It's a double-edged sword. Sure, it's stupid to make the call that early before anything happens, but I've burned by them making the call too late, when I'm waiting to leave or have been on the road for 20 minutes or so. That's equally frustrating.
I remember being burned once. I woke up, and there was already 4" of snow on the ground, kept watching the news and nope, my school district was still open. Walk out to the bus stop, there's 6" now, I waited and waited, 2 hours later, the bus shows up (I had a parent that refused to let me stay home). Bus chugs along, slipping and sliding all over the place because of all the hills. It is now 10:30 am and we are only half way to school-I had left the house at 6:15 AM. Finally get to school around noon, and was there for an hour, THEN they decide that since less than 50% of the student body made it in, they should close... :fp:

Ugh. That's awful. My mom was a teacher, so we thankfully found out relatively early in the morning. If I was a teacher in your situation, though, I'd be SUPER PO'ed. That's just ridiculous.
