  • Well, you actually do have to read it carefully to acknowledge a fair and reasonable point regarding the development of new laws to try and govern behaviour; however, I never took the eugenics comments very seriously thinking they were made tongue in cheek. It's not realistic to expect the inception of such a radical concept any time soon in N. America.

I took exception to the exaggerated comparison of these comments to a brutal crime involving a child.

What also had me take exception to the comment was the inference that all those that spoke for more serious punishment were merely doing so because they were emotional at the moment they posted their words. I think it would have been more fair to say, "I understand the mounting frustration for those that are dissatisfied with our current punitive practices." Most of us have put a little more thought into matters such as these before just getting mad and spewing venom after reading a disturbing bit of news.

You are right about another thing... this topic has been well-discussed and I'm okay with the polarity that might exist. I stand by my assertions though and with every new shitty thing I read... I remain steadfast in my beliefs. I don't want the violent crimes, but if they happen... well... whether right or wrong, I know how I want the extreme situations dealt with.

And where did I say anything about more severe punishments for crimes of this sort? I said more laws wouldn't help, I didn't say anything about changing the penalties for the laws that already exist.

Did you read my response to Godfather?

I got the point you made about laws and their ineffectiveness. After re-reading my post, I should have made that more clear, but to be more concise... good point. To some end... I tend to agree with it.

I did mention that it was placed among some other things that had me take exception to your passage. I wasn't as interested in acknowledging your position as I was discussing the the other things I have already alluded to. In summary again... I just didn't like the subtle poke you took at my values with the 'disgusting' comparison and the 'emotional knee-jerk reactions' that tended to make my (and other's) reflections on the subject seem somewhat ill-conceived.

I hope we can leave it at that.

Yeah, I did read it. Aside from the part where you show you understood my point, I gathered that you took exception to an inference on my part that was not actually there. It seems to me that you believed I was inferring that those who thought punishment should be more severe for the laws that already exist were ridiculous for thinking so which wasn't what I was saying at all. I was just trying to point out that more laws (when we already have ones that cover this), eugenics, and clamoring for some sort of overreaching process that would tell others if they are a fit parent or not is ridiculous.

If I am misinterpreting things when you said I was inferring things in regards to the severity of the punishment, I apologize for that.

the mother was probably just really tired or something. she needs a break. womens are tireds these days.
it is her neck tattoo that makes her so exhausted.

The higher the tattoo on the body, the more dangerous the person, such as the prison gang members you see on Lock Up with tats on their scalps.

The lower the tattoo, the more gentle the person, such as an innocent young girl with a butterfly on her ankle.

so far this woman (if we can call her that) has been in jail a few days, right? soon she'll get a toothache or a medical condition requiring medical treatment; maybe her liver or kidney will fail and she'll be in the right place for excellent treatments. maybe she'll need eye care or that darn toothache again will kick in.

grandma anna (my mom) has zero dental insurance and zero eye care; as a matter of fact neither do i and neither do millions of goodhearted tax paying stand-up well behaved citizens of the united states.
