Fun facts of the day (according to baseball reference):
The Cubs have the second most all time wins of all existing MLB teams (10,354) - more than the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers
(the SF Giants have the most all time wins)
The Cubs all time record is more than 500 games above .500 (all time win percentage of .513)
Sure, we are really bad now (its called rebuilding) but the "loveable losers" are not as bad as people may think
(we just need to figure out that 100+ year World Series drought)

you do realize most of that +500 ball happened back before the 50's

The Cubs have actually had a winning record 5 of the past 10 seasons.
Compare that to a team like the Pirates that haven't finished a season with a winning record since 1992 and things don't look so bad.
pre 1950 52.6%
post 1950 48% and this includes a 43.6% over the last 20 years. :fp:
i'd have to conclude that when you compare to the pirates, post 1950, it does look pretty bad. pirates have been dreadful for 20 years and still have a better win % post 1950. they also have a few WS titles in that time frame.

Nice to see Dempster get shelled. Maybe you should have accepted that trade to ATL to pitch in the easier NL.

Can't really judge a MLB player based on his first 11 at bats in the big leagues. Yes, the strikeouts are concerning but it has been 3 games.
I am sure there are plenty of MLB all-stars who started out worse than Jackson is playing.
Brutal roadtrip for the Cubbies. Couldn't even bring home one win. They are now 0-10 in the state of California this season.
Time for Dusty and the Reds. Will be interesting to see some of the youngsters play in Wrigley this weekend.
Is now..
23 games under .500

Plus, Eddie Vedder is a Cubs fan.
(People around these parts seem to like him)

Going on 104 years. Thats the only number that matters.
ties are excluded from the numbers.
pre 1950 they won 5692 games out of 10287 games or 55.3%.
1950 and after they have 4662 wins in 9912 games or 47.0%
throw out the last 10 years and that win % only drops to 46.6%..the win % over the last 10 years is 49.6%
pre 1950 52.6%

This thread should have been locked.
WTF does that have to do with the fact that this team is 23 games under .500?
But you are right.... things are looking up...
When you go to the ballpark they still put ice in your soft drinks.
And when you order a hot dog, they give you mustard and a bun!!!
So THINGS ARE LOOKING UP!!!!!

Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
For 10 years, on 3 different boards, we talked Cubs, in my thread..
But now it is DELETED...
So do me a favor whoever is going to run this...
YOU DO NOT NEED to mention that EDDIE VEDDER is a CUBS FAN...
We know that...
We get that...
ITS NOT IMPORTANT!!!!
Lets keep this thread ON TOPIC!!!!
The 2012 Chicago Cubs...
The 2012 Chicago Cubs that are 23 games under .500
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
Do ya think Theo is going to make a phone call to Eddie Vedder next Winter, when its time to go after some starting pitching?
Do ya think Eddie and Theo have a BAT-LINE set up?
That Alfred the butler answers when Eddie calls Theo?
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
Still 22 games below .500. :(
I don't care how young and inexperienced this team is. Five errors in one game in unacceptable. The baserunning mistakes may be even worse.
It's going to be a long 2 months on the north side.
that's being optimisitic
Once NFL and college football starts it becomes easier to ignore baseball. The last month of the season will go by quickly.
