I lost on that too -- another reason to despise Harbaugh even though I am a 49ers fan.

I disagree with the article's reasoning. I think there was a greater chance of Alex Smith fumbling one of the snaps in the Victory Formation then the Seachickens recovering an onside kick (which they kick from the 20 after Safety, right?) and getting a touchdown....and then recovering another onsite kick and getting a field goal....with 45 seconds and no timeouts left.

Personal opinion on Harbaugh -- he is the league's biggest arbitrary douche. He did it just to be crazy.
If he had said that he risked injury to his players during the onside kick and ensuing plays that he felt would not be a risk if he turned down the penalty I would have found it more believable. He is just a whacko.


At least the team won, have to like how they played in the 2nd half. Seattle is a very good defense.

Agree, but there was clearly a holding call that should have been made on that play which would have resulted in the same thing.

I think that he did say that part of his reason for taking over on downs was to avoid possible injury to his players in the final 45 seconds. It was a very physical game and the Seahawks were frustrated after having been outplayed and shutout in the second half. But I agree, Harbaugh is pretty crazy. Those slow motion close up shots of his face when he's pissed off about something(which is pretty much all the time) are downright scary! He looks demented sometimes, lol
