So far pretty well. Much higher ratings and Michelle obama's speech was explosive. Even the fox news twerps begrudgingly admitted it was the best first lady speech they'd ever seen.

    And Julien Castro was amazing.

Laura Ingram live tweeted her own pants-shitting. It was pathetic.

The messages were loud and clear. Even Matt Barber was reduced to Name calling as he whined about "fast women and slow speeches." except when Michelle finished, she got 28,000 tweets. Mitt only got 14,000 for his.

Take from that what you will.

Michelle Obama is a natural on that stage. She did great. However, just like Ann Romney's speech, who gives a shit? Seriously, this isn't a popularity contest. It's not about who is the nicer guy. Those speeches frustrate the hell out of me. And it frustrates me more that most of America seems to give a shit about them.

We are suppose to like and trust Obama more because his car had a hole in the door? really? Great, I love a president that drives an unsafe car. Go get a job and buy a nice car asshole.

We are suppose to like Mitt because he's a good father? Really? Every man (that has kids) should be a good father and be involved in people's lives.

    Distractions.

Yeah, and I'm pretty sure he chose to work as a community organiser for less pay. That's why he didn't drive a nice car. What an asshole!

An election IS a popularity contest. And I have a job. A very good one. Phenomenal, in fact.

But I still think there should be a floor below which we will not let the least of us sink below.

If that makes me a socialist... Well, then I'll proudly wear that badge.

What I noticed was that there weren't a lot of stories told to make anyone look bad... Nothing like Paul Ryan's pearl necklace of misleading crap. But a lot of visions about how we can be a great country if we want it enough.

No politics of division... No "we stand for real marriage which means we'll attack yours" or "if you're poor, you just don't work hard enough."

"Being asked to pay your fair share isn't class warfare, it's patriotism" -Cory Booker was one that struck me.

    This got me too..

"When it comes to getting the middle class back to work, Mitt Romney says, "No." When it comes to respecting women's rights, Mitt Romney says, "No." When it comes to letting people marry whomever they love, Mitt Romney says, "No." When it comes to expanding access to good health care, Mitt Romney says, "No." - Julian Castro
  • I'm actually still surprised that people here have bought into this nonsense at the conventions.

I'm still waiting to hear something that matters.

Being asked to pay what someone else says is your "fair share" is class warfare. And it's a good strategy because there are more people taking from gov't than making that much $.

Then tell us... What is a "fair share?"

Why should I pay less in taxes than my gardener? Or my assistant?

Why should I pay less than you?

You should pay the same % on income.

Anyhow, don't get me wrong, I was this pissed off about the RNC as well, but I didn't watch most of it.

The funny part of that line was the delivery... he basically said "Mitt Romney said 'yes', but then said 'no'". Sorta framed it like the John Kerry "voted for it then voted against it" flip flop.

I didn't watch many of the early speeches, but I don't know why the Democrats don't really hon in on Romney's flip flops more. He's a completely different candidate than he was when the Gov of MA.

I've always said that if your own message is strong enough you don't need to waste much time tearing the other side down.

The GNC was a bunch of angry, defiant white people angry that their place at the top of the heap has eroded. They took a lot of pot shots at the president but didn't say much of what they believe. They don't have the guts to say "we are against gay marriage and gay rights" but use a lot of code like "we have a real marriage" and "protecting marriage."

The DNC comes off as a more positive and hopeful message that doesn't require too much hammering the other side. Some... But it wasn't the centerpiece like the RNC was.

I think that is just because the Dem is the incumbent.

Partially. Although I've always found when your message is a positive and inclusive one, you're going to attract more people to your cause.

I don't see how the RNC expected to bring in anyone with their "if you're not a privileged white person, you should have tried harder" message.

Let's run the clock back several years for a moment. All of this is true:

It's 1971. I live in a somewhat run-down neighborhood in the city. I go to work everyday in a factory gluing calendars and folding aprons. When it's running, I take my car to work. If I scrunch down a bit, I can see the road go by through a hole near my left foot where rust has eaten through the body. Why do I do all this? I do it because someday I'll finish school, get a job as a teacher and later on will have my own book business.

I'm sorry, did someone say, "Get a job and buy a nice car asshole"?

You know, the more I think about it the funnier it seems to me that you are asking me to define a term that the president is spouting off about. Maybe you should ask him. But the reality is, "fair share" is going to me very different things to everyone. Which is why, even though it is a dumbass thing to be touting, it is also genius. Because everyone puts it into their own context of what "fair" is and then assumes that Obama is going to do that, so they agree. The reality is he just wants to take in more $ to the government and spend more money.

I love how you wave the Dem flag all over the place yet somehow still think you aren't a homer. It's amazing to me.

I don't give a shit about Romney's bounce, the republican convention, Obama's car, the democratic convention, it's all bullshit. I can't believe people could watch that and have it make a difference in how they are going to vote or how they feel about Obama as president. I actually believe Obama is a very nice guy. But that doesn't effect my vote at all.

I don't know which is worse, taking away social freedoms that all should be able to enjoy or taking away financial freedoms that everyone should be able to enjoy. Ultimately, you end up in the same place.

I suppose you're right- in the long run those stories are not so important. Yet a good speech should have a few good anecdotes. Also, I think you have more useful things to say besides calling someone an asshole. If you don't agree with Obama, does that make him an asshole? Besides, assholes serve a useful purpose. If you really want to insult someone, call them a hemorrhoid.

Ahhh, so my choice in words ruined the message for you?

Michelle was poised and delivered her speech well. I'm just sorry that the content of that speech appears to excite so many people, because it was all fluff. She is an intelligent individual, I'm sure she could speak of more important matters than the car Obama drove. And like I said, I thought the same of the Ann Romney speech that everyone seemed to really like. Although, I watched far more of Michelle's.

People who trash Michelle Obama lose all credibility for anything else they say. If you have bad things to say about her, you are either way too hyper-partisan, or just an idiot. She is smart, classy, and does good things for childhood obesity and military families.

And it goes across political parties. I couldn't stand George Bush, but I was impressed every time I saw Laura Bush speak, and when I read about some of her initiatives with literacy, etc.

The far right talking heads who bash Michelle Obama should be ashamed. If their daughters ended up anything like her, they'd be the proudest parents in the world (and rightly so).
