read any israel/palestine thread on here and you will have your answer as to why we have to dictate that jerusalem is the capital of israel. aipac is just one of the reasons.

i saw the boos to the god and israel tenets of the platform and both were met with loud boos. and i agree with the people booing.

    Oh, so do I.

But doesn't mean I don't think the better choice of the two by FAR isn't the president.

    Interesting speech.

Whether or not it is a good speech depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is.

I tend to avoid this forum, grandpa always said politics and religion are tough to speak about as not everyone is informed, factually informed. Makes for a tough debate.
I am not a Democrat. I wasn't an early supporter of Clinton either.
    I am no longer Republican.
    I am INDY :D
I am waiting for someone, anyone, to get me to their side, so to speak.
Last night was most definitely an interesting speech. Was it good? - you bet it was!
Here's why: it was an effortless evisceration of Romney and Republican position (up to this point and thru last wks RNC). Clinton was rebutting lies & ridiculous policy positions and made it look EASY. Who else in politics today could have delivered that speech? Again, not a Clinton fan or supporter. He has his share of flaws for certain. This stat (and he had a lot of them, sure) blew me away: Since 1960, Republicans have controlled the White House 28 years; Democrats 24 years. And in those years, Democratic administrations have created 42 million jobs, and Republican ones 24 million.
I believe Clinton to be just what the Dems needed to make Obama's case for re-election stronger than ever. That was some speech last night!
Should be an interesting election for sure (I still think Romney has a tough time winning)...

There are so many variables in those stats...when were they created during the presidencies, etc that they really mean nothing.

You are correct about the variables in the stats...but they are true:

Kind of nice, especially in this day of age of ripping to shreds what someone says with fact checking etc, that last week there were VOLUMES of fact checks against Ryan/Romney, etc...but today not a peep against what Clinton said...are they coming? Surprised as I was looking forward to a NYT review...

Seriously. Unreal. Absolutely brutal when he got on him for not thanking the soldiers in his acceptance speech.

After having a day to digest, how many people in that audience would have given Clinton the nominee after his speech?

My guess...all of them...that guy is an amazing orator...He is so good he makes people forget all of the scandals surrounding him during his presidency...he makes people feel great about themselves and the future...

Best politician of my time that is for sure.

So, anybody else a little disappointed in Obama's speech? Pretty light on policy. Tell us your plans Mr. President. Kind of feel like he was outshined by the First Lady and #42.

Yeah, I didn't think it was great but I think he was laying the foundation of the clear choice about the direction of the country and that will get developed more in the debates. Definitely outshined but that may not be a bad thing and may have been intentional since Clinton defended his record so well. Maybe they want people coming out of it talking about Clinton. He defended Obama in a way Obama can't.

I liked his line about asking Osama if he was better off 4 years ago...that made me laugh out loud driving home from work. Not sure why, but I hadn't really heard that before

And I feel bad for every single one of the dems on the floor laughing it up with their hero...you know, the guy that abused his power and took advantage of an intern in his office and then lied about it to a grand jury? I could get past it if if wasn't an employee of his.....but it was.

Always some good one liners though. And Obama did give the order that killed Osama, that is a very good thing.

I thought Clinton did a great job defending Obama's first term. What I wanted was Obama to tell us what is going to happen in the 2nd term. I just don't think he did that very well. A lot of vague things like "we're going to fix Social Security, we're going to recruit 100,000 math/science teachers, etc." Well, how are you going to do it???

We can say he was better than Romney, but really that isn't saying much.

I guess a large portion of this country will never get over the Monica thing. I can understand that. I would just think that the actual presidential performance has to overshadow that over time.

That said, it was quite embarrassing for our country at the time, that's for sure. I remember my cousins in Italy asking me about it in 1999.
