This album is incredible. Very, very heavy - old school Deftones throughout. Very 80s/90s influenced sound. Mix is great. Early assessment? Probably one of their best albums.

It's really good. Similar to the way my first listen to Gigaton was - there are a lot of layers to it which can make for a dizzying first listen, but it's awesome. Heavy heavy heavy. If Around the Fur, White Pony, and Self-Titled had a baby, it'd be Ohms. 3 or 4 tracks on here that are clearly riffs from 1998 and/or 2000 that they've had tucked away for a while.

This is going to be on repeat for a while. All of my favorite bands have really come through lately. I love the most recent releases from PJ, QOTSA, AIC, Tool and while it has been a few years, RHCP.

The intro to Urantia is straight 80's Megadeth sound. Pretty killer. Everything sounds so good on these songs and I'm only 4 in to the album.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Totally agree - all of our favorite rock bands have been releasing some gnarly stuff lately.

And yeah, this album is sludgey as hell, it’s awesome. There’s really no weak spot in the album, front to back awesome.

Just had my first listen through it all... I love it, they kill it on this album from start to finish.

  • Such a banker of a band. The quality is so consistent and so dependable without an ounce of sounding safe. Even the albums that you don't dig, you can really appreciate the craftsmanship they exhibit.

Genesis, Urantia, This Link is Dead and Radiant City are the standouts for me so far.

Radiant City into Swerve City live would be badass.

I think the only song I'm not crazy about is Error - it's still good but probably the weakest out of all of them, imo. Could change. Great album.

I did another full listen on the way to work this morning and at first I thought Error and Headless were going to sound weak because I didn't remember them well enough, but then I heard them and was like, nope still good. Also, Spell and Pompeji have grown on me. A real highlight in the middle of the album. And Ohms to end it is fantastic. Loving that song more and more.

Every time I listen to This Link is Dead I am waiting for the guitars to drop around the chorus like in When Girls Telephone Boys. The guitar parts are very close to each other, which is a good thing.

This Link is Dead is a straight banger. Straight from the late 90s-early 2000s. Same with Radiant City - those songs back to back are incredible. Very Around the Fur-ish.

  • Finally got to sit and listen to the album on headphones, I almost started cheering when "Ohms" started.  That's a great album closer, and I think it'd be a good show closer as well.  Really digging this album.
  • Such a good album. Deftones never let you down

Consistently put out excellent albums for over two decades
