it ALL and LOST it all.

They lost it with their strategy of doing anything and everything they could to work against the president. They did all they could to stop any progress, tank the economy and fan the flames of hate and intolerance. And it came to nothing. It not only came to nothing... they were sent a loud, shreiking message that came off more like Veruca Salt throwing a tantrum.

And now... we enjoy the spoils of that.

This was the last chance Republicans had to espouse the old-school stances of the party... racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, plutocratic, classist and uncaring about the working class.

Look for Mitch McConnell to be politely shown the door and the term "Tea Party" to be removed from the Fox "news" vocabulary.

Look for the Republican Party to leave their mean-spirited social wedge issues behind... Marriage Equality no longer a lighting rod, abortion is also a no-go. Demonizing immigrants and minorities? Before long white Christians will be a minority. And they know that.

Look for John Boehner to drop his pointless and expensive fight for DOMA. Look for Planned Parenthood to not have to worry about staying open.

And Look for the Koch Brothers to retreat back into the Darkness. They wasted hundreds of millions of dollars. Of their own money and the money of their friends. And they have a LOT of explaining to do.

DON'T look for Karl Rove. He's pissed off a LOT of people that don't like to be pissed off. He's wasted a lot of their money. And they're going to be quite upset with him.

Don't look for Sarah Palin. She'll still try to grab your attention, but few will pay attention to her.

And finally... Don't look for Mitt Romney. I think he's under the impression that he can now enter the lucrative speaking engagement market. But conservative knives have already started to come out. Ann Coulter has already started her "I told you so" and Laura Ingraham has already said something like "next time we need a real conservative."

And therefore... don't look for Laura Ingraham much more, either... she's decided to stay on that sinking ship of fools with the Trumps and the Noonans and the Gingrichs. And it's going down with her on it.

    Good.

I don't feel like getting in an argument, but please elaborate. There are instances where they had deals in place, then Obama moved the line back. He has not been willing to move in anyone's direction. Both sides have been wrong. But, he's supposed to be the leader. So, the buck ultimately stops with him.

i have a question about the missing democrat....how can the dems allow the opposition party speaker of the house run unopposed?
just wondering... do they not have a viable candidate to run against?(pathetic!)
what about a sacrificial lamb to run out there?(stupid!)

Sounds like your husband didn't leave the Republican Party... the Republican Party drove him away.
The thing that Conservatives need to understand... President Obama is a moderate. He is not on out the left fringe... he still has a lot of the Patriot Act in place because parts of it DOES help capture people looking to blow shit up... Guantanamo Bay is STILL open for business because there ARE some of those hard core Al Qaeda types there (either pro-Al Qaeda before capture or made Al Qaeda because of capture... either way, dangerous). And it is difficult to vacate a military occupation in an unstable region. That is why moderates vote for him. They don't believe the bullshit from crazies in the birther club... or the morons that don't know the difference between Socialism, Communism and Fascism... or the pissed off old people in the Tea Party who say they hate 'Socialism' while cashing Social Security checks.
President Obama also understands reality... if you want stuff like military expenditures, National Parks, airport security... it costs taxpayer dollars. You have to collect taxes if you want stuff... sort of like the way President Reagan raised taxes during his run.
If the Republican wants to win the Presidency... they need to dump their base and build up their middle, again.
